Wow, this is getting better than I thought it would! There's nothing more entertaining than watching an adult project his own decisions onto the world around him. It's not that he's choosing to buy ships over and over again; it's that a company is MAKING him do it!

    *nom nom nom...*

Hey, deaftravis05, pass me some of that salsa and chips, wouldja? My popcorn's almost done and I need something for when the OP starts breaking down and crying hysterically. :D

Sure, it's my own blend, sour cream, cream cheese and dill seasoning. Have at it for crackers. *brings out a tray of assorted crackers.*

    It's optional.. 100% completely optional.

For people who don't have a lot of toons created -- it's fun,.

Not every expansion will be tailor made to suit each person.

And you don't need a tier 6 ship to play. I fly around in my tier 5 mirror universe ship I bought on the exchange. It does fine --- and I'm not buying a Tier 6. Why. Because it's optional. The game is designed so you can play in just about any ship.

Unlike some games, where you can't play or even be competitive unless you spend real world money. STO doesn't do that.

    Count your blessings.

I'm not sure about fun. This delta recruit is my second character ever, not including the Roms I deleted at level 1. There just isn't any replay value in this game. The big killer for me is the really bad game mechanics. Too clumsy, slow to respond, no imagination in it's design (hence the dps race and tac being the only real class to play).

I changed from tac to sci and I'm not seeing the value in the replay. We have to grind the rep system again? Not to mention all the ships we bought are not account bound? I guess I'm supposed to buy them again.

my opinion and that of damn near everyone

It's a kind of myopia, isn't it, to extrapolate from your surroundings to everybody else or at least "most", and not see or want to see those guys and girls who still enjoy this. Again: does this mean all is shiny? Nope. Does it invalidate your opinion? Nope. But your condescending manner towards anybody who dares to differ doesn't do the trick if you actually want something else out of this than being a jerk just for the heck of it.

Ships from the Zen Store are account, not character, so you can claim them - you use the pay interface but do not pay anything. Ships from lockboxes/exchange are character bound, so they are only for your one toon. Those from events are character as well, but you will get a hefty discount on them next time the event comes around (usually just 40 whatevers, a single run, instead of 1000. Whether you do want the same ships for a Sci as for a Tac is another question.

Rep system is a chore, admitted, and the sponsoring does help only so much. But again during all kinds of events you will get rep marks almost for free, so it's not that bad if you are patient.

The replay value of the story is minimal, admitted, and some of the missions are really a pain in the backside. The most extra value you can get from another toon is a different setup with different ships, which unfortunately works only in a very limited way during the first tiers.

I enjoy flying around in my nice ships and go pew pew pew. I also like the extra purple reward. I like the purple, even though most are useless, I just feel special having so many purple stuff.

I know how you feel but I have to say this, don't ever, EVER, buy a life time subscription because it's like paying to watch a movie before you accually watch it, which to me is just morronic. But it does explain why so many life time subs defend this cluster **** of a game because they don't wan't to admit that they were stupid enough to get ripped off. Atari started off with could have been a great game and turned into an EA slog fest that simply isn't fun or interesting anymore. Thankfully I whent FTP because I have more scense then money so I stayed grounded and what hurt the most is instead of feeling that I wanted to buy somthing, I felt forced to buy something which killed me right there. I love the community in this game but sadly like an old ship, i think her days are numbered.

Say what you will about the game, this game is going to end in time, but to say that the game's days a"are numbered" is a bit of a stretch. You can spout all the "statistics" from Steam and other places all you want, but there is no official evidence that the game is ending any time soon. Oh, by the way, I bought my Lifetime Subscription in Aug of 2013, so I have played the game and I still enjoy it. People are allowed to make their own decisions about this game, so you can take that for what it is.

    Haha...

Yes, most people pay for the DVD or cinema ticket AFTER they watch the film? You might want to rethink your metaphor.

This might throw you for a loop here, OP, but not everybody sits down at the game for exactly the same reasons you do. They may enjoy it on a completely different level for completely different reasons and have a completely different set of expectations than you do. They are not wrong for it. They just have different tastes. Yours are not elite, discriminatory, or somehow enlightened. They're just yours.

You hate the game? Who cares? Plenty of people don't. Do you think the game's days are numbered? Do you have a business degree? Do you have actual inside information on the company's stats and figures? Nope. You have -no- idea how the game is doing -at all-. You're just judging out of bitterness and nastiness, not our of some rational place. From what I'm seeing, the game is still booming. I admit I didn't like Delta Rising as much as I did Legacy of Romulus, but that's perfectly fine. I haven't liked every expansion for SW:TOR or WoW, either. The rest of the game still suits me fine.

You don't like the Delta Recruit event? So what? Did they write it JUST for you, specifically for you? No MMO is going to meet all your tastes all the time flawlessly and without question. I finally got some friends to try the game via the Delta Recruit event and they're loving it. They're masochistic bottom feeders because they have enthusiasm for a game that you don't enjoy anymore? Wrong.

Really, enough tantrum throwing. Every MMO forum for every MMO game everywhere on the net has some grip of players screaming that the Devs are evil, baby stealing, conniving, corrupt evil doers howling with wicked laughter as they tear the money out of your wallet, and they're all wrong. These companies know how to put petulant fits like this in context. Did it ever occur to you that you might not get what you want specifically because an abusive drama queen about it? I won't speak for any given company or their community reps but I sure as all get out wouldn't rush to see -your- will done.

Lighten up. It's a game. Wait it out until the next expansion comes, or don't. Carry on like a ranting, raving lunatic, and what does that matter? It's just white noise in another MMO forum. It's not remarkable or insightful at all. if you don't like the game, leave with some dignity intact.

I'm enjoying Delta Recruitment, in spite of some goof trying to convince me otherwise.

In fact it's the reason I'll actually be playing through the KDF storyline for the first time, and I'll throw $50 at the game even though I don't need anything. Just to "vote with my wallet" and spite the doofus insulting a Community Manager for referencing leekspin.

Heck, she's actually changed her picture to a tribble shield and epohh flail as a result of the community joking with her. She's awesome.

The system is pretty criminal. The devs even threw a pissy fit when we complained about how our old characters were getting screwed. Turns out the rewards our old characters get are drastically reduced over the delta recruits. It's kind of nice knowing that they feel like they have to resort to emotional manipulation.
