game was running fine until I logged on this afternoon and at the black loading screen and after progress gets 1/4,it seems to stop. I waited Around five minutes, but nothing.after rebooting,I tried again, same thing.I'm pretty sure it's not my pc.
My game client freezes on the Legacy of Romulus screen, right after the cryptic screen, but right before the screen with the planet in the background. I don't even get an error message stating if the connection was bad or anything.

I am using a Dell laptop with Windows 8 and my WIFI connection is showing a continuous 1.2 Mbps.

I've been having this problem as well for the past month at least. The only way I could every get it to load would be to launch in safe mode but now even that isn't working. I've force verified and uninstalled and reinstalled. No good. It freezes on the LoR screen every time.
Edit: I've got the same problem when I try to play Neverwinter as well. It gets past the Cryptic loading screen but freezes on the Neverwinter screen.
If at first you don't succeed, do it again but better.
I was able to get logged in today. I left the game running on the laptop while I showered and had breakfast. About 30 minutes later, it was on the character selection screen. I don't know what the problem is, but waiting 30 minutes for the game to clear itself is completely unacceptable.
I may have found a solution, it's worked for me.
On the launcher go to options and de-select "On-Demand Patching." This will cause the launcher to patch all the content before the game launches instead of when it's needed. This will take up a lot of space and time. When I did this is needed to download 12GB of data.
It will still take a long time to load on the LoR page for the first 2 or 3 times but after that it should work, at least it did for me.
Good luck, I hope this helps, and Trek on.

I always turn off on demand patching and the game hangs on the loading screen after I choose my character. I was able to get into the foundry editor but it hangs and crashes when I try to enter preview mode.
A TIME TO SEARCH: ENTER MY FOUNDRY MISSION at the RISA SYSTEM Parallels: my second mission for Fed aligned Romulans.
Jesus christ, first time ive fired STO up in a week and it took me over 5 minutes to get from clicking launcher to the game and omg I cant do anything.
What the hell is going on ?
Took over a minute to load character in the character select, another minute after clicking enter for loading screen to come up and ingame chat is offline.

Nope, im done for today. After 2 minutes sitting in mission after combat ended and still being stuck in Red Alert im not going to try and push through this TRIBBLE.
ive checked my network speeds and and they are totally fine so why is the game lagging so much? its been a few months since I've played and this is why I keep stopping. Ive had the game from day one and there have only been a few occasions when its worked perfectly for me. any idea whats happening this time?
i have tried about 15 times now to go back on and its still not working all i get is the crappy cryptic loading page then it just says loading ....
i wish they would sort this out
I, and many others, have been having issues with in-game latency for months now, mostly in STFs and when initially logging in; the latency makes the STFs unplayable.
I've also been having having significant lag/delays with the launcher and character screens loading up. When first loading the launcher after the Delta Recruit patch it took four attempts and over ten minutes before the "Engage/Patch" button even became visible.
And, of course, I'm getting the occasional disconnect, usually at the character select screen and during STFs when the latency is extremely high.
I've written several forum posts and sent in dozens of support tickets but received no feedback from Cryptic, and only a marginal improvement in gameplay (one of my three main toons no longer suffers from latency in STFs, but the other two still do...could someone explain to me how that is even possible???....I've tested this on multiple occasions with the same results).
Last week I ran into a new irritating issue, where now my game always seems to want to start in Windowed mode instead of Fullscreen.
Now, with the new release of this Delta Recruit patch, I am having a small (manageable) amount of lag in normal space (in this case, Sol system). Additionally, when I try to join an STF (in this case Crystalline Catastrophe Advanced), my ship warps out of the system, then reappears, and then I receive the error message "Couldn't get map names from map manager." (tried this twice in fact, same result both times)
With every subsequent patch, for me and many others, this game becomes gradually more and more unplayable. This shows me that Cryptic has no idea how to keep a game stable while releasing new content, and that they are grasping for straws by releasing content as quickly as possible in the hope that they'll attract new players more quickly than they lose them. Of course, the more quickly the content is released the more negative an impact it'll have on server performance, which will result in the loss of players at an even greater rate than before....so you have to release content even more quickly than before to compensate....you see where I'm going with this, it's a snowball effect. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that this is an unsustainable business strategy. To be honest I feel really bad for Stephen Ricossa - he seems like a nice guy who genuinely loves Star Trek, but unfortunately this game is going to die under his watch unless he can completely change the direction and mindset of the development team. I'll probably stick around until the summer event, but if I don't see any real improvement by that time then I'll likely move to one of the SWG emulators. I really don't have the time to cope with this laggy game anymore.
