I live in reno nv, joked to my wife (neverwinter player) that we should move there so I can get a job as a community dude. I don't have the tech expertise to do anything else
I think I spent £10 on Zen a couple of years ago, and I waited until the sale before grabbing the lifetime membership. Compared to you I don't feel nearly so silly in spending as much as I have- now I'll get back to converting dilithium
Sorry, but you spent that money of your own free will. You got what you paid for. You are not entitled to anything else.
We are not required to spend one single solitary penny on this game. If we do, it is because we WANT to.
I completely agree with your statement. I have spent money on this game, but I traded it for digital goods, there was never an agreement for my opinions, thoughts, will, likes, dislikes to be considered on further development in this game.
I know everyone has complaints, I know I have complaints, but you have to deal with them in some matter to find a personal resolution. I know I have personally become numb to the number of complaints on the forums, to me it is white noise. Keep posting though, something just might get through one day.
Two lifetime subscriptions and a couple of zen purchases. So I'm entitled to even more. I demand undead Harry Kim wear an evil-Spock goatee! If doesn't then the game is broken! And everyone will quit playing!
i concur
also, i just spent some more moneys on zen, so i demand empress sela have more shoulder padding.... more, dammit
While I appreciate your support of Star Trek Online over the years, the amount you've spent has zero to do with the amount of influence you have over the game.
A free player, a player who has bought a few keys, and someone who's dropped thousands of dollars are all on equal footing here.
Hell, come work for us, we'll pay YOU, AND you'll get more say in how the game is run.
As for your complaint, can you be more specific about what it is you dislike about the Galaxy Class?
Re: Star Trek Voyager Online, we use things from all of the shows. I started on STO right before we released the 2800, and there were a lot of complaints at the time that the Devs only cared about DS9 and were ignoring the rest of the series. We're focused on the Delta Quadrant right now, because it is a part of the galaxy we hadn't been to before. That doesn't mean we're only ever going to do Voyager related stuff. At some point we'll shift focus back from the DQ to other series, at which point we'll get complaints that THAT is the only series we care about. C'est la vie.
. . . oh, and $0.
Edit:
I will say that in my opinion, if you're enjoying something, money spent on it isn't a waste. All hobbies are expensive if you really get into them. I do woodworking, I collect LEGOs and other things, I play games, and I wouldn't want to tally up how much I've spent on any one of those categories. But, I get enjoyment from each of them. The money spent has resulted in that enjoyment, and as long as I'm not overdoing it, or causing myself to go into debt because of it, I'm ok with it. $5k may seem excessive to some of you, and I get that, but so long as the OP was enjoying what he was getting back for that money, I don't see the problem.
Edit 2:
On a separate note, I often hear people talking about how much they've "invested" into the game. I'm confused by this. The money you've put into the game (since F2P), is for specific products within the game. i.e. you purchase a ship, or character slots, or a costume, or a consumable. In each case, the money you put in has given you something to use within the game. I fail to see the "investment" people view this as? If I go to the grocery store, and buy some broccoli, and then eat it, I have not invested into the store, despite the store getting my money. There was a transaction, and I received what I paid for. Even if the broccoli didn't taste very good, that doesn't mean the store owes me anything further.
What am I missing here?
I really enjoyed the game when we had the weekly episodes, I really enjoy it that there are actors from the series reprising their roles.
I just feel that Trek, at its core, has been lost on the aspects of the game in its current state.
Id love to work for Cryptic, however, the nature of my wifes career keeps us on the move, and it wouldnt be practical, I would really like to in some aspect.
Isnt there a CBS employee working with Cryptic to oversee authenticity
Isnt there a CBS employee working with Cryptic to oversee authenticity
Yes, and they have to greenlight everything added to the game. CBS Studios has a good working relationship with Cryptic Studios, and judging by the threats of writing CBS Studios to change X or Y in Star Trek Online I've seen over the years, I'm pretty sure they really don't care what our opinions are. Again, provided those people actually did make good on their threats to write strongly-worded letters to CBS Studios, and weren't just making noise for the sake of making noise.
5 thousand? Haha, they have even LESS reason to listen to you. You've given them a ton of money, now it's the next person's turn. I see no reason why they SHOULD care, to be honest. While I do wish Cryptic would do a lot more cool things with the game, and with Star Trek in general, probably as much as you do, this doesn't entitle you to anything any more than the 20 bucks I spent buying my D'Kyr eight months ago (Only money spent on STO so far) does me. If you honestly thought that's the way things work, then... I pity you.
in a business.. a successful business... would you completely INSULT ANY player that pays money into your business..
whether we are buying actual goods or fantasy goods... Would you resoundingly say, in an implied sense, that we are being stupid for doing it?
The game has >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>NEVER<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< BEEN FREE TO PLAY.
you pay time, effort, emotions, and REAL LIFE MONEY into something you enjoy doing as a hobby...
Taco Fangs, if I was your superior, you'd be banned from posting in the forums...
Now instead of insulting us, EARN THE REAL MONEY YOU GET PAID, and your employer wants you to try to earn them more profit, and HOW ABOUT FIXING THE UI AND THE BOFFs DISAPPEARING FROM THE TRAY???
If you do that, I will let you have one full day to insult us with your complete DUMBASSERY.. I Cannot believe you are not going to get reprimanded by your senior staff...
to start the game, their own investment money. You do know it isn't free to create a game.
next , the money you pay is for services.
Did you get something when you paid that money?
IF the answer is yes, then the business deal finishes there.
Do you buy a car and then go to the company and say, I paid this money for a car , I demand input in future cars?
to the OP,
I also spend money on the game, I don't demand input.
This game I have only just started playing, so I haven't spent much on it.
IN CO I have spent $4950 on my main acct not including subs for a couple of years then LTS about 2 years ago
Plus a second acct has $2220 not including subs for 2 1/2 years.
which beats the OP easily. The winner is however,kozar2
Ah ya, OP I'm sorry to tell you that you've been misinformed. The "Your Opinion Matters Club" does not start at $5234.99 as you seem to think but at $14,636.63.
I am paying for access to the game, items in the game. I know that this gives me no say in how the game is run because I am not a shareholder (person who pays money into the company by shares but doesn't get any goods/services from the company and who takes their chances on getting any money back) or manager of the company.
Anyone who thinks paying for goods/services from a company means that they should have a say in how the company is run , needs to go do a business course or three.
CIDJACK, the article is brilliant
I didnt include the amount I have paid for 2 accts and a third I bought for a friend. Also, I didnt make the second acct a LT one until a year later, and that was in the days before F2P.
I also haven't included LTS I paid for a friend or prepaid cards I have bought for them.
But congratulations, your lack of knowledge of the meaning of investing in business has made a really great argument thread.
and someone has just lost a bet about you ever responding.

You invest stuff in your hobby because your hobby brings you fun and joy. That is your return of investment and nothing else.
And Taco did not insult anybody in his post. If you think otherwise, i would recommend that you invest some money in a reading comprehension class.

Totally agreed! I probably spent more RL money than the OP on this game, but don't feel particularly entitled to a greater say in anything (especially, as you, of all people, well know the forum has no say in anything whatsoever to begin with *g*).
On a separate note, I often hear people talking about how much they've "invested" into the game. I'm confused by this. I would say, for me it's a personal investment (which is tied to the financial committment to the game, of course). Invested in the sense that I put so much time, energy, and money into the game, that I'd be reluctant to just walk away haphazardly. But no, my 'investment' does not come with a sense of entitlement.

^^ Yours was, by itself, one of the more insulting posts I've seen in a while. I don't generally white knight Cryptic, but Tacofang's reply was respectful, calm, logical, and to the point. Your reply, however, was utterly shameless. Tacofangs is one of the very few Devs who is actually willing to really address some issues. He deserves a lot better! And you, Sir, deserve a stern warning. Fortunately for you, that's not my department.
How much I have spent on the game is none of anyone's business. I spend my stipend on things I want, be it a ship, character slot, etc. I also don't pretend that I have a say in what Cryptic does, and I never will pretend to think that. Take that as you will, it doesn't matter to me what you think of my opinion.
While I appreciate your support of Star Trek Online over the years, the amount you've spent has zero to do with the amount of influence you have over the game.

"Come work for us" I have no degree but my high school diploma, but I have so many ideas for ship designs, but no artistic talent to get it out of my head and out in the world.
Dreadnought class. Two times the size, three times the speed. Advanced weaponry. Modified for a minimal crew. Unlike most Federation vessels, it's built solely for combat.
Work hard, find a good degree or certificate program that you can do nights/weekends/online/fit in with work schedule, apply yourself, graduate, go work on Star Trek.
Wow some people here act like Crypic should pay them to play.
I think you're missing the point as was Tacofangs and keep in mind I'm not in agreement with the OP.
We can buy services, or broccoli, from anywhere. Where I choose to shop, or play, is something a store owner or game developer, a good one, will spend considerable amount of time and money to funnel my choice into buying *their* product from *their* store. It's why so much is invested into customer services.
PWE seems to be becoming more like an overpriced bodego, caring not at all about customer service and relying on people not caring about said services and whether Cryptic likes that or not, that is influencing the development of STO. I have to agree that if I were running a business, the people who are buying my product would carry more weight than those who just come in to use the free restroom.
After reading through all of this, I have come to a singular conclusion. Tacofangs doesn't speak for Cryptic. From his post, I can conclude that PWE has absolutely no concern at all for any sort of customer service or concepts of customer loyalty. I'm not even criticizing that. They are free to take that path and he is free to comment about how shopping at a particular store to *buy* the broccoli has no merits. I can only conclude by inference that he's saying PWE doesn't care if any of us buy their product from them and that we are free to spend our money elsewhere. Maybe from a game company that actually holds its paying customers in some regard.
So PWE can continue to hold the free restroom users on equal footing as people who buy their services. All I can do is discontinue buying said services from such a company.
My sincerest thanks to Tacofangs. You have settled my mind in making any further purchases in STO. Some games coming down the pipe have much fresher broccoli anyways.
You want to do so via in-game purchases? Buy stuff you like, at times you're happy with their decision-making choices. Don't buy stuff you don't like at times you're unhappy with their decision-making choices.
Simple as that.
problem is: you cannot buy server quality tokens in store.
what i want to say by this.
f2p lives from the decoupling of quality and "shiny things".
im unhappy with overal quality - so i basically have to stop buying AT ALL, to make a difference - this difference i and others could make, would lead into the games shutdown.
thats the basic problem in f2p gamign concepts.
overall qulity decrease, because money is only re-invested in things that directly have a sell-input. (eg storeitems)
the sell-environment gets thrown away in this process.
thats the dilemma we are all in.
not to mention the devs seem to unskilled to programm even a tetris game ...

there is missing detail, windows and quite frankly, over all shape is wrong.

Fact is supporting the game financially is a good thing, it's a free to play game.
Because it's free play game they are not getting monthly income from the players.
