Excessive & Persistent Lag & Connection Stability Issues

snipey47asnipey47a Member Posts: 485 Media Corps
Hi,

As some of my videos have been used in the General section post entitled "Please fix the game" I thought I should place an official post in this area of the forum which follows Cryptic's reporting instructions but also my computer specifications.

Videos in question:

http://youtu.be/fHDuaGov1-k (ISA)

http://youtu.be/1R1SBlq0tA8 (Fleet Defence)

Key Computer Specifications:

Intel i7 5820k
16GB DDR4 2600 RAM
ASUS Strix GTX 970 GPU
ASUS Extreme ROG Motherboard
SSD Hard Drives
DLink DSL 2740b Modem Router connected to computer via Ethernet

Tracnet & Ping Path Results

https://www.dropbox.com/s/r89b8vwgc3ldptw/tracert%20pingpath%20snipey47a.txt?dl=0

Nettest

Failed to get connection on 3 attempts over a 2 minute period.

ISP Details

iiNet Australia
Naked DSL Connection

Ipconfig

Performed as instructed with no improvement to condition.

It has been this way since UI upgraded with installed on holodeck and it appears to be getting worse.

Regards,

Snipey47a

We may be dealing with two different issues here:
    Disconnects

    Instance game lag/rubber banding.

So far, those who have been mass-disconnecting that I was able to talk to are being routed through:
38.111.40.114 from Boston. Cogent is the ISP, and that IP is identified as being associated with PWE.

For the Instance game lag/rubber banding, it would be interesting to know how the instance servers are configured. I could very well be wrong, but I'm guessing for this event that some threads are being dedicated to a specific bank/server. Combine multiple threads each running some bad code and containing them to their own pool, and you're going to have one messy pool when they all start churning....

I knew using Kinetics would be playing the game on hard mode, but what I didn't realize was how bad the deck is stacked against Kinetics.

Yeah did a pre/post DNS flush to see if that would help, but there's a holdup and a big jump as soon as I hit the Cogent Servers, and the final Handoff from cogent to Cryptic is where my "Lag" is origionating at.

It has been a number of days since I posted this and the silence from Cryptic is starting to grind my gears... I will open a ticket and add it to this post but I am already preparing myself to leave Star Trek Online until this issue is resolved. All it would take is a response saying that the issue is A and they are working towards B with an expected solution deployed by C. But all I hear is silence.....

There is something going on with Comcast and Verizon. It's affecting other MMO games I play. In the other MMO I play people have successfully used the WTFast program to fix the strange lag.

Due to a lack of response I have submitted a ticket to formalize the bug report in their ticketing system.

    Anyone else noticing 'xboxpatchserver.crypticstudios.com'?

Aren't they currently porting Neverwinter to Xbox?

Probably has nothing to do with anything (I'm not an IT type). I am sick of the lag and rubber banding though!

It has been this way since UI upgraded with installed on holodeck and it appears to be getting worse.

I think it all really started here, back in April 2014, but then better then worst and so on. Back then using a proxy seemed to help, but not so much any more.

This happened to me in CCA: Minute long SNR, excessive rubberbanding, extreme lag. I activate my engine after zoning in, but I do not move, the dialog does not close when I press X or "Done", other players move their ships away in a slideshow. After two minutes I start to move, all the things I did after zoning in happen over a short period ("skipping forward"), but I still have no control. After a while (the entity had not yet fired a single pulse) I get booted from the server. I reconnnect back to Drozana and find the reward window with 30 seconds time left on it.

The other day the same happened in CGA, as well as ISA.

A stunning experience. I'll have to find another activity to do after 9pm.

The only reasons why I play STO anymore are for the 1) story content and 2) events. At least with CCA/CCE I can sort of BS my way through the STF by estimating where my ship will be in two minutes and trying to park myself right next to the entity while spamming all my macroed abilities/heals (in fact oddly enough, one time I actually came in first place...no idea how that happened). It takes a LOT of practice, and I still TRIBBLE up sometimes.

With the upcoming mirror invasion event, however, it's a different story because you have to accurately move around the map to close the rifts...something that is absolutely impossible to do with this lag. If this lag issue isn't fixed by that time, then I'll probably delete my account. The only reason I can think of why Cryptic would refuse to help us (or even acknowledge the problem) after all this time is that they see the cost of losing us as customers to be outweighed by the cost of fixing this problem (and yes, it's a Cryptic issue, not an internet provider issue....all this lag started, at least for me, with the release of the 5th anniversary event). In pretty much every company in the world the bottom line and stock price are all that matter, and since the population in STO who are having this problem is relatively small, Cryptic probably sees us more as a liability than an asset.

Back when I used to play Star Wars Galaxies, I had something identical to this sort of 2-minute+ lag/rubberbanding on the planet Mustafar when the Trials of Obi-wan expansion was first released, along with occasional minor rubberband lag everywhere else in the game. I remember I'd group up with my guild in our 8-person vehicle as we drive across the Mustafar landscape to complete exploration missions; the thing is, I didn't see the vehicle begin to move until several minutes after the driver took off. One time the driver messed up and ran into a nest of Tulrus (a carnivorous animal); I saw everyone in GroupChat getting angry at his bad driving and how he got us all killed, but on my screen we were still driving along normally....and then five minutes later I saw the vehicle run into the Tulrus nest as we all got slaughtered. Sony Online Entertainment actually was able to fix the Mustafar lag pretty quickly, but the periodic lag everywhere else (especially in densely populated PVP arenas) never went away entirely. A lot of people call SOE a terrible online gaming company for driving SWG into the ground with the NGE, but at least they listened to their playerbase and tried to fix the technical issues with their game.
