My main toon is a soldier, through and through. He takes on the most dangerous missions and often places himself in harm's way for the success of the mission. He flies an Excel battleship with top of the line weapons. He is well trained in diplomacy but much rather shoot the place up.
When war crimes are confirmed, words mean nothing and he will enter the base with high yield explosives and overwhelming firepower, shooting anything that moves and asks questions later. He is not fond of the Kobali and enjoys engaging the Borg, especially with Klingon Honour Guards.
This is a soldier, not an explorer. He doesn't care about science, technology, or the like. If it blows them away, awesome, if not, meh, let his science officer take care of it. To be fair, he does have field medic training.
He belongs in MACO, and when the war is over, he won't be an explorer, commanding an explorer, he'll be training recruits at Starfleet Command in ground deployment, fleet engagements and ship-to-ship combat. He will teach them how to talk, defuse a situation and failing that, how to enforce the peace.
Where does your main toon belong, especially after the war?
D'trel belongs in war. Her reason for existence is bitter revenge, and she believes deeply in defending those who cannot defend themselves and bringing swift justice to those who abuse sentient rights.
After the Iconians are crushed? She will need a new purpose in life, and soon, because her psychology can't support an existence without an overriding driving purpose anymore.
Three...the unit deserves to die. It's an imitation of sentience, the original thinking being almost entirely removed and replaced with a programmed mind. The guy who made the unit was talented, but his design for the unit's brain was still not quite sentience--and that was before it turned out he'd screwed up and the unit was malfunctioning. Like the Omnidroid (from "The Incredibles"), the single best solution is termination.
Well Kay will finally be happy to explore things without having to ask her tactical officer to defend her ship. Lily on the other hand will have to find a new enemy, without someone or something to fight she doesn't know what to do with herself.
Initially at a war crimes trial. In which evidence would be presented that he is a mass murderer and a war profiteer. The death toll would not be fully known, but easily in the millions. Fortunately, my main has several contacts across the galaxy capable of hiding those war profits.
Assuming he can escape that, He would likely face a court marshal next. The charges would likely center around the many, many starships lost, the millions of crew endangered (many died within seconds of entering combat), and of course acting unilaterally in many situations where Starfleet should have been consulted - among other things. The best possible outcome would be a Kirk style demotion down to captain.
After years of proceedings, he would set out to get the old crew back, only to find that all the non-Starfleet crew had left long ago. The rest of the crew gone off to other ships, leaving him to pull a green cadet crew onto the old ship. With massive technological advances, there would be the necessity to upgrade to state of the art before setting out. Given that my main would be persona non grata at Starfleet HQ, he'd turn to hidden war profits to get him there.
Then he'd go off to be a morally ambiguous Starfleet captain; heading out to "the second star on the right" with the intent to blow stuff up. His first best destiny is to be a captain. As long as there's a bridge, my main will be there, pew-pewing with the best of them.
T'Cael will probably continue looking for his family after retirement. Not out of any hope of finding them alive after so long but to achieve closure.
As to the things he has done in service to the Republic: The ends justify the means. If it allows even one Romulan or Reman to breathe in freedom and liberty for one day, no sacrifice or underhanded trick should be left unused. He will have no remorse about any of the millions he has killed or injured in pursuit of this goal. He will not apologize for or attempt to "correct" any of his actions. When others hold him up as an example of a war criminal, he will smile and remind them their ability to publicly accuse him without fear of retribution or arrest is a direct benefit to them of the actions they are horrified by. He will freely admit he does not belong in their world. But he will never pass a chance to set the record straight. Namely, without people like himself who go out every day and fight in defense of those who cannot defend themselves, their world would be very different.
"The gods have two jars. One of Evil and one of Good. From both are men made."
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.
Hmm...not sure which of currently toons is really my "main" one...so I'll just post the character biographies for my main Federation and main Romulan one. I...don't really have a biography for my main Klingon one worked out yet.
Traja
Traja Aelhih never set foot on Romulus. She was born on the Romulan colony world of Sindari, near the edge of the Neutral Zone, in 2377. Sindari was attacked by Nausicaan pirates when she was only two years old, however, and The USS Kumari defied the Neutral Zone treaty and aided Sindari, driving off the Nausicaan pirates and taking the Sindari survivors back to Federation space for medical treatment. Traja was badly injured in the attack, and her mother died. Her father, Nurvan, was a Romulan senator, divorced from Traja's mother but eager to have his daughter returned to him. A diplomatic incident may have occurred, but Shinzon's coup less than a month later killed Nurvan, leaving Traja an orphan.
Traja grew up in the Federation, but became fascinated with her Romulan heritage even as she looked forward to a career in Starfleet. She hoped that one day the situation between the Federation and the Star Empire would be normalized enough to permit her to travel to her homeworld, but the Hobus Supernova in 2387 shattered that dream.
Traja grew increasingly disillusioned with the Federation as it seemed to allow the Romulan Star Empire to shatter and crumble. Although she went to Starfleet Academy in 2395, she found herself ever more frustrated with its rules and regulations regarding interaction with foreign powers and its endless excuses, in her mind, for allowing the Romulans to suffer. Traja dropped out of the Academy in 2398, and managed to journey into former Romulan space, looking to do something - anything - to aid the people she had never truly met before, eventually coming to settle on Virinat.
Then the Tal Shiar and the Elachi attacked. The rest, as they say, is history.
LIKES: Coffee (hard to get since leaving the Federation), Romulan history, fixing problems.
DISLIKES: The Federation, the Tal Shiar, and supernovae that make no sense.
KOBAYASHI MARU: As Traja dropped out of Starfleet Academy before her final year, she has never taken the Kobayashi Maru.
(NB: Despite the above, Traja went Federation-allegiance due to the Klingon alternative being worse, in her eyes)
As to the question...Traja belongs on New Romulus, helping to rebuild, more than anywhere else. She's sort of basically meant to be to Romulans what Worf was to Klingons, an outsider with Space Wikipedia's knowledge of the cultural mores. Fortunately for her the Romulan Republic is itself basically trying to erase all the bad parts of Romulan culture or at least not fall into a trap created by them the way the Star Empire did, so things are working out better for her than they ever did for Worf. Apart from that, Traja belongs in space, protecting the fledgeling republic, and despite her misgivings with the Federation she is perhaps the best Romulan in the Republic to be helping the Republic forge bonds with the Federation, bonds that the nascent nation will need to survive its early years.

Zelyh
Talzelyhirrnn sh'Sihl was born in 2386 somewhere on the passage between Andor and Ferenginar, the shen daughter of an Andorian merchant family aboard the ship Tallara. Things were not always easy for the family, and much of Zelyh's early memories are of her ship having to dodge Nausicaan pirates, Orion slavers, Lethean corsairs, and Ferengi "merchants". More than once the Tallara had to be saved by a Starfleet vessel, and it was from this that Zelyh gained the desire to join Starfleet.
This choice was controversial, to say the least, amongst her family. Andor was at the time, and in fact still is to this day, in the midst of trying to recover from its genetic crisis, and it was expected that Zelyh would go to Andor to find mates and help with the repopulation of her species. Her choice to instead go to Earth and join Starfleet left her estranged from her family - an exceptionally difficult thing to come to terms with for an Andorian, and it reflected in her Academy record, where she was noted to be perhaps a touch more aggressive than Starfleet normally prefers its cadets to be. Of course, as the situation between the Federation and the Klingons continued to deteriorate, Starfleet changed its tune on that regard.
LIKES: Ice cream. Brilliant human invention, that.
DISLIKES: The average temperature of Starfleet vessels.
KOBAYASHI MARU: Zelyh attempted to save the ship, but as soon as the Klingons began decloaking devoted her ship's full focus on attacking and destroying as many enemy vessels as possible. While she kept "calm", her focus was in entirely the wrong area. This was not looked upon favorably by the test observers, but Zelyh's results in other areas were good enough for her to advance - it was hoped that practical training experience would help correct her flaws. Of course, then Vega happened...
Zelyh belongs on a starship. She was born on one, raised on one, and despite favoring a tactical approach to situations she knows them inside and out. The question is whether or not she deserves a captaincy. Zelyh is very much a "shoot first and ask questions later" kinda' shen, and while she does believe in the fundamental ideals of the Federation she is perhaps a touch too willing to tarnish them to get a job done. These questions are one that plague Zelyh herself - without Vega, would she ever have been able to get her first command? Even if she would have been able to, how long would it have taken? How long should it have taken? She knows full well that only the dire needs of the War put her in command of a starship so quickly, and have caused her to rise through the ranks so quickly.
Zelyh has...issues, in other words.
(Oh, the H is not silent in neither Zelyh nor Sihl. Just breathe out while saying the name: zel-ee-hh sh'See-hh-l)
Ael's also a soldier. She goes where she's told and does as she's ordered. Even without a war, she'd simply go with the flow of an assignment unless it majorly conflicted with her morals, and then she'd simply find something else to do with her time...
My main would like nothing more than a multiyear assignment to the fringes of Federation space, finding new worlds and investigating strange interstellar phenomena. He wants to know everything that can be known about the universe.
Sadly, for several years his duty has been to fight in defense of the innocent. He's done it well, receiving accolades and promotions, but it's not where he really wants to be...
Jim Harrigan will take a step back and give Flores command of the Agrippa and most likely take a teaching position at the academy in the fields of combat tactics and military history once the war is over, he'll end up writing and publishing a book of his experiences of combat as well as publishing several historical military history titles
"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavours, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory."
-Lord Commander Solar Macharius
Of my four mains, the three KDF Klingons are exactly where they should be - defending and expanding the Empire. Liberated Borg scientist Klorin would probably find his expertise in temporal mechanics better suited to a backroom job with the Temporal Defence Agency when this is all over, though.
Federation officer M'yarg would have a very uncertain future though. He commands an Intel crew with a very high proportion of Empire defectors precisely because they can be relied on to do the jobs that regular Starfleet crews would baulk at (a sort of foreign legion setup). There are a few options though; Section 31 or Starfleet Intel might find him useful for plausible deniability ops. In an Empire with a renewed tie to the Federation, he might again be welcome. Otherwise it's probably off to run a restaurant somewhere.
I think Jacques would either retire with his hidden stash of dilithium, energy credits, replicators and Latinum or try to become the President of the Federation or at least the Human representative. Old Bar'or would continue to work for the Empire, all the while trying to become a member of the Klingon High Council.
My main was a spec-ops soldier(MACO or something), with interest in technology and science. He was the Tech/engineer in his unit, taking care of turret, heavier weapons, demolition and drones.
Later he applied for Starfleet, wanting to explore the galaxy, pushing the boundry of scientific knowledge and making new discoveries. However the Klingon war came very soon after he applied and he is now on the frontline again against all kinds of enemies. Because of his experince and skills, he was quickly promoted eventually to Captain. Though there was a bug computer though that recognized him as a fleet admiral for a while...
If he can survive to the end and not suicide-run his ship/shuttle/himself into some Iconian superweapon, he will probably explore the galaxy, as he originaly wanted when he joined Starfleet. However it is much more likly that he would be send to some patrol or combat duty considering his skills.... But he would not accept a teaching position in the Starfleet Academy.

Hm... its gonna take a crowbar to pry her rotting corpse out of the Captain's Chair.
Anyways... when she's not fighting, I see her as an explorer. Someone who enjoys seeing the unknown.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

Please remember that none of my characters have done the whole STO backstory as canon. Their backstory is a mix of the official story, the Foundry, and stuff I just flat out made up.
My Russian-raised Devidian, Alyosha Strannik, began his career with Starfleet Intelligence, who used him during the Dominion War for a number of things ranging from couriering secret orders (a Founder could not mimic his phase shift, so if he were replaced in transit the Founder that tried it would get caught), exfiltration, and search and rescue missions. Once he got out of SI, he did what he'd originally joined Starfleet to do, which was to pursue a science career. It took him a long time to be properly recognized for his skills and trusted in command, even though he takes his sustenance artificially and considers it a grave sin to drain sentients.
When he received command, though, he was surprised to be posted to an escort rather than a science ship--an escort carrying some extra science and reconnaissance equipment, yes, but still a ship of war. Thing is though...it really does suit him. Though he does not really acknowledge its source, his Devidian hunting instincts serve him well in combat and make him a deadly calm, collected opponent to his enemies when necessary. His ship's mission could best be described though as, "Seek out new life and new civilizations and boldly go where it's too dangerous for a weaker ship to go." He does draw exploration and charting missions sometimes--but as an example, he's the guy you send when you need to explore a world that's a bit too close to the RSE border for comfort, or to chart the Badlands where there's a risk of being jumped by True Way terrorists. He is a science captain but not, as with some Starfleet science guys (particularly back in the old days) at all reticent about defending himself when truly necessary.
I think he would make the transition to peacetime quite well; there will always be areas for him to explore that won't be perfectly peaceful or predictable, and an explorer who can take care of himself and his people and project strength without recklessness will always be needed.
Tayben Berat...who has already served a long time in the Cardassian Guard before the Dominion War, in the Resistance during the war, and in the CDF postwar, began his Starfleet service as an exchange officer. He was not given much responsibility initially despite the fact that he was actually a senior gul in the Guard (a rank whose responsibilities can range from captain to the lower admiral ranks)...he was more there as a cultural liaison to help the crew of a new ship to the 77th Fleet (the Cardassian Union peacekeeping fleet) get used to dealing with Cardassians, including those who like Berat had careers in the old Union. (Bluntly, the point of his assignment was to help the new crew get used to the fact that not all of the "old Guard" were True Way or even conservative.) When a Borg incursion occurred in the Beta Ursae sector block and killed most of the senior staff, Berat was forced to assert his CDF rank and take command of the ship with the help of the Liberated Borg chief engineer (Joan Redmond) to get them out of the situation. Starfleet rewarded his service and loyalty with a series of rapid promotions in his exchange rank, bringing him ultimately up to Vice Admiral, where his Starfleet responsibilities are now the equivalent of his CDF ones.
Because Berat retains a dual commission in the CDF and Starfleet, he is currently the "archtraitor" by True Way standards--the ultimate symbol of what they hate, and he is by Cardassian standards far left wing in his politics. (By Federation standards he would still be considered right wing.) This means that he has quite a target on his back--to the point where even though there is another gul in the CDF that he loves, the two of them cannot openly declare their love and marry for fear that association with him will place her in danger and any children they might have. Only a few--she, Admiral ch'Harrell, and Legate Sa'kat--know of his love...he hides it very, very well in public.
How Berat's retirement would go, whenever that happens, depends on how thoroughly the True Way and its sympathizers have been uprooted in Cardassian society. And if things go south and the dictatorship ever returns, he may love the Cardassian people and what they can be, but he would choose to settle in the Federation instead and do his damnedest to get his beloved out of there. But his greatest hope would be that peace would come--enough that he would not have to constantly look over his shoulder if he starts a family. He'd ideally like to settle on an outer colony world...after certain things that happened when he was younger, he doesn't want to live on Cardassia, but a colony not too far from the Fed border would be the kind of place he'd want to raise children.
Berat is currently pushing 80 years old, in STO--but the way I reckon Cardassian lifespans (I realize not everyone agrees), he could have anywhere between another 70 to 120 years to live barring accident, illness, or foul play. So he's a middle-aged man with plenty of time still ahead of him in a society that reveres its elders. Though he worries, if a better future is to come for Cardassia, he may still have time to experience it for himself.

Where does your main toon belong, especially after the war?
K'Mec - Strong Diplomatic talent, but not afraid to show her combat skills when needed. Far more feminine and reserved then you would expect for a klingon female. Brought up with real life values of how tough life can be. Qo'noS native until 14 years of age, left the empire and during that time as she helped alot of people out of bad luck situations, she helped find a life outside the empire using her houses finances for these out of luck people before settling in Brisbane, Australia for a while.
Ethic Bok - Expert combat officer, former Starfleet Marine on the front line of a little known swamp world in Klingon space, spent most of his time fighting in a nasty area of that world. For a ferengi he knows combat better then any Ferengi and he applies that sharp mind to his starship and his crew. Ethic doesnt care for Latinum bars one bit, infact he considers the profit angle a waste of time just thinking about it. but being a soldier has earned him promotions as well, hes learned how to command others with a great deal of patience, finesse and respect, however his rather unorthodox style of command leads to more trouble then it solves as hes by the book.
Shenna - Management, style and persistence is a key trait for this orion female, adopted into the Kyrixix dynasty, one of the less known but more legitimate royal families before it was turned into a House when the family moved to Qo'noS. She has won over the old leader Maras who used to lead the House back in her prime days until recently with her outright persistence, her Son Migat was Shenna's main competition for the house leadership until he lost the challenge. Shenna's signiture weapon of choice is a tetryon split beam rifle she has had since she was young, found laying on the ground in between a dark alley way before Orion was abandoned.
Vladimir Alexei Pozhenkhov - Management, serious and commited. Almost completely typical Russian who like his family members on both sides, have all served in starfleet with various years to each of them, combined make up 500 years total, going back 5 generations. "Vlad" currently is the highest ranked member of his entire family history but his main aim is to retire soon, start a family with Suzanna Markanova who serves with him and lead the family estate just outside Moscow. A true patriot to the Federation and his Russian heritage.
T'Sara - A rather strange young Romulan woman, her entire value system is completely different for any Romulan you will meet, first she is fully in line with Klingon values, but being a Romulan doesnt work in her favor so she serves the republic attached to Klingon service. her dress sense is also something of a rather jaw dropping choice of a perverse klingon romulan hybrid style, klingon shoulder guards included which are not offered to Romulan allies any longer. her entire thinking is based on her own honor code, the value something has and what it would take to make it happen.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
Tylha Shohl is an explorer, an engineer and an innovator - she's driven to seek out challenging situations, to find problems and develop solutions.
Right now, the war situation is giving her plenty of problems to face and overcome, but when it's over, she will be glad to return to (what she sees as) the primary mission of Starfleet - to explore, to challenge the unknown.
Where does your main toon belong, especially after the war?
Dunno what I'd do with Eleya, Tyria, or Brokosh, but I can tell you that Morgan's fondest wish is to be able to retire and go back to Virinat to rebuild her vineyard.

Tyr-El Quintaris was a decorated Starfleet security officer. He rose through the ranks, and even got his own command, the assault cruiser Concordia. Then his best friend decided to ally with the Tal Shiar and killed Tyr-El.
But Tyr-El's story didn't end there. He was, after all, a Joined Trill. Third host to the Quintaris symbiont. The fourth host, Melesone, didn't live long. Tyr-El's killer wasn't finished, and fully intended to kill anyone with Tyr-El's memories.
The Symbiosis Commission had a decision to make. With the Federation facing war on multiple fronts, they needed Quintaris. Yet, any new host would be a target for an Iconian puppet. Opportunity presented itself in the form of Tyr-El himself - at least the Tyr-El of the Mirror Universe. Reborn, the mirror Tyr-El avenged the deaths of his previous hosts.
Now he has to deal with two conflicting sets of memories - those of the main universe and the Mirror Universe Tyr-El. When the war ends, he plans to disappear somewhere quiet and figure out who, and what, he really is.

Irina Desdinova's family has had a long history of being defenders and guardians. She joined Starfleet to command a starship to help defend Earth and the Federation.
Seifer belongs on the bridge of his ship, ordering authentic Italian pizza from a solar orbital pizza manufacturing space station. Bread sticks and dipping sauces are a definite "yes", and he would task his crew on ensuring that there are plenty of napkins.
Menchez belongs in the heat of battle, blasting his way through his chosen enemies-- which he literally chose at random using a Klingon social enemy app. All registered Captains choose their opponents by swiping left, and their allies by swiping right. If an agreement can be made through the built-in Klingon messaging platform, an honorable fight to the death follows.
In the shooting range. They are shooty shooters, shooting with shotguns at shooting hotshots.

I'm not going to insult your grammar, per se, but the thought of someone running their own business while not being able to spell or use correctly "didn't", "also", business", "a lot", "you're" "anyone", "due", and "judgmental" is...baffling.
What business, if you don't mind me asking?
Also I'm just not clear as to what you mean by Cryptic "killing" your "alt." I'm relatively new to the MMO thing so I'm not clear on the terms. I'm assuming that by "alt" you mean alternate characters. How did Cryptic kill yours? Did you, like, not log on for two years and so they deleted your account, or something?

Sadly, for several years his duty has been to fight in defense of the innocent. He's done it well, receiving accolades and promotions, but it's not where he really wants to be...
-Lord Commander Solar Macharius
Federation officer M'yarg would have a very uncertain future though. He commands an Intel crew with a very high proportion of Empire defectors precisely because they can be relied on to do the jobs that regular Starfleet crews would baulk at (a sort of foreign legion setup). There are a few options though; Section 31 or Starfleet Intel might find him useful for plausible deniability ops. In an Empire with a renewed tie to the Federation, he might again be welcome. Otherwise it's probably off to run a restaurant somewhere.
Hast thou not felt ashamed of thy words and deeds
Hast thou not lacked vigor
Hast thou exerted all possible efforts
Hast thou not become slothful
Anyways... when she's not fighting, I see her as an explorer. Someone who enjoys seeing the unknown.

Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
Right now, the war situation is giving her plenty of problems to face and overcome, but when it's over, she will be glad to return to (what she sees as) the primary mission of Starfleet - to explore, to challenge the unknown.

Thank you.
Menchez belongs in the heat of battle, blasting his way through his chosen enemies-- which he literally chose at random using a Klingon social enemy app. All registered Captains choose their opponents by swiping left, and their allies by swiping right. If an agreement can be made through the built-in Klingon messaging platform, an honorable fight to the death follows.

btw go ahead and insult my grammar lol I know you want too, prove how judgemental you are.
