My main character still flies the Excelsior on single-player content - mostly patrols these days. It's still equipped with Mk XI blue phasers and Mk XI blue torps, console and other gear are pretty decent, boff setup is fun. It gets by fairly well on Normal.
I wouldn't take it into an STF anymore though. STF is T5-FU Gal-X all the way these days, and with upgrade costs being what they are, doubt my main will fly multiple ships like he used to.
Bottom line, if you like a ship, use it. Only reason my Gal-X is the ship getting upgrades is it was already T5F, so it made more sense to upgrade it than the Excelsior, which is just the C Store version.
It's the ship I always return to. I am a tact captain and though the Excelsior was never my fav ship aesthetically, it is the one I would never give up. I have the fleet T5U version and I enjoy its versatility. I had thought the Fleet Sovvy would have been superior but in the end the Fleet Excel wins hands down imho.
"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward." - Rocky Balboa (2006)
