Pointless-again!!!

I posted before about the sheer futility of trying to play this game, especially in regard to times of events, and once more I cannot get to even play the thing. What is the point of an event that I cannot take advantage of? Previously many people attributed the problems to my own connection and this just is not the case. I really do hate to outline the games shameful flaws because I am an avid fan of Star Trek and for the most part even this game; but recently its just getting annoying.
As I stated before its a shame and I wish those that can manage to play all the fun possible.....pity I cannot be one of them!!!!

    What exactly is the issue?

Is the problem that the timing is inconvenient, or connection trouble? You've complained about both it would seem...

If connection trouble, try setting the US/EU proxy in the Launcher settings, this can often help...

Conversely, if you have the proxy setup, turn it off - ironically I've found my connection is better than it ever was recently, without the proxy.

Don't feel bad. I tried to start up playing again and am getting consistent CTD/game client not responding errors almost every time I tried to go from ground to space or vice versa. If I start again after the CTD, whatever char I was on is in the zone I was trying to get to.

So much for attempting the Delta recruit thing.

Generally I'm finding that it's a combination between Cryptic and my own proxy. STO isn't exactly the most stable game out there anymore for some reason... a lot of the can't connect to server issues can be laid at their feet.

But not all of them... and certainly not enough to make it unplayable. What MAY be happening is your IP is getting a lack of a "ping" from Cryptic when it goes into it's unstable mode... and is closing it out when if it had waited a bit longer it would have fixed itself.

It's probably a combination of bother though.

So is it just this game that I need to do the proxy thingy for? My other online games are fine. So is there a specific issue this game has? I'm something of a layman you see. So I need to amend the proxy for this game because this game does not work right?

It was something to do with being in Australia, or at least my region of Australia... Myself and a few friends who have played have all had shocking latency issues before setting up the proxy server... Once the proxy was setup, the game was more than stable and latency and rubberbanding were reduced to a minimum...

However, I recently turned it off to try and trouble shoot server issues and it's been more stable, with lower latency and even less rubberbanding than I have ever experienced...

Something's obviously changed, just no idea what exactly...

Depends on who you ask... In my case, it had alot to do with my location...

Cryptic's (the company who run STO) ISP has been causing some slow downs of traffic, where as some people will just tell you that Cryptic's servers are TRIBBLE - without having anything to prove the accusations of course...

Give the proxy a try - if it works, great... If not, you may need to consider other options...

Sorry about your luck. I'm on the east coast close to Raleigh NC and haven't had any problems except when I lived with some roomies and we had a wifi for the apartment. Even then, it wasn't that bad.

Because it's not the servers or else there would be thousands (including dev responses) of posts about it.

We've gone over this probably 50 times in the past few months that while no, it may not be your PC, there most likely is something along the connection from it to the cryptic servers which is why, like always, if you have problems like this we have a thread with tests to run and show where the problem lies.

This is a 'somewhat' attempt to try and fix the issues with noneresponsive servers. It doesn't help all the time and no guarantie it will Work at all.

But you can try and use a VPN with limitless bandwidth and connect through a U.S. server on the westcoast. It helps my friend next door that experience these issues from time to time, where he's unable to connect at all.

In most cases it will bypass the worst of the Cogentco stations and give a more stable connection.

It's important to do a little research on the VPN. Most do not have limitless bandwidth and others put a cap on speed as well. Those that doesn't usually cost a few $$, but they also have a Money back policy if you're not happy.
