Elite Dangerous Voice Pack, This is coolness!

hawkwing43hawkwing43 Member Posts: 1,701 Arc User
The one thing I find missing in STO is an interactive computer voice.

I found this on another game I am following, Elite Dangerous, they have a voice pack now, and it's so so cool.

Have a look.

In the gaming industry, this is called immersion.

And I thought all the asteroids in STO were bad. :D
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

I'd recommend it, I got in on the Kickstarter and am still drooling in anticipation of the final release! Alpha was mind blowing, Beta is more fun than you can shake a stick at!

Played the original on the C 64, the second on a 386 win 3.11 pc and the third on a P90.

Trek was my first Si-fi infatuation, Elite was my first immersive gaming love.

Not sure which will be getting the most of my time, but I have a suspicion that it will be Elite, with all the latest $$$ grabbing in Ex 2. At least with Elite you pay to play, here you pay to pay...

I've also left Sto. Enough is enough imho. I'm still a trekkie and for me, that's why I've had to leave. I've joined Elite Dangerous to play a scientifically realistic game where I can explore the galaxy, battle, trade and get an awesome ship. That was exactly the same reason I joined Sto years back. Here's my post from ED forums of my brief opinion:
    Hello everyone.

I have to admit that I'm a Sto veteran. Built up over 17000 accolade points and to put that in perspective for people who haven't played, you can hit the top rank from about 2500 accolade points. As the number increases, it becomes more and more difficult to find the remaining accolades / invest the amount of time to complete them. I played since just after launch, have loads of ships with well thought out consoles, engines, shields, everything - literally! Even programmed 112 voice macros and on Sto that's rare, glad to see its so massive on Ed! Back to the macros for me! Haha.

My opinion on Sto now is fairly negative when compared to ED. I like star trek for its theoretical physics... So why is the game so flat/ 2 dimensional. Why are all the ships, shuttles, stations and planets ridiculously out of scale? ED is spot on in this regard.

Combat - contrary to some people's views, I actually enjoy the combat, it takes skill and intelligence to build an effective vessel and use it well. ED though can be summarised in one word - wow! It's amazing. The control of the ship is one key factor that blew me away when I first played in ED beta.

One thing Sto has is good graphics and they're developing more worlds that are interesting and unique but very constricted. You can't explore as such, so again I have to think that ED will be better next year even for FPS, to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before...

    Oh! 1 sec! Lol

the only immersive part about the video was when the pilot asked ASTRA to boost ship speed and she complied. The rest is just someone reading from a dictionary of stellar facts. They may be including fictional stuff like "M-class palnet", but it's still just a dictionary., er, encyclopedia.

    Immersion? No. Neat? Hell yeah.

I have Elite: Dangerous, and Voice Attack. I'm noting to people wanting to try this voice pack, you must first have Voice Attack, which is $8 (if you want voice commands). It is a speech recognition program in which you can program commands for applications, and games. It is also worth noting though you need to program the commands yourself through keybinds. You can set it to press a certain key when you say a certain word or phrase.

I have not bought this voice pack yet, but I will be getting it. It would be a great addition to Elite: Dangerous, and Voice Attack.

Just a wild thought but it would have been really cool if STO's shuttle gameplay used a first person cockpit overlay and different mechanics than standard space combat.

I'm still going back and forth on Elite, I have a friend who plays it and it's really cool.. but man is it complicated.

I don't know if I would get into it, seems like it would take forever to learn to play.

I still might pick it up though, the way STO is going I'm burning out fast and looking for something less grindy.

Well, you can start with the fact that it is a zombie thread that was raised past the 30 day cutoff. :)

    That isn't a term of service. :)

30 days is also a guideline not a rule. Its not like this is a year old thread or something. They only pull things at 31 days if its a thread the didn't like to start with. lol

The 30 day limit is listed in the Rules section at the top of the forum, and thus is not just a guideline.

My guess is "hope" keeps people not playing but posting on the forums. For others, its a path of sad realization and closure. Grieving takes time. The worst "haters" here love the game, or did at some point.

I would like to re-iterate the point above. This "immersion" is not included in Elite: Dangerous. I use Voice Attack as well, and have it set up to initiate commands in STO and play a sound bite from ST to confirm the command. Well worth the 8 bucks.

The person who raised this thread from zombie land also raised one there using the exact same post - which is Spamming and breaking another rule. :)
