Please be patient with me... I will try to describe the events in detail as best as I remember them.
Last night in the midst of a toon swap I got kicked back to the password screen while the character was loading. Not the first time it happened but it was the first time it happened last night.
So I just type my password and... well... wait. I kept waiting for a good 10 - 15 mins while it went to the character loading screen it kicked me back to the password screen. At first thought the server went down so I checked the forums and saw nothing being posted for 10 mins.
I decided then to relaunch STO. I closed it down and launched it, I got STO thru ARC but did not and have not used the ARC launcher for a while... just been using the STO launcher. The screen comes up and usually it shows the latest event but this time it just showed the stock STO picutre just like the one used at the top of the forums with NO server status... not even a red or green light indicated the status of the server BUT it did patch and the ENGAGE button did show. So I clicked on it and got to the Cryptic screen but got no downloading bar like usual. After about a couple of mins or so it exited with 2 pop up screens.
One saying
Fatal Error: Unable to initialize on-demand patching and connect to Patch Server: The connection was idle to foo long
And the other saying
Oops! Your Cryptic Application has crashed. To help, please indicate what was going on at the time of the crash, while we gather information
So I did fill out the text box and click submit but the first time I didn't write down the Error ticket ID number.
So I tried again and got the EXACT same result up to the Oops screen but this time I wrote down the ticket number 14178516.
At that point in time it was late so I decided to shut down my laptop and try again this morning. Got the EXACT same result so 3 back to back crashes with the 3rd Error ticket ID being 14178516 which in typing this I noticed is the SAME number as the 2nd error ticket ID.
I am hoping to get some assistance from the Devs and possibly others who have come across this problem. I have encountered this ONCE before but that was approx 1 year ago when I first started possibly 2 times.
I really hope there is something I just need to do on my end but other than that my laptop is working normally and it's the same laptop I've used for the past year to play STO.
I appreciate any help in advanced from the Devs or from other Captains.
I had the same thing happen to me yesterday 0555 hrs. have not been able to log in to sto since.
have been in contact 2x with game master, Mr. Raheron. tried all the things he said still no success.
Closest thing I can come up with is a link about game pref.pref. according to the link it says that my graphics card setting may have been changed by me. But I would not even risk such a move without proper help. I can remember the link I was at but I am still waitting on Mr. Raheron to get back to me a 3rd time. I seems to me, and im no expert programer, but its time to be focusing on the Cryptic application file. Since that is where We get froze up all the time where it does not respond.
On the other hand just before that ARC did and up date. I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO LOG IN SINCE.

It appears that the login servers are down as of 1100 PST. Be patient, folks: there's a pretty big storm slamming the area right now. Could be a glitch with their connection, could be a power failure, could be any of a number of issues.

This seems to be a common problem in most of the results I've seen, there is something in between Cryptic and the people affected (sometimes happens to me too). Cryptic might see the same latency on affected users connections, but it isn't happening because of their servers. It appears to be a problem with the altas.cogentco.com network, which is weird because when I run a whois on those 154.54.x.x IP addresses it comes back with PSINet, which went bankrupt years ago and was bought by Cogent Comm, which shows up in the current results, but they only run a small slice of the 154.54.x.x range, with the rest of it belonging to the African Network Information Center, on the island of Mauritius, east of Madagascar.
It's unlikely there's a problem with traffic trying to go to Africa, it's more likely that Cogent Comm is throttling traffic along their network, and doing google searches on 'atlas.cogentco throttle' and 'slowdowns' and other permutations of the the concept brings back hundreds of thousands of results of gamers noticing the same latency issues.
Until the FCC creates clear rules regarding having a free, open network, regulated as a utility similar to phones, water, and power, companies that have no relation to either party involved can and will impose their will against us.
I have done the cmd.exe but have NO idea what this means
It's a traffic report of the stops along the internet that your computer makes in its connection to another computer. 192.168.x.x is your computer, the next few numbers are hard to decipher without a whois search, but Telus owns most of those connections (and the same weird issue with the 154.11.x.x problem of a company owning a small slice over the overall ip range that the AfriNIC owns.) They're lower level networks for your neighborhood, area, and then Telus's announcement of their ownership. From there your connection travels along the atlas.cogentco.com network until it reaches Cryptic. As I said above the problem is probably out of Cryptic's hands, and yours and your ISP's. The problem is being caused by Cogent Comm.

Also Telus is my ISP.
It says your Modem/Gateway is showing a 1.8 second network latency. Less then 20 ms would be the expected value...
Reboot your Modem/Gateway and see if this improves the condition. If it doesn't you should contact your ISP Technical support and have them send someone out to take a look at the unit...

That delay would give him some latency, but not 10-15 minutes. That's only explainable by stops 13 and 14 where the request timed out.
I was able to log on last night so I believe the issue is solved?
Will have to monitor it for sure but had no issues one people were able to log in... the strange thing was that it happened the night before maintenance.

Without any network diagnostic results, its anyone's guess as to what is causing your problems...
