Crashing on the character screen

So I've finally managed to get the launcher to patch up the game after about 3 days of effort, and now the game immediately crashes after I get to the character selection screen.

After the crash the launcher verifys all the game files before allowing me to launch again, and the process repeats itself.

    So I suppose the question is, how do I get the patchxfer.log file back?
