as it is, logged off for a bit now see 2ndary deflector advertised when log in ... seems a pure cash grab. liked the game before they killed it several months ago. refuse to spend any cash on this TRIBBLE anymore. is there any way to get the intellectual property into better hands?

I think that this maybe is a rant that we won't get a free secondary deflector when we receive the slot in a few days?

If so, I would hardly call spending 50k ec a "cash grab". And if you don't want to get those deflectors, your ship won't perform worse suddenly without having them.

Secondary defectors would barely qualify as a cash grab when compared to the R&D and upgrade systems. Or selling copy pasted T5 ships at T6...

I haven't seen a secondary deflector on Tribble that would improve my current Wells build.

It's not worth ranting about, OP. Just ignore the whole thing. Life's too short to get upset over stuff that won't even have a tangible benefit for a well-built Science ship.

by just being on the game, one more number in an artificial number count to the PWE taskmasters, it would be enough to justify keeping the $$$ rolling in.

What does spending ECs have to do with spending cash? ECs are an in-game currency. Telling me I have to spend 50,000 ECs for a Secondary Deflector is like telling me I have to spend 50,000 ECs on the Exchange for a new Boff or Doff. It is meaningless. It is what you do with in-game currencies: you buy stuff to improve your character.

If they told me the only way to get Secondary Deflectors was to pay $20.00 I could see the gripe. Telling me it cost 50,000 ECs is equivalent to me selling 1 Mission's drops upon completion.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

If the Star Trek IP gets removed from Cryptic this game shuts down.

I like this game. I hope it gets back on the correct path soon.

It is not up to use to approve or disapprove. It is CBS's job to decide if Cryptic is doing right or wrong with the IP. We are the consumers. Our job is to play it or not play it. That is what being a consumer does: it gives us free will to decide where and how we wish to spend our money on a product.

But none of that has anything to do with Secondary Deflectors being a cash grab. :)

LOL. As much as ppl hate all the money-grubbing, it never ceases to amaze me how certain people just think they can push a few manipulative buttons like this, and then expect everyone to blindly rally around them.

    Yup, I do.

I would prefer if the Star Trek (TV Shows) intellectual property was in more.. active hands.
The OP probably thought a misleading title would draw less people willing to blow holes in his flawed argument.

Yeah, seriously. If I were going to complain about the IP I would be far more inclined to complain about why there has been no TV show for a decade or about JJ's re-writes of some of Trek's history. Complaining about a game which is not even canon just seems foolish.

What game were you playing? STO has had a C-Store since Day 1. The moment they added the Excelsior to the C-Store it became a cash grab. The Excelsior was the best Combat Cruiser in the game for years. If you wanted to be the best you had to spend money. Every ship added has only increased that.
It is up to us to play or not play, but thx (thecosmic1) , it is also up to us to approve. what else are we cognizant for ?
No. It is up to use to decide whether we wish to spend or not. :)

Then go and play other Trek games. I playtested Alien Domain in December. Maybe that game will be more to your liking when it comes out.

It is fine to not like STO. But you also need to understand that you do not need to play STO. Saying "I do not like it and will not play it" is not the same thing as saying "I do not like it so it should be shut down." One is a personal choice. The other is deciding for thousands of others.

Stop treating STO like a drug: people are addicted and cannot stop even though they hate it. It is not a drug. It is a game. :)

And it took until F2P before you could convert game-money into cash-shop-money, so until then, it was basically P2W - if you didn't spend money yourself, you could never have the best toys.

Here is the thing. 3+ months after DR and I still only have 5 MK XIII pieces on my Sovereign - and I did not pay money to get them. I have no Mk XIV pieces and no Epic pieces. I am still doing Advanced and Elite content with my existing ship using the same Mk XII gear I had gotten before DR. Crafting has not changed anything for me. I had a 12,000+ DPS build pre-DR and I have a 12,000+ DPS build post-DR.

I see all these fools rushing in to get MK XIV gear thinking it is going to change everything when all the changes they need to make have nothing to do with gear. It is all about simply understanding your ship build a little better. The guys doing 3,000 DPS are only going to do 4,000 DPS with Epic gear. They are still going to fail at Advanced and Elite Content even after they go Epic.

The people who feel compelled to spend are only fooling themselves. In STO how you build is far more important then what you build with. If people would understand that they would save themselves at lot of moaning. :)

Sorry you have had such a terrible time with this game... maybe this game was never something you'd want to play.

Wrong, we, as players, have absolutely no power to change what Cryptic is doing. The only thing we can do (if people want to do it) is stop playing. If that's what you want to do, go right ahead.

Also, the IP isn't going anywhere.

The current license lasts into 2018. At that point CBS and Cryptic get to negotiate for an extension. Until then it is not going anywhere.

Exactly. They gave a license for Infinite Space. They gave a license for Timelines. They gave a license for Alien Domain. The existence of STO does not stop CBS from giving other game companies a license to make other games.

STO does not need to be gone for there to be other Star Trek games.

Actually it has everything to do with the topic. If you can complete the objectives with existing gear then you have no need to get better gear. Thus you have no need to spend money on Crafting Upgrades. You can simply take your time and get the Upgrades free, like I do. :)
