You could just leave sto and head to game that is star trek but hasnt got the name on it and not the ships. But its far far far more closer to star trek than STO.
Just imagine, 400 billion star systems to explore.

Looks ok on my work computer (the videos) but we have a TRIBBLE connection, and the computers are Macs with low specs. I will check them out again when I get home, but the game does look promising. And payday is Monday too...
Yeah I may be able to twist my brother's arm into playing as well. He keeps saying he isn't gonna take my "crack" (meaning MMOs) but he loved Earth & Beyond, and has been playing STO for more than a year now.
They make a wondrous mess of things. Brave amateurs, they do their part.
If STO was Elite Dangerous, it would still be Elite Dangerous, and not STO. Making it a game that isn't actually out yet, and costs £35 to buy and has nothing at all to do with Star Trek beyond space ships....
It's like posting that Neverwinter is the game that Guild Wars 2 should have been, because of swords and magic.....
STO is what it should be, because if it wasn't then it wouldn't be STO but would be another game completely....
Oh and news flash, you may not have realised this, but STO has some players who actually LIKE playing STO... Shocker I know..... Just like you probably like games that I can't be doing with....

How is this star trek related? Right it isn't. Should be in Ten Forward.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
WTF is this TRIBBLE? Where are the big ships? Where are the phaser arrays and photon torpedos? Hell, where are the other players? Dude, this isn't even close to being a trek knockoff, much less trek. Go on and play it if you want, but keep that stupid shut off the forums. This thread will be closed very soon.

Touched a nerve there methinks....? It's just a game... sto however is more of a chore than a game imo.
you cannot compare Elite to STO they are two different games and genre.
Elite has a huge learning curve and is a simulator STO is simply not either of these things, don't forget we have masses of people unable to run a circuit on an ice track how do you expect them to actually LAND a ship.
You are right, i cannot compare ED to STO, not at all. And that wasnt my intention at all. Most people who play STO are fans of Star Trek. Im just pointing out if they actually want to play a game that has the feeling of Star Trek, they should head to Elite Dangerous. Google for it, check youtube, read about.
Im sure you will agree with me, its a lot closer to Star Trek than Star Trek Online.

Well lets just say on a view of a Star Trek fan. Star Trek Online has about 2% to do with Star Trek. If you want somehting similiar that might be what Star Trek is all about, head to Elite Dangerous. Read about it, check youtube etc. Maybe you should watch some Trek and then come back to forums.
The game hasnt even had its 16th december launch date yet. Its all yet to be seen. But how many time have you seen a movie trailer that has some clips that the original movie hasnt. True, its marketing. Time will show how it will end up, but i really got a good feeling about this game.

Lol, do some background search before you come here trolling. Capital ships is what the ED devs are planning to do.
I've followed bits of Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen here and there. I was a fan of the glory days of space combat games during the 1990s and early 2000s.
That said, it's nothing at all like Star Trek combat, unless you're aiming for "Peregrine / To'Duj / Scorpion Simulator."
Also OP, realize that STO only exists due to the IP name. The launch and state of the game was terrible and only survives into today solely because of that name.
Anyways, while there have been many starfighter-based games in gaming, stuff showing combat with capital ships is another.

Will I meet omnipotent aliens that will put challenge my right to exist / freedom or my morals?
Will I visit an a popular holiday resort and meet time traveling aliens that want a lost artifact?
Will I beat a manicial robot/computer with a logic puzzle it can't solve?
No, STO doesn't have much of that either, but at least it has Star Trek space ships and species. And "tall ship" combat.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
Elite Dangerous is missing a lot of stuff, its hardly a game and more like a technology demo.
Sure it has 400 billion procedurally generated systems.. know what that means? Boring. There are only so many variables you can put into that equation, after you view your 300th system.. thats got all the same elements as the first 10, what now?
There is little to nothing to do in ED. You can fly around and explore, hunt bounties, run cargo and.. uh, ya. There is no story, no content, nothing. You can't get out of the ship, you can't do anything on the ground.. and they really don't plan on letting you. They do plan on making massive space stations you can walk around in and.. explore, sounds kind of boring. No guilds, economy, property ownership, the game is nothing more than a demo.
Watch youtube, you'll see every video is exactly the same thing, that thing might be awesome, but.. how much of one thing can you do?
I wouldn't consider this until it has
Fleets/Guilds/Corporations (with a purpose)
Property, with 400 billion everyone can stake their own claim of a system and start a business
Story or at the very least systems with reoccuring missions that you can play
Since none of those seem even close to planned, I don't see this game going anywhere. I'd really love it if they did, but the devs are fixated on massive spaces and exploring those empty massive spaces.
No, you do not get to post a thread that's a plug for another game in the STO discussion thread.

But hey, we all have our own ways.
Thank you for that, you really did make me chuckle there. Not least your assumption that I've never watched Star Trek, and am not a Star Trek fan. Odds are I've watched more Trek than you've had hot dinners fella, been nearly 40 years old and growing up with TOS on BBC2, then Next gen etc etc.
Do keep telling yourself though that only you know the "truth" about what Star Trek is about, whilst for me, Star Trek is about whatever the writers wanted that particular episode to be about, but with a constant theme of equality and acceptance of those different to yourself, including understanding that others may not have the same beliefs as yourself but can be equally as right.
Get a ship, buy some fish, plot a course to some planet that wants to buy fish. Fly there. Sell the fish, buy some fuel, buy some minerals they sell there, plot a course to some planet that wants to buy minerals. Fly there. Sell the minerals, buy some fuel and a new laser, buy some textiles they sell there, plot a course to some planet that wants to buy textiles. Fly there. Sell the textiles, buy some fuel, buy some grain they sell there, plot a course to some planet that wants to buy grain. Fly there....
And once in a while a Pirate might attack you for your cargo. And once in a while you might take a bounty and go attack a pirate to make some credits. Or maybe you want to go and fly around an asteroid to mine some ore. With your ultimate goal to buy more weapons, a bigger ship, etc. And all the time hoping no one kills you and you have to start over.
Sim games are for people who like mindless activities with no story. ED and SC's fans will be current Eve players. Others might give it a try but then they will be back to an RPG in a month or two when they realize there is no story, the game is full of nerd raging pvpers, and no one told them about insurance until after they had lost their second ship.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Well, if you don't know either, make sure to report on this when it's out: If it has any of those, I think I'd be interested.
Especially if they found a way to generate this procedurally, so tomorrow I might encounter a Trelane/Q like alien, but the next time an Organian-like or a Cytherian-like alien.

Get a ship. Scan this. Kill that. Scan this. Beam down here. Scan this. Run there. Scam that. Run back Kill that. Read this. Scan that. Scan this. Fly there... you might have a seizure in this through sheer repetitive boredom.. sound familiar?

Any ground action or just space...Thanks anyway....looks really cool and alternative as well:D

Elite Dangerous is a good game, but it's no Star Trek. Also, your signature has a spelling error in it, it makes you look silly.
Not STO, doesn't belong in STO General.

They are planning to add ground and the option to fly your ship to planet. Just imagine all those 400 billion starsystems to be explored.
