Game unplayable again due to extreme laggs and connection problems. needed 3 mins to load all bars, 2 mins to bring me in cristalline catastrophe map, but server wasn't able to even let me fly to the entity. so i got 2 hours inactivity penality again
How long shall this go on? Until only 300-400 players are left so that severs might run stable again?
go and fix the server problems since DR and do it fast
whole DR except the storyline was a bad joke as you should have noticed by several indicators, but the fact, that players aren't able to even fluently PLAY the game is most ridiculous.
I've had no problems pushing 6 characters through the Ice Race this morning for my Daily Q-Pic Grind. So it doesn't look like Cryptic needs a plan for connecting to their Servers. As to what is causing your problems, without the network diagnostic results, its anyone's guess as to whats causing them...

you want to tell me, that you haven't had connection problems since DR or just that you had a good day?
You really think, cryptic does not have to do something because YOU had no problems yesterday?
These problems appear randomly to random clients since DR. So many people are complaining ingame when they have laggs and every third stf i do, there's at least one person having connection problems since DR. But in the forums they tell, they were able to farm fluently seomtimes for a few hours.

very interesting
If it was a STO Server problem, wouldn't you think that EVERYONE would be having the problem. The fact that I can play with no lag or connection issues shows that this is simply not the case here... The Winter Event and the Elachi incursion are well stocked with players, so I'm not the only user who can connect without issues. The reality is that only a small minority of STO users are having connection issues..
And also keep in mind that Cryptic does not own the Internet, and is not responsible for, nor can they do anything about, issues caused by the decisions that your ISP has made...
I am having the same problems as the OP so I did the network checks along with some follow-up googling...
The problem seems to be one or more internet-nodes run by cogento.com, the latter being an infrastructure-provider which has a very long history of causing problems like lags and disconnections (note: not your ISP). In my case a tracert revealed traffic is routed through nodes in Africa and/or Mauritius, greatly increasing latency. Cogento seems to route incoming traffic which arrives at an American node to an African node and then back to America, where it then continues to reach Cryptic servers. A total of 5 nodes belonging to Cogento where involved in this, with the very first one initiating the problems (no sense in routing traffic to Africa if target is in the US).
You can easily test this by using the tracert command described in the sticky topic in this sub-forum.

Among the recent current events on the Internet, are these suspicious routing issues. Another one is network traffic to Florida being routed via a server located in Iceland. And Traffic between 2 Russian cities also being routed to the same Icelandic server, which happens to be owned by the same China based networking firm...
In the case of Cogent, its actually best to actually post the 'Trace Route' and 'Path Ping' results. Since Cryptic has the STO Servers based in a Cogent Sever farm, they can use the diagnostic results to kick Cogent a few more times to try to get the problems addressed. You can't expect Cryptic to yell at Cogent to FIX IT without providing some information as to what the issue is...

I have had ZERO connection problems since DR, in fact, it's been months since I had any connection problems and those problems were fixed relatively quick.
Post your tracert results so we can help you identify where the problem is happening.
well, since DR is out i know only very few persons that have not had these extreme connection problems to the servers (that makes it impossible to do anything ingame except writing in chat) pretty often. probably they simply were lucky and never were online at the specific times. sometimes using proxy servers is helping, sometimes it doesn't. That may lead to the assumption, that the problem lies in a damaged datalink somewhere between cryptic and the users (although duration of several weeks now makes it pretty unlikely).
If it's really not the cryptic servers, they should think about changing provider cause a provider that doesn't replace damaged (or insufficient) but necessary hardware for several weeks is not a good choice
But i can also imagine that servers are simply overburdened since DR and cryptic is just limiting resources to random clients for limited time in order to keep servers up.
Whatever the reason is, it's a fact, that this problem exists exactly since DR is up...way too long.
so something should be done.
Hi to all ! Just to inform all programmers that STO have alot of problems in the server connections... I got alot of huge lags and alot of disconnections. My connection is PERFECT becouse I play alot of other games for hours without get anything like this... Like World of W.a.r.c.r.a.f.t., for example. My PC is very Powerfoul and all games that I play go very smooth without any sort of hardware problems... so, latest... is your SERVER that have problems... maybe too members on the same server ? Or maybe your server have some hardware problems, is old or broken ? Can you check it pls ? Thanx ! bySpawnPPC

I have had ONE bad day since DR, and that was when there was an announcement HERE in the forums about a PROBLEM that was fixed not too long after it hit. See http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1291661
The rest of the time my ping is under 300. Often, it is less than 200.
The sto server(s?) are fine. They have always been fine, apart from the announced problems which are rare.

they know the problem and i'm not interested in the location. i'm interested in a solution.
