When the particle minigame actually works, it is enjoyable and I've become addicted to it. It is more tolerable than the dilithium mining minigame. High scores are relatively easy to obtain and the rewards are 17x too generous (I'm up to my waist in slivers and shards). Dedicated players will be swimming in omega upgrade kits by the end of the event's run.
This will put a serious dent in metrics and needs to be addressed immediately.
I went into the day pretty jazzed about the omega kits. I should be able to complete 1 tonight. The grind, though, is formidable. I'm sure there will be some who grind it 12 -16 hours a day across many characters, but I've scaled back my expectations to maybe 10 or so during the event.

NO.
And I'll explain why.
If I'm a product manager at Cryptic, I need to find a reason to engage the customers (players) in the various features of the game.
It's likely many players aren't experimenting with the R&D system, or have hesistencies about using it.
The Omega particle mini-game is a terrific way to get players to a.) take a closer look at the R&D system; b.) provide adequate amount of particles to use the system; and c.) actually use the particles during the 5th Anniversary.

Can we just get the bloody thing to work first before we mentioned NERFING something yeh......

I'm glad to hear you are having success. I disagree. I'm only getting commons and cracking 650 is a challenge. Going after every particle nets me a consistently lower score than targeting groups with the mouse. When I hear about consistent perfect or high scores it makes me wonder if I'm playing the same mini-game.

Outside of the "It's Easy" response, only one person mentioned going after particle groups and using the mouse as advice, which I was doing before.
yeah, I have yet to break 700 and have gotten nothing but commons, I have no idea how people are getting 1200s and such
I fully mistrust the apocryphal results we are hearing from some people.
I've had mini-games that last the full term, I've had games that closed as soon as I began them. I've watched the results counters change when I've done nothing but just move a mouse pointer.
They'll get it fixed but as of this minute I see nothing to suggest the code is behaving as expected under heavy load. So no, we shouldn't get too hung up on results either until it is sorted.
BTW I think sometimes two topics get confused: mini-game vs. the Daily mini-game. The mini-game is still undependable but it does yield fragments. The Daily is truly broken if you get one with ESD space.

2,600 seems to be the maximum score. I haven't gotten anything higher. High scores have an increased chance to drop slivers, shards, and fragments. With consistent high scores you won't need to run around to different maps since you'll mostly get slivers or shards.
For me it's much easier to use the mouse than the keyboard. The only zone I've been in that's mostly bug-free is Defera. So I'm just camping there and raking in the l00t. :P
Well, you're right, the minigame is fun. But its not generous in any way. The rewards are random and a high score only has an invisible effect of on the odds behind the scenes, if it has any effect at all. Doesn't encourage good performance when you get 2,500 points and still receive a common trace.
The game is tedious and bugged...why there's no Lobi option I'll never know. Take my money, I'll buy the keys, but this is just soul-destroying and WAY too mucky.

What about those of us who have been crippled by intolerable lag and haven't played the past few days? Should it be nerfed for us just because you got everything you needed?

It should be the new way to "mine" minerals. However, dont hold your breath on that one.
Okay I've done some extra testing, and as far as I can tell from speaking with others, it seems to be based per account how good your luck is, because some people I know are getting the extra items very frequently whereas others are getting literally nothing regardless.

I no longer do any Bug Hunting work for Cryptic. I may resume if a serious attempt to fix the game is made.

*facepalm*
No nerfs required, but obviously we need to buff understanding of the word "S A R C A S M".

I'm lucky if the mini game doesn't stop earlier for some unknown reason, and award me with a puny ~300score reward.
That's sad, because otherwise I can hit 2K fairly easily.
Sarcasm? HERE???? No. There is no reverse psychology, there is no sarcasm. They'll take it seriously and as negative and actually NERF IT!!!!
Why would you take the risk for a joke?

The Daily is truly broken if you get one with ESD space.
Broken, yes, but there's a way to work around it. To complete the particle scan at ESD, beam down to SFA. Go to the end nearest the goldengate bridge, and find the memorial. Now change instances until you get one where there's an omega particle right near the memorial. Scan that one, and your ESD mission will complete.
Yes, I'm serious. Now you may laugh hysterically at just how hosed the code has become. If you're a coder yourself, you may laugh yourself into incontinence. There are paper towels under the sink in the break room.
The grind on these games is horribly boring. When I play, I click on the arrow and sometimes it works, sometimes nothing. My mouse is there, I click.... then nothing. That they made such a game that hinges so much on lag is beyond me. If things happened when you actually hit the button, and not never or a second later, the game might be tolerable.

The upgrade is a cash grab by itself. Hate it. And now I have a (grindy) way to skip it ? Hell yeah !
Either one is time away from the other... Opportunity Cost, why do you forsake me!

Keep it status quo, imho.

Y'all really need a sarcasm detector.
Ah, well at least *someone* got it. I mean, just the opening sentence practically screams sarcasm.

Clearly this is an exploit and should be nerfed immediately.
But, all it ever hands out to me, is commons and silvers!
And, this is with scores averaging 1000+.
