Patch download taking forever

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I now just launch the game, and the "Launcher Autoupdate" dialog pop up. And the download is taking forever, is this normal?

Can the Cryptic guy put on a progress bar on the dialog, so atleast we know it is downloading something, but just slowly.:(

Thanks
:(

4 - 5 days??!::mad: By the time it finish downloading, the beta test will be finished.

    I guess that's why there's a life-time subscription for it...

[UPDATE]: My "Launcher Autoupdate" dialog has just disappeared after about 40mins of waiting. And a more fun part has just been discovered! Is another PATCH! This is just great.

Suggestion to the Cryptic guy, don't just update/add servers, you need to increase your bandwidth too!

There bandwidth is fine, chances are it's a problem with your firewall/router settings or your isp. Next time, try going into the launchpad options and selecting a proxy, and also select patch via proxy. See if that helps.

Thanks. I've just tried, and it making it worst. I got "Connecting..." displayed for a long time...

[UPDATE]: THanks for helping, but i'm just tired of trying. Is night time over my side, so, Good Night, and Thanks :)

It seriously sounds like a firewall/isp problem then.

Patch download speed is at 30 KB\s (or even lower) out of 450 KB\s maximum. My router settings and ISP are fine. I always receive maximum speed if the bandwidth allows it. And is seems that Launcher proxy settings doesn't do anything. It'll be faster to download full patched client from any torrent than to patch with the launcher.:(

Having much the same issue, I only just finished downloading the client Tuesday (total time elapsed was 32hrs). I have tried sitting in Barnes and Noble to download there because i saw faster speeds there, but that was still only 160Kb/s. Now I am trying to download the patch it has disconnected several times. Not sure on total size of the patch either. Does anyone know what port settings the dowloader uses so that i can check to be sure its going through my router ok? any other suggestions? Are there any mirror sites where i could independantly download the patch?

I have also problems with slow patch download. I get about 10-20 kB/sec, while my normal bandwidth is about 320 kB/sec. I tried different proxy settings and even a router restart to get a new dynamic IP address, no effect. I'm downloading since 1,5 hours and I'm still not done, while for my friends it took only a few minutes to update.

Maybe a problem with the load balancer?

    downloading for 2.5 hours now...still not more than 10-20 kb/sec :(

An alternate download location would be nice.

In this thread they are talking about several GB patches. Maybe the Launcher does just display the wrong filesize or wrong unit?

aabout 50 % in 3 Hours is a joke. has 180 MB as of now as far as I can tell. If the patch would use torrent technology this would be faster! During this time i normally could load the full client...

hmmm ... i´m sitting here and dreaming of playing sto and wait for the download to finish.

started 1 Hour ago and now i have 11% ... heeelllooo i´m connected with 25Mbit to my isp, whats going on?

ok this is beta, but download bandwith to your server farm had nothing to do with beta test or i´m wrong ?

in 5 Days PrePlaying will start an in 11 Days Public Gaming will start ... there are still a lot of problems to handle ...

its a litte bit frustrating at the moment here ...

19% in 4 hours. May have to leave my machine on overnight. Maybe speed will pick up after 11pm, when my ISP reduces their throttling.

300MB of around 780MB downloaded for me and it's taken 12 hours so far.... I'm on a 20MB connection and everything else is working fine so I really don't know why it's taking so long for this patch :(

Well I have found if your patch gets interrupted, it will pick up where it left off, mine says it needs 640MB of files now, was 750MB odd earlier.

No difference in speed after 11pm, still slow as hell.

Machine will be on all night to patch. Maybe I'll get to play tomorrow night.

Mine are a 100MB (local, and 20MB overseas) line, and for me I'm an overseaer, so it would be 20MB to STO for me. But it still slow as hell... (e.g. ~100kb)

How can you guys get the "TRIBBLE of 750MB" messages? All I got is "STO version xxxxx.xxxxxxx ...

It would be nice if they can use some kind of distribution system (e.g. akamai) or BitTorrent (but they will need to teach/tutor people on how to configure the BT client and router/firewall correctly... :p

 Yea he is right the down load speed is so slow its not even funny. My router and firewall is fine, something is wrong and the patch is way to big. my comp normally downloads lightning fast. Cypric needs to fix this very soon.:(

It's very sensitive to latency, far more so than available bandwidth.

There's a torrent for getting the bulk of the initial data on a fresh install, but bittorrent can't handle the kind of rapid incremental changes that they make.

Bought this game today and started downloading a huge patch that doesn't seem to move. I'm now going to remove my credit card info...it's a shame this game is so user unfriendly.
