Same here, crash to desktop at least every 30 min. Especially in community PVE missions, guaranteed crash. Am new and have only tried 4 community missions, and 3 of them are unfinishable due to crashing. Starbase 24 impossible also, CTD within 2 minutes of entering.
Tried rolling back drivers to 320, as suggested in another post. No help.
Tried playing lowest settings possible, no help.
Tried limited video card memory to 512 mb, no help.
No other games affected. No blue screen, no hints. Just plain crash.
Debugged the crash event in visual studio, basically memory is overflowing and goes through 2 layers of exception handlers.
2) Game worked for me until anniversary patch, then all hell broke lose.
So I wonder what they did in anniversary patch.....
^^^^This
What ever they did this last patch has nearly made the game unplayable for me.\
I have tried all that has been suggested and more to no avail. I have played other games since the 5 year patch with no issues so it is not a hardware issue for me. It is an STO issue.
so much for removing the 3D drivers, just had another crash...it was good while it lasted.
If this problem is anything to do with the last time we had crashes, i think it may ave something to do with the graphics ingame because resetting the graphics options ingame solved the problem for some, but not solving it this time around. This issue will only get to the point of no one being able to play if its not fixed soon:(
I believe God created the universe, because he knew we wanted to explore. So, he made us a playground...
I'm running a Dell Alienware Laptop with twin AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5800 Series.
Drivers are version 13.3001.1001.0 from December 20, 2013.
That would be an even older version than the one mentioned by the OP.
Still crashes to desktop at average every 2 hours of gameplay. 3 out of 4 crashes when changing maps:
- warp in, warp out
- beam in, beam out
The other cases I press some button (sample: accepting doff missions) or I'm literally doing nothing (like flying through sector space).
I had this scarcely before the anniversary update. The current increased crashes started with that update. As anybody knows, the stability of that update was not impressive. Thus I don't know, if that is mixing up with that problem.
Or to say it differently: I don't know if the actual problems have ANYTHING to do, with the topic described here.
Nevertheless, tuning down some parts of the display options might be a valid way to reduce the crashes.
All crashes are pretty much the same, with same error codes.
Getting to the point where I don't multi man missions anymore because, of course, crashes always happen at the end of the mission and I don't get any rewards. To finish all thoses crashes started after patch for anniversary event.
For those who wonder about driver, I have a radeon 6670 pro, driver are Catalist version 12.3, I know they're old but never had any problems until now necessitating new ones.

I think the error reporter only appeared once for me in over 30 crashes so far. Ive CTD in the bz so damn much and lost so much dili that it had become a RL issue of waste of time. I got pretty angry mind you, so much if I had met a dev in RL, ... ! Still upset but being weened off the game is a good thing as I now can look back at the sheer gullibility I was under.
The latest crash to desktop that happened to me I was sitting in sector space chatting in the chatbox. Nothing else. Not map switching, not panning the camera, not changing instances or moving the ship around. Just parked and typing in the chat box when it crashed. No error reporting box, as usual.
So... perhaps this is a memory leak in the client causing the problem?
"General Server Stability" means they are bolting the servers to the floor, right? Wouldn't you be upset if Branflakes were to go stumbling into the server room, knock a rack over, and bring the game down for a DAY? SO, they aren't scrwing it up, they are bolting it down.
I almost never upgrade my drivers, but since last week's patch I've started getting CTD's in the middle of PVP matches. I'll be firing at an enemy, everything'll lag out, and the game'll go **** up.
After I get back into game however it's usually fine for however long I play.
I am having the same issue and the crashes all appear to be random.
I did open a ticket with PWE and their e-mail support made a comment about not being wireless. I did tell them I was hardwired and am still seeing the issue and I haven't seen a response from them in 2 days.
I do see tribble patch notes showing all types of game fixes but I haven't seen anything about the CTD fixes.
I do hope someone from Cryptic is seeing all of these complaints/problems and working on it. It would be nice to see a note or message saying so too.
Same here. It's been laggy since the year-5 patch. At first I thought it was the same lag everyone else was getting, but it didn't go away. Frame-skipping sort of lag, not rubber-banding. Gameplay got harder and minigames (dil mining and omega traces) can't be played.
Today it turned into crashes with a whole lot more lag than usual. I downloaded another malware detector because it felt like my computer was calculating the last digit of pi just to switch maps.
I've been getting in there to change out doff assignments and getting kicked out.
Oh well. Looking back at these last few months I really have been playing too much STO so this is probably all for the best.
I have the same problem as many here. I have many many crashes to desktop.
In particular when I start bug hunt elite (at the first group of bugs it's almost sure that I will crash)
and with the Crystalline entity.
Please, look into this problem. I think that everybody can survive if we have some glitch or some
power that doesn't work properly, but to have crash to desktop during the game really destroy the fun.
It takes minutes to relog and it's very frustrating.

EDIT: also, I can't log back into the character that i was playing before the crash. stupid ****ing bull**** ****** game keeps giving me Login2_Timeout error message.
****ING LAZY**** TRIBBLE FIX IT ALREADY!!!
EDIT2: Repeated login attempts finally let me get back to my character.
Sadly, I'm already using the earliest driver which supports the GTX 970, version 344.11...
Until the winter event patch, I was having no issues at all (was running an older card then) but after that patch I started getting the dreaded CTDs frequently.
Then over the event period, somewhere around three weeks after they started, the problem stopped so I didn't think any more about it. In December (after the crashes stopped) I upgraded to the GTX 970 but continued using the same driver because newer drivers were pretty unstable with many games. I didn't have any crashes playing STO until the patch on 26th February 2015, now they keep happening. Sometimes on map changes, sometimes in the middle of a queued mission. It's driving me crazy, the game is so unplayable and yet the devs haven't even acknowledged any of the feedback about the crashes.
Join date is wrong, I've actually been around since STO Beta.
True alters don't have a "main". Account wide unlocks for all unique event rewards!!
In one of the other crash threads I stated I was on 320.18 but I'm actually on 332.21 on GTX 770. The old computer was 320.18.
I actually crash less than on the old computer on 320.18 but the old computer was running on a 250 GTS so it wasn't surprising.
One of the things that I found made the 332.21 not crash was:
- Running in Windowed Mode. Majority of the crashes happened to me when alt-tabbing from Full Screen mode.
- Don't use TXAA. TXAA made the clients not only crash after map changes, but I knew something was off on 332.21 due to rendering artifacts. I also have bloom turned off (both quality and the slider). In both MSAA and TXAA modes, playing with the bloom settings made the client crash after changing those settings.
I use DX11 mode and it works fine.
I am Lost all My Driver Version is 350.12 release date 4/13/2015 using a GT 520 card
I can see the point in downgrading but unfortunately it would probably cause problems with the other games.
Besides, there's always a question, what have changed since the latest update. I used the same drivers (top version available) for months before the update, after it things went horrible. I have noticed that crashes occur on the following conditions:
1. I am in the sector space entering Romulan-controlled part of space (flying from Sol).
2. I am trying to load a system map (sometimes it works, sometimes it crashes on loading screen at about 93-95% mark).
3. I am in the fight vs Heralds and the new herald ship spawns to the map.
The question is, what hardware and drivers does developers use. Maybe it's time for them to submit their DxDiags to the comunity XD.
This thread's getting buried fast, possibly because of the age of OP's post date.
Long story short, used to play this game daily since last spring with very few crashes ever, but right after last emergency maintenance game crashed repeatedly on character selection screen, locked me out of the joined trill delta recruit with a constant crash-on-boot, game developed artifacts consisting of white blocks, sometimes causing Win7 to restart, then white horizontal streaks covered all screens right after system POST including OS boot selector, multiple attempts to reinstall drivers resulted in hardware error in device manager and the low color 640x480 standard interface, now seeking RMA on evga GTX470's life warranty that served me for 4.5 years flawlessly at good temps & well maintained.
Strange coincidence but perhaps the driver frying of this game and of PWE's failure of a business model in game testing & stability domains might have been enough to push its age over the edge.
Deniers will deny and blame the victim, believe what you will I don't care, what goes around comes around eventually.
Got an 8800 GT backup in meanwhile, not sure if it can handle min graphics, but not gonna stake this too just yet unless patch notes and topics show resolution of nvidia related crashes and corruption.
Ths issues are the crashes i'm having are literally only on one map and literally only started with the S10 release, funny enough that map ISN'T one of the new ones but the old dil harvesting voth battlezone, now i wouldn't want to accuse anyone of deliberately causing issues to encourage players to play the new content but you have to wonder at the timing :P

Wait, you're crashing on the Voth Ground Battlezone?? ME TOO!!!!!!!!!! Thats where I crashed four times in one hour, last night.
EDIT: I run a pair of GTX 550 Ti in SLI, and have been for about 4 years. No matter how badly STO flips its **** and CTDs, those EVGA cards run every other game I play beautifully. Its clearly a coding problem in STO, not the fault of the cards.

Do you intend to fix it b4 6th year anniversary patch?

A test server is supposed to be used to properly test patches before patching anything....
