I would like to re-iterate the point above. This "immersion" is not included in Elite: Dangerous. I use Voice Attack as well, and have it set up to initiate commands in STO and play a sound bite from ST to confirm the command. Well worth the 8 bucks.
I'm sure its great... have to ask though what exactly do you have it do for you in STO.
I ask cause I just got a good chuckle, someone really needs to make a video with it in STO.
"Space bar engaged, Commander"
"Space bar engaged"
"Space bar engaged"
"Space bar engaged"
"Delta Rising is the best expansion ever"
"Space bar deactivated"
"You will love Deltar Rising commander all the players do"
I'm sure its great... have to ask though what exactly do you have it do for you in STO.
Commands that may be useful are divert power to shields, weapons and so forth, as well as fire all weapons I suppose. Those are about the only commands I find useful. I suppose you could throw "full impulse" in there as well, but it gets tiring.
Unless they are paying you to moderate the forums... I'm not sure why you care.
Since even the Moderators do not get paid to moderate the forum, yet they still care, your point is somewhat pointless.
At the end of the day laws and rules are there for the betterment of all of us - no matter how important or unimportant you might believe any particular rule is. It is each person's responsibility to safeguard and uphold the rules and laws we live by - and thus the entire basis for Good Samaritan Laws, Duty to Rescue statues, not to mention a whole slew of personal philosophies such as "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."
Thanks for wondering, though.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Nice! Played the original on the commodore 64, and loved playing Frontier Elite on my old 486. I am so looking forward to Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen as well! Not to mention throwing occulus rift into the mix
ED Is a mmo. Fixed the misconception for you there.
Like say a GW2 there is no sub this is true.
So far in there shop there is paint jobs for your ships... not sure what else they will add. I believe they are trying to do like anet though and have a cash shop that mostly sells looks and not power in game.
The game is always online and you can choose to play in pure pve instances... which does reduce some of the feeling of say Eve where there is no escaping other people. That can be both good and bad... time will tell there. Still anything that changes any thing that is put on the market ect is all player driven its all "live" its a MMO.
This is from there own wiki...
"The game features a shared persistent galaxy server, where macro effects and events such as economy, society and war status etc are recorded.
The are no multi-player lobbies.
The server transparently creates free roaming sessions (instances) when meeting other players and NPCs within that galaxy based on a perception bubble around you, that is defined by your scanner/visual range. That means that those instances are not a fixed location in space as in most other MMOs, but they dynamically move around.
The effects of those instances are then stored on the central galaxy server and shared by everybody."
They built it that way so the game can have both a standard MMO world as well as a faster twitch style combat system with out having to slow systems down like Eve or have heavily force instanced zones.
I too am excited about Elite Dangerous. But before everybody starts thinking that the Devs over there are better than the ones over here, it should be known that they have already pulled out of a very major pledge commitment of making the game available offline, in addition to refusing to refund the people who pledged due to that promise. (A Cryptic/PWE culture in the making?)
Despite making millions and millions more than they were asking for on kickstarter, they claimed they did not have enough money to create both an online and offline version of the game (despite promising it from the start).
So its not all milk and honey, and the game has not even been released yet, who knows what other disappointments lay in store?
I said it's not an MMO in the same sense that STO used to be. And the gameplay will still boil down to flying around, blowing things up and cutting up asteroids to earn money to buy better ships to do more of the same. I dare you to suggest otherwise. I've been following it as well. And I do intend to buy it. And I will probably play it in place of STO.
But I do not expect it to be the messiah of online games.
You just described the truth of every online game. I don't think anyone expects it to be a "messiah" not sure what that means really. Every MMO is the same. Start with some stuff, grind away earn some better stuff, so you can do the grinding faster or with more style so you can earn more stuff that does the same stuff even better then the old stuff did. Then get to a point where you have it all... and frolic and be happy. Until the developer releases more stuff to do with your stuff that will require you to earn even more stuff.
This is why for me MMOs have to do 1 of 2 things really well... and best case they do both really well.
1) Provide me really great multi player things to do that are challanging and fun to do, that I would have a good time doing even if there was no "Perfect Carot" piece of gear at the end of the fun. (yes good raids / 3-6 man content) Stuff worth doing cause its fun and not just cause I need to finish a grind. (even games that have great duo type things to do can be 10x more fun then doing the same stuff solo)
2) Provide me a great PvP experienced... where I can have fun with other players. Shooting at them and along side them. There are many ways to make this work.
With those 2 requirements for me to have a good time in a game... it becomes clear STO isn't really it anymore. #1 the pve content isn't really challanging or all that fun anymore #2 the pvp is terrible in sto right now.
Will ED be better in either case... not sure yet. I'll try it out like you. I hope it is better in both regards, we'll see though. Nothing will ever kill STO off completely from the outside anwyay. Trek has to much of a fanboy following for that to happen. Only thing that will kill STO will be Cryptic... who somehow don't seem to realize that most people are just like me even if they don't really know it. At some point they see the MMO game for what it is a place to grind stuff to do stuff that only gets harder cause you need to get better stuff. In the end the only thing that makes them worht playing is the fun you can have with other players in either co-op or vs modes.

Honestly I have no idea why they ever said that was going to happen. Not sure how they (or anyone thought it was possible) to make a MMO that could be played offline. What a patently stupid idea to be honest.
As far as pledge returns. I'm sorry but any of these kickstarter game things... nothing is written in stone, there games in development. If you pledged its cause you had faith in the developer and where willing to support there art.
Really if you pledged based on one feature you shouldn't have been pledging anything.
Myself I applaud them for NOT returning pledges. Frankly letting people that donated money try and strong arm a developer into doing what they want instead of what they believe is best for the game by pulling money donated long ago would have been a very bad move. What would be next all the people that didn't want X or Y in the game or are upset that Z didn't make the final cut will also all try and force there stuff in game by asking for there money back. Good on them for saying NO.
99% of the people that asked for refunds would have played the stupid game regardless anyway... it is just like the people here that say. "I play but I don't spend money so HA" Its silly.

Not really a stupid idea no. The orginal Elite and Frontier sequel packed in a huge galaxy with a ton of things to do on few tiny floppy discs. The economy and different factions reacted based on your own actions (similar to the Elderscrolls franchise)
As far as pledge returns. I'm sorry but any of these kickstarter game things... nothing is written in stone, there games in development. If you pledged its cause you had faith in the developer and where willing to support there art.
No one said it was set in stone. In fact I made the point that people should not be raving about the game until they know all of the developers intentions, particularly because they reversed a decision about something very important to alot of pledges.
Really if you pledged based on one feature you shouldn't have been pledging anything.
Says you. Opinions are like arseholes, everybody has one.

Applauding a business for going back on a pledge is pretty stupid dont you think? Its attitudes like this that got us where we are now with Cryptic.
What would be next all the people that didn't want X or Y in the game or are upset that Z didn't make the final cut will also all try and force there stuff in game by asking for there money back. Good on them for saying NO.
Yes... whatever next... people paying money for something that is promised, and actually expecting to get it. What a world we live in! Kickstarter games are not like published games. They do not exist without public money to back them.
99% of the people that asked for refunds would have played the stupid game regardless anyway... it is just like the people here that say. "I play but I don't spend money so HA" Its silly.
99% eh? sure. (points back towards the opinion comment)
While I have tested it myself, my only problem with it is it requires some more work!
Everything works pretty smoothly, except when activating command(s) that require the use of alt/shift/cntrl.
It tends to activate the assigned #1-0 first, before it applies the use of alt/shift/cntrl so, be warned.
If the skill requiring the use of alt/shift/cntrl is called for twice than it will activate but, not before it activates the base # first.
Now if the # skill corresponding to the # requiring alt/shift/cntrl is already active, than it will immediately apply the alt/shift/cntrl + # of the correct skill being commanded in the first place.
So, while not perfect and, requiring some significant setup to try and eliminate my example issue, otherwise it is easy to use and, actually damn useful imo.
Not really a stupid idea no. The orginal Elite and Frontier sequel packed in a huge galaxy with a ton of things to do on few tiny floppy discs. The economy and different factions reacted based on your own actions (similar to the Elderscrolls franchise)
You can't make a MMO and then allow it to be a Single Player RPG as well... it was a crazy stupid idea. To be honest it was one of the reasons I didn't throw money into the game. I saw that and the first thing I thought was "what a bunch of BS" I'm not sure when they decided it was a bad idea, and to be honest that they thought it was a good idea ever does make me a bit iffy about them I'll give you that.
No one said it was set in stone. In fact I made the point that people should not be raving about the game until they know all of the developers intentions, particularly because they reversed a decision about something very important to alot of pledges.
Yea fair point. Its one of the things I don't like about the kickstarter super early access to the game stuff either. I did around a year of beta testing for Bio on TOR and that was different cause some of the cool stuff I saw in beta that never made the final cut was just "beta" stuff it wasn't stuff Bio went out publicly and said look at this cool thing where planning to do. (like for instance you could battle over and flip planets at one point in beta) Being a closed beta there was no big Give be back ma money when they decided it was to much to make it work, or that it didn't.
Applauding a business for going back on a pledge is pretty stupid dont you think? Its attitudes like this that got us where we are now with Cryptic.
Sure its my fault. No let me tell you whos fault it is... its all the people that keep playing this game even when there annoyed to all heck. They use the excuse of "I play but I don't spend money anymore" ... there the main issue. Cause they keep earning there D and they won't spend money so they sell there D to the whales. Because of them you can come in as a whale plunk down your $$$ and have all the D you want cause someone is so mad there selling there D for zen.
Yes... whatever next... people paying money for something that is promised, and actually expecting to get it. What a world we live in! Kickstarter games are not like published games. They do not exist without public money to back them.
99% eh? sure. (points back towards the opinion comment)
There was nothing promised anywhere. They where all announced possible features... there was plenty of fine print that stated the game was in developement and the game was subject to change ect ect ect.
IMO yes it was announced as an online game long ago... only fault here is that of Braben who seems to be a type that wants to please everyone most of the time. Unlike Roberts who is trying to do the same though at least he seems to hit reality here and there and make decisions. Like X or Y has to wait or in this case... offline mode is going to make it harder to sell online mode.
As it is I'm not really still sold on the way hes doing the Online where you can choose to basiclly not meet other players if you want. I know most people don't want it to end up being a twich version of EvE where more casual players run away, still just a little worried that the actual PvP space MMO feeling will get lost cause of it. We'll see he talks about finding a balance on that front... I hope they pulled it off.
I know we'll both be there and try it out. As far as the 99% number your right out my backside... lol I think my point is valid though. All those "I wanna refund" people there not going anywhere they'll be playing the game, they where just trying to push for there feature, tried to use there donations as leverage. Also just a small thing... ED was well on the way to being completed with out kickstarter. Most people here are likely not big fans of the coaster games but there studio has made more then a few games and has investors. Unlike its vapor ware compeditor. I think the Kickstarter was just a way to get a nice push and make sure there out well ahead of them. (not that I think there was ever a chance of that anyway... and yes just one backsides opinion)
Differences aside. It seems ALOT of sto players will trying out Elite dangerous. I have received mails (both in and out the game) from old players, fleet members, and friends. It is also being talked about alot at ESD and winter wonderland - it seems it has captured the attention of a large amount of people.

No doubt. I think where all hopeful that it can be a great game. I know it seems you where a bit peaved about the no online thing. I was honestly happy to hear he dropped the idea. We can disagree on that of course. You have a point no doubt, I'm sure if they talked about doing it they where consdiering it. Of course some great single player games like Elite (even the old Elite) have been around just like it. Still I would rather have a more accessible twitch combat version of Eve then a new version of deadspace / freelancer myself. Not that games like that aren't great.
We'll see I don't expect it will make major dents in regards to the Trek RP element. When we all admit it its the RP of it all that keeps most of us around for STO. I mean if you remove the IP and replace everything with generic designs would we all still be so loyal to the games core ?

Personally never wanted to bother with Eve because I hate pvp due to the attitude I've seen with almost every pvp'er I've ever run into. I've been waiting for a long time for a decent Freelancer like game to come along, as I really enjoyed that one and had really hoped more would have been done with the multiplayer aspect of it. E:D (according to a friend who played the previous Elite titles) is probably just what I'm looking for, and from following the development as much as possible I think he's right.
As for why we're all here... For me it's the ship combat and the few good friends I've made here. RP has nothing to do with it at all lol. I don't want to be Kirk, Picard, Janeway, or...well as far as I'm concerned those were the only real Trek Captains and I barely only include Janeway because she had the ship. All she really did was muddle her way around the delta quadrant causing the problems we are now fixing in DR....way to go Janeway. Hell get right down to it IF I was going to relate to anything star trek, I'd be a Klingon considering my Infantry and Armor past.
So for me, yes you could strip the Trek from the game, replace it with generic names, symbology, and ship designs and I'd probably still be here.

Yeah right Sisko isn't a real captain? Lol Picard begged Q, Sisko punched him out. Picard was the reason for Wolf 359, While Picard was sipping Earl Grey, Sisko was taking on Klingons, Cardassians, Crazy Bajorans, The Maquise, Shapeshifters, Vorta, Jem'Hadar, and the Breen, and dragged in the Romulans kicking and screaming. Oh did I mention he beat a demonic demigod like space Adolf.

Sorry, I see Sisko as more of a ground commander. Sure there was the occasional jaunt about in the defiant, but lets face it, he flew a desk most of the time.
lol I think its clear the Trek will be strong with this game for a long time to come. With passion like most of you have for trek Cryptic could release what ever junk they like.
Sorry, I see Sisko as more of a ground commander. Sure there was the occasional jaunt about in the defiant, but lets face it, he flew a desk most of the time.
Flew the desk? As in leading 600 Ships? Broke through a massive blockade, and prepared to single handedly take on 2800 dominion ships? AR - 558? Chin'toka? Led the Bell riots? Hijacked a JHAS, and did I mention he walked out of hell a god?
Because as design, all we will be doing is flying ships and blowing stuff up, then taking the loot back to a space station, sell it, repeat until we have enough to buy a new ship so we can do it all over again. it's just a dogfight sim with a massive galactic map.
Once the novelty of that wears off, I think we'll see all sorts of variations of threads that amount to "400 billion star systems = 400 billion opportunities to repeat the same thing over and over."
Only time will tell.
i condensed it for you but well said ...it you really look at it at its core that all it really is plus....you care bears do understand its open world pvp right ??? so when sombody takes your lunch money ....dont start cryin

Flew the desk? As in leading 600 Ships? Broke through a massive blockade, and prepared to single handedly take on 2800 dominion ships? AR - 558? Chin'toka? Led the Bell riots? Hijacked a JHAS, and did I mention he walked out of hell a god?
i condensed it for you but well said ...it you really look at it at its core that all it really is plus....you care bears do understand its open world pvp right ??? so when sombody takes your lunch money ....dont start cryin
