Simple little game here... there is only 1 rule. Only make 1 reply per answer...

The question that you need to answer is (answer with what you would change, add, remove or design in the game):

If I were a Star Trek Online GM or Developer I would.........

If I were a developer of Star Trek Online.......

I would make space more unpredictable with things like supernovas, black holes, worm holes, new planets, and even make it where the borg can attack home worlds like Earth and Qo'noS.....

I would get rid of the Kazon. Seriously, they are nothing more than Klingons who never comb their hair.
I completed a 2-man CSE, ISE, and KASE, Optionals included. And I soloed Winter Invasion.

If I was an STO developer, I would probably curl up in a corner and cry because so much of the playerbase despises me.

If I were a STO developer, I would be playing Delta Rising as it's the best expansion ever and the players love it.

I would also get rid of Reputation. The old Task Force Omega system was much better.

If I was a developer, I would bring in customization updates for once. This game prides itself on customization, yet we have not had an improvement to any species' customization options of ages.

If I were a STO developer, I'd never come near the forums. Multiple people making multiple entitled demands, in terms that would embarrass a 5-year-old with their immaturity, which if implemented would be so multiply contradictory as to utterly destroy any computer programmed with such directives. (Not to mention how they would utterly ruin the gameplay experience for everyone, including the people demanding them.)

    If I were a dev...

Truthfully, I like all the mechanics in the game, they just aren't very... condusive to a Star Trek atmosphere. So, I would turn STO into SGO. Stargate Online.

It all works, seeming as they mostly fought things in Stargate, even when exploring.

If I were a STO developer, I would have my creativity limited to what my bosses want in the game. All a dev can do is suggest ideas on where to take STO. It is up to the EP, PWE executives, and department heads on where STO will go not the devs or GMs.

Although being a GM could be a lot of fun if you are chaotic evil or chaotic neutral.

If I where a Star Trek Online developer, I would>

Make my bridge officers carry me on a throne like the Pharaohs traveled on, setting me down only to fight. If my Bridge officers fell, I could fire a palm blast orbital strike that was rapid fire. My opponents would take the damage they dealt along with what I dished out.

My ship would still be the R.R.W. Lupa in appearance, but it would have the size and abilities of the planet killer, the cool down between blasts would be the same for dual beams, plus it could fire 360*.

When ever I beamed down to a location all NPC's and Players character would instantly bow, and respectfully say in a chat bubble, "Empress!"

Every type of currency, including event specific would be maxed out even if I purchased something.

If I didn't feel like finishing a mission I would make an easy button to instantly finish it.

I would make an ice castle on Andoria where I could have my character sing, "let it go," I would also design a dress for the occasion.

Yup, give me a chance to be a goddess and I'll exploit that in a second!!!

      LunaSTO: :)

I love ColonelMarik's ideas. I once came up with a plan myself, which involved making scanning into a task type in itself, alongside "kill enemies", "talk" and "interact".

Basically, you know how in the Federation tutorial, one of the tasks is to scan an injured crewman and take the readings back to the EMH? (Or it used to be, anyway - I haven't done the new tutorial). Having just been introduced to the "V" key tricorder scan, I was puzzled that you didn't use that, but instead a standard "F" interact (the first of many...).

In my idea, it would be - scanning would be a separate type of task. Pressing V would enter "scan mode", just as B switches on "shooter mode". As in the series, there'd be different types of scan, depending on what type of tricorder you have equipped - it would be up to the player to work out what type would be useful in a situation. For instance, a scan for lifesigns would show figures superimposed on the view, like an infra-red camera; a Mk I tricorder would just show that they were there, a Mk IV might add colours indicating temperature and pulse rate (based on the NPC's species), a Mk VI would identify common species itself and detect their HP status. A medical tricorder would show a figure, similar to the "injuries" window. And so on. Similarly you'd fit various sensors to your ship.

That would make exploration exciting again, too. At the moment, if there are new and unfamiliar things in a place, the only way to tell the player what they're like is through dialogue boxes, which are a bit boring. So the usual thing is that when you visit a strange new world, you find familiar things there, which you then shoot. But if you can explore for yourself with your tricorder, that changes.

Hmm, I can see how this could end up actually being bigger than combat if you let it... but why not? I don't know any other MMORPG that does something like that, so it'd be a unique selling point.

But if that's too ambitious at this time of day, then I'd get me a playable Borg cube and come whizzing by every now and again and dare the players to fight me. There's nothing like a real live GM villain to get people together. (Ever played Underlight?)

This has got to be the best suggestion I have read so far.... especially from a Fed point of view.

Having said that, If I were a Dev, I would add the option to "Skip" the ground component of a mission... After all, what happened to the regulation of Captains can't join an away team, or the answer to said regulation of "Captains Prerogative"?

I'm all behind that too (and grandnaguszek1 who said much the same thing. Do I see a theme developing here?) My sciency stuff was mainly meant as part of how to do that.

So humans in the Star Trek universe launched all the idiots on Earth into space to become the humans we know in the 24th Century Federation and the idiots became the Kazon?

If I were an STO Dev, I would ask CBS and PWE to get working licenses for the other aspects for the rest of the franchise (like music and soundtracks). Then reduce the factions to just the United Federation of Planets.

Klingon Defense Force and Romulan Republic players are special representatives of their governments acting autonomously with Starfleet or just stalking Federation units to keep an eye on what they are doing. They are the only ones who get access to unique items from their homeworlds. This also includes Andorian, Cardassian, Vulcan, and Dominion players. All of these "groups" just want someone to be present at every hotspot Starfleet is involved in, since each of their governments wants a say in those incidents. No all-out total war. Just constant one-upsmanship everywhere.

I would make a tower defense endgame sub game. I imagine tactical towers where you could equip ship weapons and tax consoles, engineering walls with high defense, meant to block the invaders, and science towers to support with rifts and temporal distortions. The game mechanics are already there for it, and could add a whole new type of strategy to the game. I feel the gearing of the towers would be important and also put some money into the game. There could be multi player ques, where each player needs to defend and make sure baddies at point a don't get to point b. I think this addition would not need too much programming, most of it is already there. I can dream can't I?

The possibilities of my idea are limitless, towers with special tower console slots that increase firing range, damage, and defensive capabilities of walls... I don't want to sit here and get too into detail but an update like this would mean I'd have to get a life time membership.

My guess is "hope" keeps people not playing but posting on the forums. For others, its a path of sad realization and closure. Grieving takes time. The worst "haters" here love the game, or did at some point.

I would redo the Romulans to be a 'real' third faction separate and distinct as promised, with 2 smaller sides contained the RSE and something similar in theory to the republic but a bit less hand waving in terms of the writing. I would get rid of the mustache twirling upturned cape, 60's villan trope that became the Tal'shiar story in the game and replace it with something more believable. Perhaps in the RSE two career options, the first to be in the Star empire navy/armed forces or the second being the Tal'shiar choosing to rebuild the Tal'shiar from the ground up akin to Director Phil Coulson rebuilding S.H.I.E.L.D. after the events of The Winter Soldier. Or for those that choose to break away totally, the option in a storyline to build a new colony But with less of a rebel alliance/firefly western influence to it and more of a technological society maybe even using selective and careful cloning procedures to help augment the populating of a new planet/planets.

Lastly tovan would be spaced by the Borg after they final found someone worse then the Kazon. :P

But seriously his character would be rewritten in a heart beat, to be a less whiny wannabe Luke ("Wesley crusher") skywalker who has no real character flaws and seems to be more plastic than a Barbie and Ken doll.
