The current design philosophy seems to be one of not wanting players to spend much time in game doing things sadly.... I hope it changes soon....

Play any game week in and week out for nearly 5 years and people will get bored. you have seen everything, done everything.
The problem with that though, is that I've only been playing the game properly now for about 4-5 months and I'm already seeing what the OP has said.

However, if they can keep the expansions coming every 5-6 months (with bug fixes) and with the dili timegates coming with DR, they should be able to keep people occupied enough to stop "boredom" kicking in before they get the next expansion out.

It's the only "actively maintained" Official Star Trek game out there...

Many of us will continue to play it just because of that.

I plan on continuing to be here till either it dies or I do.

There are still more ares for this game to expand upon. Gamma quadrant...helll just opening more of the alpha quadrant would add more.

    Things that could be added:
adding more the home worlds and give them full content like Romulus would be awesome.

Missions taking place entirely on our ships.

adding random encounters...we have them now but without the Borg...imagine a mission were some probe or alien thing is destroying a planet and we have to find out why...something like TMP or Star Trek 4.

Perhaps a base commander mechanic...like part of the leveling up progression is you get to choose if you want to command a ship or a star base...this would open a chain of missions about your star base

I don't think so.. the Iconians are THE looming threat since the very beginning of STO, so somehow it's even time that we finally face them and bring that "chapter" to an end.. and I really hope that it will end before they will do a Gamma quadrant expansion.

    What you think is irrelevant...

4 years, and we just very recently confirmed that the Iconians are behind... well... everything.

Defeating the Iconians will be the mark of the death of STO. Thats a promise...
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

A simpler and less potentially frustrating alternative is an expansion of the new style of Delta Quadrant patrol missions added to the alpha quadrant. Give us short, repeatable missions that can be played at will, make an effort to flush out the STO universe, and add more interesting stuff to the old sector blocks.

Hey, I hope you’re right. I enjoy the game and, as one had posted above, it IS the only official online Star Trek game out there… in my mind, more drop boxes or zen items don’t make it “fresh” and “new”… we need something more constant. I’ll say it: I miss the class/race storyline missions of SW:TOR. It was, overall, a mediocre game but the one thing they had right was story.

If Cryptic gave us dynamic storylines not just for faction and race but speciality, it would be rather exciting, not to mention a good way to encourage players to play all of these races, factions and specializations. I’d love that.

As far as getting bored playing with friends, I never said THEY were boring, but I think we’ve outgrown the mallrat phase of our lives where going and ‘hanging out at the mall’ every day, doing/seeing/saying the same thing over and over again was the highlight of our day. I’ll be honest here: I am 43 years old.

Yes, I am older than Google, Wikipedia, and the Internet. I remember a time when the modem made that god-awful screech-brrr-ding-ding sound we all loved to hate. When BBS boards were all that was out there… hell, I’m older than Internet p(0)rn. I also love MMORPGS and have always loved Star Trek. Even as a kid I watched TOS every time it came on and missed more than my fair share of days at school when there was a marathon running. When STO came out I was right there to buy it… it was new and exciting, even if there were only 2 factions and it was more PVP heavy than it is now.

My point: I am torn. I don’t want to waste time replaying the same content over and over again but I do love the franchise. I like STO, I really do. I just wish nit was something… more. You know?

After DR, we'll probably get a Krenim season, complete with yet another rep grind and an inexplicably-duplicated Krenim temporal warship as a lockbox prize.

I still think it's time to get out of the Milky Way Galaxy...

...and go explore Andromeda Galaxy. (Kelvans, anyone?) Or the Large (or Small) Magellanic clouds.

In other words, visit some other nearby place where a completely new adventure could take place. Maybe the Traveler joins the crew briefly. Maybe your ship becomes an expeditionary vessel. Or you're a pioneer ship, helping to colonize elsewhere. Maybe a mission pack which permits specialized missions in those regions.

With the T6 ships, it's increasingly evident that Cryptic will NOT revisit any Trek canon designs which haven't been brought into the game. It's all about new ships. And what better way to bring T7 (or more T6) ships into the game?

Ships = profits = longevity for STO.

Yeah I'm a decade behind you but I started on all that too when I was really young lol.

The problem with the game which you probably remember is they had all those fleet actions that no one was doing because there was nothing really to gain from it. The gap between STO and these other games is that they have an end game other than dungeons/or in STO's case ques. Although most of popular games that have this kind of strong endgame that keeps their games going they backed out of factions and more based on random large teams of players or server vs server kind of gameplay.

Not for them to copy this kind of thing exactly but after you've finished holdings, starbases, reputations etc there isn't much to do besides kill x out of x in pvp which is rather boring. They need some PvX(PvE + PvP) areas where you have various tasks for whatever you are playing. What would be fun kind of emulating this kind of thing for STO would be Counter Command Alliance, Mirror Universe, and something else where you jump in without a team so its all random players and do some kinds of pvp and pve at same time. Roughly though that is what I think is missing when all the grinds are done its all you have to do is grind dilithium which gets boring fast. The easiest thing for them to do right now to do that is copy the voth battleground map and use the idea as a location for a 3rd dyson sphere found and maybe do some additions to it where things like artillery and such can be player usable so you can use different tactics where as the voth do not. Anyways that is just my 2 cents on the matter enjoy :)

After DR will come another set of specializations in another part of the Delta Quadrant. Along with that the Federation will develop another fleet of ships to take advantage and the KDF will be given a shuttle!

Well that makes about as much sense as killing Sargeras in WoW before dealing with Azshara or killing the Reapers before fighting the Blue Suns in ME.

You have a poor concept of threat management. Seriously.

I like your idea of letting captains opt for a star base command, perhaps at lvl 40 - 50? Make it diplomacy and military centric, even a role for fleets to defend the base. Sounds like fun!

At 63 I'm older then the PC, much less the internet - my first computer was an IMSI 8080 I built. I'm having a ball playng sto - even though my fleet is just a place to buy gear, it is pretty true to the feel of the show and I get to fly a goliath of an aircraft carrier, and even named it Galactica (cause the borg are cylons without the sex appeal)

We play because its fun, when it stops being fun we play somthign else. Nne years of WOW and Two years of Rift and I'm ready for a few years in space.

I am quite enjoying what I am doing at the moment, sure I have done most of the story content though I still have some DR missions and the refurbished older missions to play, once the anniversary event is over there is a crystalline event on the way then we will have the summer event, who has time to get bored?.

of course if I did ever get fed up with my normal daily stuff there is always plenty more I can find in the game to fill my time, maybe see if I can hunt down a few more accolades or run some deferi missions daily for a while or maybe even hit the foundry and try some of the missions there to see what they have to offer or maybe many of the other things I have yet to try.
apart from the delta missions there are a lot of patrol and encounter missions scattered around that I have never done so I may even give them a go.

also I have some stuff I still want to upgrade and I am enjoying crafting the stuff I need and working on gaining the dilithium through play to gradually get my gear how I want it to be.

then theres always the ship mastery and specializations I need to finish but that will mostly take care of itself I just need to check in every new and then to see if I need to switch ships or spend some specializations points.

course we still have season ten coming soon plus the promise of removing most of the boundaries between sectors to look forward to.

I also have not really done much in the Kobali adventure zone yet so might give that some of my time.

sure theres some stuff that needs work like PVP and PVE cued missions, maybe some exploration type content but how they will make it better then the crud we had before I will like to see.

all in all theres just too much stuff I can find to do to say I ever get bored.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Some feel like this, some don't. It all depends on the person.

Good news is the level grind will be over after Lv60. At least for now, unless they increase it again. So only grind left is for Dil, gear, marks, fill out the specs, etc. But at least you won't be leveling.

The DR was just a start in this side of space. I'm sure they have more FEs, more battles, more stories, and another Rep coming. They still have more of the older areas to unlock, and Gamma Quadrant as well. So there will be a lot they can still do.

Some times the changes are good, some times they are not. As for the player, either they adapt and keep playing or they leave. Any game is like this so this is no different. I like the game, so I adapt and keep on going.

Like usual, just speaking for myself here and I bet everybody will disagree but after the past three moth I’d like to have absolutely NOTHING new for a while… no new faction, no new maps, no new ships, no new event (man), no new reput, no new gear, no new spec tree and no new fleetholding.

What I want to have are major investments at cryptic and pwe side into game quality. Server/connection/game stability, bug fixes and reward/effort balance would make an awesome season 10 called “A new Hope”.

If they have to release a Talaxian or Pakeld lock box to finance it, by all means do though.
