How about Secondary Shields and Warp Cores?

Since some Science ships got or will get a secondary deflector why not give the other career path ships their own double gear?

I'll admit I blow up a lot in my tactical ships so they could use an extra shield as far as I'm concerned. That leaves the Engineer, who are already good tanks but their ships aren't exactly sporty, ,so how about a secondary warp core? Though actually an impulse engine makes more sense now that I think of it...

I don't suppose it'd be too much to ask to give 'em all an extra warp core (hey, we can warp to the delta quadrant now)?

    It's been hinted at for so long, I suspect it's like the side mounted weapons, expansions to [insert whatever here], and the focus on PvP that Cryptic have promised in the past....

    All vapourware. It's designed to keep you wanting...

    Very few ships canonically have secondary shielding. So few in fact, the Scimitar has its own unique console for it.

    While a secondary warp core has been shown in the past to exist, for some reason we never see a ship using both cores at the same time. So that's pretty unlikely.

    Secondary engines are more likely, as we see multiple ships with backup engines, such as the Galaxy class.

    Get out Mr.I-don't-want-anything-new. I mean do you really think you can stop power creep, or that that even makes sense in a game like this? You think Intelligence will be the only specialization?

    Supposedly this is what Cruiser Commands and Flanking for Raiders are for. Flanking could be added to all Escorts, but that is the easy way out.

    Escorts have DPS in a DPS-centric meta that Cryptic panders to and has absolutely no interest in reigning in. They do not need anything, because they are the goose that lays golden eggs. There is no point in giving them anything because they already have everything space gameplay requires.

    Warbirds challenged that with their singularity powers and accompanied doffs and whatnot that lets a player do more with their singularity powers.

    Cruisers and Science Vessels were understandably left in the dark. Cryptic's solution to balance Cruisers and Science Vessels against Escorts and Warbirds was to create Cruiser Commands and Secondary Deflectors.

    Cruiser Commands were a good step in the right direction, even though there is absolutely nothing in the game that helps augment and customize Cruiser commands to benefit a particular playstyle (or number of playstyles).

    Secondary Deflectors are unfortunately vaporware at this point. I held out hope they would be out by now, but with their team focusing on other projects that aren't related to Secondary Deflectors (like additional reputation gear, consoles, space traits, spec trees, T6 ships, Intelligence powers, etc.), I'm really not holding my breath on seeing more secondary deflectors anytime soon, unless they are specifically attached to a brand new science ship, or an old science ship (like the Intrepid) which they shamelessly double dip on.

    This shouldn't come to a big surprise, since science vessels have grown to be the redheaded stepchild of ship choices in STO. Cryptic's masterful solution to making competitive science ships (and to be fair, cruisers) is to make them more like escorts and less like science ships (or cruisers).

    With comments around the time of Delta Rising in response to getting some science love is, "Don't worry, more tactical-focused science ships are coming down the pipe!" you kind of already know Cryptic has nothing fresh to bring to the table except more pandering to the DPS meta.

    It's sad, but it is what it is.

    a flanking bonus has been added to ALL ships now... you just need to grind the spec points for it.

    Im assuming you keep blowing up with the annoying Vaadwaar polaron flack cannon, Personally I use the Dyson set for the Adv. Metaphasic shields on my Jem carrier, stacking Mk xii Parametallic Hull plating Is good for tanking against Polaron Damage as well :D

    Good lord no... Thats the one thing that keeps raiders unique. Please don't give them the idea to squander that. Besides, if you need flanking so badly, have a look at the intelligence specialization tree again.

    I don't see those happening any time soon, if at all. The secondary deflectors are as many say, vaporware. But here's to hoping that it may get done. If it does get done, it won't be done right or be balanced the way it should. More likely to see something like computer cores than secondary shields and warp cores. IMO

    I want a backup set of 8 extra weapon slots.

    For emergency purposes.

    All the new Stealth ships should get a Secondary Deflector slot because Stealth.

    That would be easy for them to add and would encourage purchasing the Dyson Science Destroyer in the Lobi store.

    Maybe, but they already gave engineers a heal-all power so instead of doubling down I though they could do something to lessen their weaknesses.

    Actually it makes some sense for cruisers to have secondary shields (they're big with a lot of excess power but they're also sort of sitting ducks) and escorts to have secondary impulse engines that allow them additional sublight speeds. Really the "Red Alert" mechanic that deactivates full impulse is a kiss of death for escorts that rely on their speed to hit and run and avoid dangerous situations they cannot tank their way through. Their secondary engine could provide a lesser speed boost than regular full impulse but still more than they get now.

    They need to permanently remove the "Dead Alert" thing and allow Captains to determine ship status.

    At most, I could see Cruisers getting a built-in Subsystem backup; where once every 30-60 seconds, any would-be subsystem failure would instead only bring the subsystem down to 10-15 power instead of a total shutdown. Probably only for Shields and Engines (though battlecruisers/dreadnoughts/battleships would also have Weapon subsystem backup) given the defensive/tank nature of cruisers.

    Science already has secondary deflectors (on select ships), but they could do with having other options besides the Lobi store Dyson Destroyer's secondary deflector that allow for greater flexibility and synergy with Sci abililities, such as a 2ndary Deflector that grants extra hold power and damage to Gravity Wells and Tractor Beams/Reversed TBR, or a 2ndary Deflector that adds a confuse/placate debuff to all Sci skills.

    Escorts generally already have DPS and speed to their advantage; and don't need anything doubled or added to make them even more useful than they already are.

    crusires already have more weapons than any other ships and they have thier commands. so no they dont need tripple shields and warp cores.

    Because Secondary Deflectors aren't linked to ships based on career paths. They're only for Science Vessels, rather than every type of science ship.

    Secondary Deflectors were meant as a solution to a problem - Science Vessels being considered weak.

    We don't need Secondary Shields, Warp Cores, or Engines unless there is actually a weakness in a particular type of ship that needs to be adressed. But no one can tell me that Escorts are underpowered, and I also challenge that claim for Cruisers. Specific Cruisers, certainly, but generally?

    Science Vessels have one good use in my experience - help out PUGs that don't bring the DPS necessary for Infected Advanced and similar Queued events. But that is a bit... sad niche. It means you don't need them if you're actually good.
