so I never rly post anything if I do it I mostly just post to ask something and that's it but is this game even worth playing anymore lvling sucks now just to get to 60 exp has been nerfd big time and well it seems that tacs have have been big time nerfd I normally can kill a ship with in 2 min but when delta rising came out no now it takes longer tbh I think the cryptic/pwe has taken the fun out of sto.
*and before any1 asks I did spend money on this game only 40$ tho and that was it*
ya im a red shirt so what im a master at being cannon fodder so what?
well, this everybody has to determine for himself. If it takes you 2 minutes and more to destroy an NPC ship (presumably on normal) you definately doing something wrong, don't know what, but i'd say you need to ask some more questions here on the forum regarding builds.
In your case i can understand why the game is nomore fun...i mean, before DR the game offered absolutely ZERO challenge. Now a tiny bit more than nothing to succeed.
Before anybody mentioned that upgrading a build comes with a huge price tag, i need to say that it doesn't. atleast not for succeeding in PVE it doesn't.
Tactic, Team play and Boff layout > than excellent gear, period.
Find people you like to play with, people who can maybe teach you something along the way and the game becomes fun again in no time. Refuse to interact with other people in this MMO and the game is boring. Choice is yours alone, STO can be a very entertaining game if you let it.
Play 1->50 with freebie ships and enjoy the story content. Then log off and don't spend another dime on it. You will have fun and avoid 99% of the problems reported here.
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
No, it really isn't much fun anymore. I'm playing it until I find something else.
DR content is too fragmented to enjoy. Play a content mission, then get stuck in purgatory until I amass enough points to unlock the next story mission.
Before the changes to the Queues, I could alway find something fun to do. Now the queues suck because of ramped up HP and mandatory optionals that nobody likes to play. I'm just doing winter event stuff, at the moment.
Not sure what I'll even log in after the holidays.
Different things are fun for different folks. Same thing one might find to be tedious, boring, etc might be fun for another.
Hell, I've made over 60 beam arrays this morning trying to get the three mods I want...it's going nowhere fast, but with none available on the Exchange - well, what's a guy to do, right? They're not something that I need - it's just something to dork around with and test. Some would find that insane - a chore - you name it...I'm getting a chuckle out of some of the combinations.

Been there done that. I don't do it every day, but it's something that makes a nice change of pace. Especially during one of the academy particle scan events.

You're doing this too? lol
I think I've made over 150 over the past 4 days...
I rolled a new character to fly escorts (as my main tac captain flies cruisers, and figured I'd use one of my character slots). Levelling from 1-20 has been fun so far. Know what was the most fun? Starbase 24 and Gorn Minefield at Lieutenant Commander level - not only are those queues popping for the most part - you can drop in minutes after the mission has started, feeling like you're arriving to save the day.
Now - the "fun" new additions? Story content is great. But the grind is immense. So, I'm not doing it. When it became apparent I was going to hit a story wall in DR, I finished up the Kobali Prime chain, and went about my business. I got my main up to 60 now, and am ready to tackle the last few story missions, mostly grind free.
The queues are...not fun to pug, so I don't anymore.
Spec points and gear upgrades, I'll get as I get, and can stomach. I'll run a patrol here and there. Really wish I could repeat the alpha quadrant patrols for variety, or even had the genesis missions back to break the monotony. Upgrading my equipment is taking a long time as well. I've spent plenty on this game, and am willing to buy ships or whatever, but not buying dil to upgrade gear, line I won't cross.
So - if you're not having fun - try something new, roll an alt from a faction or profession you haven't tried, level up to 60 from there, run some lower level queues, meet some new people (and quite possibly place high up). Still plenty of stuff to do, and alot of it doesn't cost millions of dilithium.
personally im having great fun, what one player finds fun another player will not, sure there are a few things in the game that need sorting mainly some of the qued missions that could do with being not quite so easy to fail, but theres plenty of other things to do that are fine.
im up to lv60 on all my characters, ship mastery is coming along fine and captains specialization is working as I expected it to.
I not fussed about crafting stuff but I am doing the daily bonus just to level up my characters, and upgrading gear to mk14 is working out quite well for me.
I really enjoying the winter event and the T6 breen ship was an unexpected bonus.
all in all im happy with the way things are although I know they could be better.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
I think I've made over 150 over the past 4 days...
The real fun will be once I've got four of them and start to upgrade them...I can easily picture all four them ending up with the same mod I don't want for that fourth mod. Wheeeeeeeeee!
As an aside, [CrtD][CrtH][Dmg] appears to be the most common combination that keeps coming up.

I've been doing this too, as I am officially giving up on cannons for my ship.
However, the randomness of this process makes me wish I had the ability to force choke someone.
So far, 1 beam with the mods I want, 4 of a slightly different flavour that sell on the exchange for decent coin. The rest? Trash.
Hey I just vaped you, and this is crazy;
But here's my frequency, so hail me maybe?
I think it has fun elements to it still. Over all it is fun. What in my meager opinion isn't fun are the game joy sucking conditions relating to how PvE's, XP, and Reputation marks are now done.
What I find the most un-enjoyable thing about the game is that no matter how many times you report a bug, NOTHING IS EVER DONE TO FIX IT. That being said, overall, I enjoy playing the game.
I often just enjoy walking about and looking at all the nice little details put into everything from the environment to individual characters. I have to say that I really like the look and design of the Q WW map.
I find the space combat fun as well as some of the ground stuff. I hate the way the ground GUI and player controls are handled though. So many other games have done it so much better that when I play STO ground missions I feel as though I am trying to drive a car while facing backwards with one hand handcuffed to my opposite foot, using a defective mirror that looks forward out a spider cracked windshield.
To say the least, ground controls SUCK. And no matter what you do to avoid enemy fire, there is no cover. None. So you might as well just stand in the open and not worry about anything but putting beams down range. But the maps often look great so I have that.
What happened to those unique forum ranks I paid for?
Its depend on what is fun for you, lets say it can be funny watch the clouds slowly advance in the sky, thats its a sane diversion, now if you like the clouds advancing in the sky while ypu are breaking rocks at the side of the road, then Argala online its sure fun for you.
First fun is a very subjective subject, based quite a bit on what you like to do and don't.
Second, there are levels on STO that are totally optional, but almost necessary as you go and do other optional content. For example the R&D is totally optional, unless you begin to get into min/maxing or any queue over normal, then it starts to become less and less optional.
But is the game fun... to me? No, not since DR... and probably not for a while before DR actually.
Personally I'm not a person who likes to do the same content over and over and over again hour after hour... day after day. It's just not fun to me. I'm not a min/maxer so couldn't care less if my level XIV beam weapon has the so called "necessary" proc's on it... as dictated by a couple of self-appointed DPS cookie-cutter police, so I'm not going to try and create the same beam weapon over and over again 200 times.. until I get that perfect match.
DR came out, new content, and I was all over it... until I discovered that basically it was spend an hour doing exactly what I hate.... grinding the same missions over and over and over again... until I can get to the next little piece of new content... to go and do what I hate again.
So... to me no it's not fun and why I generally don't play anymore. I can count the number of hours I've logged into STO the past month on two hands with fingers left over.

Of course the game is not fun anymore. Its horrible actually. Especially the space part and the lvling. Wanna know something "great"? It seems they screwd up again with the exp. Got today a "wonderfull" 200 exp from an Orrelius Sector borg red alert... go figure:rolleyes:
The game totaly sux right now, all the fun is gone

I noticed that too. And the most rare it seems to be [CrtD]x3. Got 3 or 4 weapons with [Acc]x3, [DMG]x3 and [CrtH]x3 untill I got only one with [CrtD]x3. Very strange.
To me the game is very much fun. I still play it soon as I get the chance to.
About the ships, I'm glad they are tougher and won't die easily. They should be like that since I'm going against a ship same size/class to even larger than my own. So I expect them not to become cannon fodder and like meh next. I'm actually having to use Boff skills where I never had to use before. And making a challenge.
As for the ground, even more fun. They don't sit there and shoot or just run to you. Now they actually act like a real person. So it makes it more a challenge.
For once the game isn't just shoot and move to next. It takes some skill.

Yeah some skill to spam the spacebar till you fingers fall apart... vey much skill indeed.

If that's all that was required we wouldn't see so many whiny posts about how advanced is too hard. And anyone with even half an iq point knows you just put your weapons on autofire so you don't need to span your spacebar.
Simple answer, NO. The most fun I had out of this game was doing PVP. Yes, the very thing ppl claim if removed from the game nobody would notice. Even though everything about this game screams pvp. Other than that the STO name should be erased and renamed Star Trek Ship collector.
I don't understand this "spacebar" thing folks keep harping on. Why in the name of the Great Bird would you bind all your abilities to one key? Particularly one as prone to failure as the space bar?
Far better, I believe, to keep my weapons on autofire, and use my BOff abilities by clicking on them (and saving some of them for a preferred moment - if you have BFAW, you're fighting a single ship, and you know that ship sometimes launches fighters or drops mines, you watch for the telltale and then hit your BFAW at that moment).
I take it you have all your stuff used by space bar alone.
I use all kinds of keystrokes and mouse clicks. For once they are up to the level how I used to play WoW. Where they had far more stuff to use.
Lol i play Wow too, and there is no comparisson, there you get so manye powers and builds that you even need macro sequences, here you need a cruiser with aux2bat and with that you can get the job done by spaming spacebar.

If that's the way you want to play, well, no wonder you get bored.
Try running an escort solo sometime. Gives even the simplest combat some degree of challenge.
