Were pleased to announce an update to the foundry making top-rated missions more easily available for Captains, coming with our new Anniversary update this month!
So how are we going to keep the idiots from flooding this system with click-grind resource-farming missions? What sort of safeguards are in place and how will it be enforced?

All of the ones that I'm aware of start at Earth Spacedock.

So how are we going to keep the idiots from flooding this system with click-grind resource-farming missions? What sort of safeguards are in place and how will it be enforced?
Almost all the click-grind missions are in ESD or Starfleet Academy. They'll need to make them for individual systems, and then somehow get the rating high enough for people to play it and also rate it highly.
My only problem with this is that "top rated" missions will be displayed.
How is "top rated" calculated? I ask because I've made a couple of missions that have been very highly rated by the people who have played them, however the number of people who played the missions is not very high. (<1000).
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see stupid farm missions which yield no real rewards popping up all over the sector, but I'd like to know if it is the average star rating of the mission (generated by the player feedback) or the number of people who played the mission that determines the "top rating" status and thus qualifies the mission to be displayed.
This also brings up the question of how will this system handle missions with more than one destination doorway? For instance, you travel to Risa to pick up an ambassador and then travel to Trivas (Empok Nor) via sector space to complete/continue the mission. Will the mission pop up at both locations?

Mission: "Preemption (Federation)", <--- Give it a try, I'd certainly like to see this one get a top rated status.

The question I have is if the foundry itself is going to be updated to be something more than a bunch of glitchy and blockish looking missions that no one has cared for in over 3 years or more lol.
That is great to make sector space feel more alive because it never felt alive since the days of when a new FE would come out and ppl would swarm the area heh. Anyways for foundry authors I hope this helps you guys out but if its still same old stuff as always I just won't be interested tbh.
This is some awesome addition and it's good to see Cryptic hasn't abandoned the Foundry completely...
BUT...
I'm not sure if displaying just the "Top 3" missions is going to be a good idea in the long run. It may lead to a situation where the same three missions will be available all the time, while any less popular missions starting at the same locations won't receive any attention. It's basically "popular will be even more popular".
It would be nice to be given an option to show ALL qualifying missions starting at any given "door". This way these less popular missions would still be easily found and accessed. Any thought has been given to that?
The article actually says that the missions will rotate every few hours...
Missions that need review will not available through the Foundry Top 3 System. The list of missions is the same for all players (assuming identical allegiance and level) and will be refreshed with a new set of missions every few hours. The ones you will see, however, are missions that have been highly rated by other players.

Captain, my Captain(Hunter1)! They actually did it!
Thank you! I'm very glad to see this, for all the reasons people have just said. It will be great fun being able to fly a ship across the galaxy and see what adventures we stumble into. I think this is the first time that's been possible with real, story missions.
Mattaukett - I like those two ideas too, maybe something for the next update!

Damn you, Cryptic. I get good and mad over grind and non-faction ships and not having my player character consulted, and then you go and do something awesome like this and ruin the whole rage-thing.

...
it will almost certainly be the start of the mission.
This sounds good. I usually hit some foundry missions along the way. Since we have to "grind" ourselves to lv60. I might do some foundry missions to help break up the usual patrol and ground action.

So, is this why they posted that picture of Borg near the wormhole?
I thought someone said that was a foundry mission...
That image had nothing to do with the Anniversary Mission, a Foundry Mission, the new Foundry Feature, or any missions what so ever Not even PvE!
It does have to do with a certain REDACTED that is coming next Monday the 26th in it's own posts and threads, so keep your eyes peeled on how you can solve this Borg/DS9 mystery!

This is great news!!! I'd like to make a suggestion or two for consideration...

Building on these even more, how about setting up a "Deep Space" sector where Foundry authors could populate the area with the missions similar to how exploration clusters used to work. I think this would be a great way to add a real sense of boldly going where no man has gone before!
The foundry is a great tool, I'm glad to see the dev team hasn't abandoned it.
I would very much like to second this, I did enjoy the exploration missions even though some made little to no sense it was a good way to spend some time and make a bit of dill in the process.
The Dev's have said in the past a big no to a playable Borg ship, and I sincerely hope they never go back on this!
On the whole I feel this foundry access idea is a very good and a good QoL improvement, a lot of the story based foundry missions are very Trek and there are some very talented story tellers in there that deserve the exposure.
"We are pleased to announce an update to the Foundry" yet ANOTHER lie its not an update to the foundry system its an update to how you access the most popular missions.
YET another lie;
Another chance to TRIBBLE over those that think that this excause for a game let alone one that has the name "STAR TREK" can be fixed
CRYPTIC you want us to like your game don't LIE to us and don't TRIBBLE us around when we are trying to make things better.............
YET ANOTHER LIE your like my father cryptic the only time you don't lie or TRIBBLE with us is when you SHUT UP
I'M SICK OF THIS!!!!!!!!!
Take a lesson from E.A. and their new policy : COUSTUMERS COME FIRST

I agree.
It's wonderful to get some Foundry love, BUT...
We may be in the same bind the Foundry is currently stuck in with the 'TOP RATED' list.
My hope is that this is only the tip of the iceberg...and that the ideas presented in the thread promoted below get enacted too....
Otherwise new missions are going to be just as buried and lost as they are now.
(What's so wrong with opening up a page with a list of ALL missions that use a system as a starting point? (again, see link below). That way everyone's mission will at least be SEEN.)
This is a fantastic idea. This brings a sense of exploration back intro the game. Bravo guys, bravo.
My only suggestion is what some have already mentioned about new missions that come out. I think having a rotating top 3 missions per location is a great idea (lots of good quality variety ), but perhaps a 4th rotating slot for new missions to get a chance to get played? There are a lot of well done missions that are already published that im really looking forward to discovering, but there are a lot of captains out there with good stories that are just starting to publish that i personally would hate to be lost in the shuffle.
After being a bit disappointed there'll apparently be no faction-specific ship for a big landmark like the fifth anniversary, this new foundry enhancement more than makes up for it. A really excellent move by the devs, and a very welcome move back towards exploration in STO. I'm looking forward to taking my ships back out into sector space to see what's out there. Thank you Cryptic!
This seems cool and all, but...why couldn't you have added this to the old exploration zones? Would've made a lot more sense IMO and really made them that much closer to their original intent.

Q Junior provoking the Borg again, but this time using the Prophets.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
A marvelous step in the right direction. Outstanding addition to bring back a sense of "exploration" and variation to the universe and introduce UGC to more of the community.
A few questions
1. what are the conditions for "top rated content"? If a mission has say 39 plays and qualifies for rewards with a 4 1/2 star rating and a mission has 1000 plays with the same rating will both receive visibility on a door? Is there a minimum amount of plays for a mission to qualify?
2. what happens after playing a mission? will it remain on a door until the refresh timer? if a door has only say 3 missions that qualify will they always be visible even after being played?
3. Spotlight missions are easy enough to find (at least the handful), will top rated non spotlight missions have to compete with spotlight missions for door visibility?
I can understand not putting new content in this system...as a new author I learned quickly that in order to really test my mission I needed to publish it to view things like pathing and would have really disliked people playing an incomplete mission and giving it poor ratings. So while I am a proponent of getting new material more plays I can't imagine any easy way to separate genuine complete new missions from incomplete or test missions: save adding a flag in the foundry editor to publish without ratings so you can test and not be punished if others happen across your story.
But man this is a really good improvement and one I've been suggesting since the removal of clusters. Well done.

Pretty much it would have to be something extremely enticing to get people to come log into the game at this point.
