As someone who just recently hit 40, should I start worrying about R&D?
I was watching alot of twitch streamers and it seemed like a huge deal to have created gear instead of NPC/or Quest gears.
But it seems like such a daunting task.
I think i would have started a little earlier then 40. Getting R&D up as much as you can will be a big help in the long run but you need to be prepared for huge investments of dilithium and other materials to build things you want with the RNG part of crafting preventing you from making things you specifically want right off.
Speaking of sigs, you don't think yours is a bit much? Honestly, equating DR to the TRIBBLE and the final solution is way beyond the point of bad taste, let alone immaturity.
I looked it over and changed it but you need to calm yourself
call someone immature is very immature on your part
I thought 20 was the year long grind and 15 was *only* three months?
Well, 15 is a fine goal, but 20 gets you guaranteed crits on tech upgrades when using purple RLS doffs. Also, more crits on crafting all the other stuff is also good. It lowers cost.
Yeah I found out about dil mining, so started a new charecter for it. I don't know how much it's gonna help, but anything would at this point.
So far in Storyline missions i've not had *Too much trouble* i've died a few times though due to not knowing what weapons to put on my ship but.
I think the most annoying one, in my opinion was "The vault." Why? -I got through most of it, and was Right at the exit to excape, and I ended up quitting the mission on accident.
Was a really dumb move on my part but ended up redoing it with no problems. Except for a certain warbird halfway out of the excape meanwhile you're in a tiny shuttle and it gets blasted. >.>;
Also i'm not all that sure what to put on my officers. I looked up all types of information on them but I don't really know what I want to do endgame or if they would be effective in it.
wow look, devvies finally killed the game, not just pvp haha
what a bunch of idiots.

I didn't see anything about the promised discount for upgrading gear, which a dev talked about on Priority One LAST YEAR. So I'm still chained to the one ship I upgraded equipment on. Thanks for the new ship change system that I won't be able to use.
I'm excited about a few different things in the patch. I even find the new BOff Training exciting. Then again, "Exciting" is one of those interesting words. One of the most exciting times I can remember? Being charged by a bear. It was very exciting, but not very enjoyable at the time. It does make for a fun story now, though...
Yeah, remember the times when current R&D was new and that was considered a bug?
I'm happy about this change but in all honesty it's coming way too late, should have been like that from the beginning.
I'm not sure. I'm at least level 15 in 5 schools on my main and at level 12 on the others.
But this will certainly help me crank to level 20 much faster, so it's appreciated.
Granted they never should've removed the option, but what's done is done.
Why in hell does the devs think that the way we had trained our BOFFs needed revamping? Was it because there wasn't enough dil sinks in the game already? Or is it because they want to make sure to attach a dil tax to everything we do in game now?
At the rate it's going, the devs will probably think it's a good idea to attach a dil price for every time we use a boff ability in combat.
Soon, it'll be that we have to have x amount of dil before accepting a certain mission or it will be impossible to complete.
Actually that's something that's been requested for a VERY long time. The bigger question is what took so long.
The problems in the old system were amplified with Legacy of Romulus. It's been a pain to have a Romulan officer that needed training in a skill, and a Fed or Klingon willing to train them, but since you can't swap Romulan BOFFs with anyone but another Romulan you couldn't get that training.
Another issue was the risk however light that when you traded a BOFF for training someone would simply run off with it and in some cases whatever you traded them for the training.
This system removes those problems and solves them rather elegantly.
The price is 200 dilithium, BUT that's only in the cost of the PADD. It should be noted that when this hit Tribble the cost of the PADD was 500 dilithium, and it took four hours to craft one, meaning you could be waiting all afternoon to craft a PADD to put the skill on. That's been reduced to half an hour. A VAST improvement that was made because the Tribble feedback was listened to...for once. :P
In any event, the dilithium cost grants an added convenience as your BOFFs will now have all the skills that you train them with from here on out forever.
There's plenty with this update that I don't like and we've already gone to battle with the Devs for their decision making regarding the difficulty increase in the PvE queues and the reduction in rewards, but this new BOFF system? I'm down with this change. Solid improvement in my view.
Now ABOUT those PvE queue changes. Well I won't rehash the 30 page threads of everyone talking about how dropping rewards and raising difficulty is just a miserable idea, but I will say that increasing the XP gain from the enemies in the mission is a welcome step in the right direction. You're not there yet, but it is progress. I get that you couldn't just throw out the build a few days before it was scheduled to go live. But please keep going.

Remember that you don't need everything on every character to cover your needs for the whole account. So look into two things.
1) Which School Traits sound interesting. Personally, I think the Science trait is a must for science character, but the rest seem not that strong.
2) You probably want to have access to all the schools across your account - but it doesn't matter which character can craft Cannons as long as you have a character that can do it. You can trade crafted items, and even if you equip the, they are only bound to your account.
There is some value, I think, in focusing the skills on one or two characters only if only for the "logistics" of the R&D materials - it's easier if you only need to transfer everything to your crafter characters.

w00t. Now if they could only do something about how frustrating it is to grind blues into whites....
"The Foundry Top 3 System is a new way for players to access Foundry missions in Sector Space"
Sounds interesting. Worth a try.
"Resolved an issue which blocked progression for the mission Knowledge is Key in the Defera Invasion."
Sure, there are multiple issues with that mission, and there are still plenty of other bugged missions on Defera, and the solution might be like those "solutions" to the power tray bug that never seem to actually resolve the issue, but... it's nice to see them acknowledge that there is a problem on Defera.
"The Rogue Federation and KDF ground NPC Groups are now eligible components for Kill objectives."
Maybe I can get that kill accolade now!
So yeah, there's some good in there. And I'm going to wait to try the boff system before judging it.
Otherwise, it would have been a great patch. Would be nice to get some explanation WHY?
There's a sticky thread at the top of the forum from groverclvld/with your explanation directly from the devs.
They nerfed the 5 most popular queues to convince people to play other ones. They buffed three of the least popular queues to encourage people to play them specifically. Bug hunt is a mystery what they were thinking. I'm guessing they buffed it because the bug fix to boss HP was considered enough of a Nerf to make it need a reward boost. Or they're just crazy. Which I'm not ruling out.

I got 1 character to level 15 in 1 school pre-DR. That character is now at level 20 in that school, and I have no other schools at level 15 on any alt.
Because, who cares. It only takes 1 school at level 15 to make boatloads of ec on the exchange and then you can use that ec to buy more stuff from others who thought along the same lines.
Now I am doing some of those bonus projects to unlock traits and accolades, but I'm not in there resetting them every day so I still have a ways to go. The update to the system will help me go faster because I have 2 science toons who could use that science trait.
Okay, so I'm not just dreaming that my full auto rifles all got screwed?
I read this in the patch notes:
"Resolved an issue that was causing the primary fire of Full Auto Rifles to have higher than intended DPS output."
Guess that means full auto serves no more purpose. Sad when a pulsewave or a pistol can match the DPS of a full auto. *sigh* Now I need to change my whole loadout..
