JavaScript problem

Okay, ever since the season 9 update, my launcher only work about once a week. After opening it through Arc, Steam, or just the original download, it almost never works. Immediately after logging me in, it crashes saying:

Fatal Error: JavaScript exception: Uncaught ReferenceError: $ is not defined

What does this mean and how do I fix it? I've tried completely removing the game, as well as Arc and Steam, then reinstalling, but that didn't work. I've tried opening them as an administrator. I've turned the computer off, then back on again, as well as restarting it. I'm not a computer person and I have no idea what is wrong.

I have encountered javascript crashes when using firefox, version 13 of javascript seems to have a few teething issues atm :P

Maybe un-install javascript, or install an earlier version, see if that helps you at all.

NO. for security reasons DO NOT EVER install a previous version of java or flash.

Uninstall you version of java and head to https://www.java.com and install both the 32bit and 64bit versions of the latest version.

This didn't work. I have tried running the launcher on Arc, Steam, and the original download, but it almost never works. Nothing that has been suggested or that I have tried has fixed the problem.

Okay and P.S. I may not know much about computers, but I'm not stupid... Java is completely different from JavaScript. Script isn't a program, it's how your computer reads codes in programs. Doing anything with Java won't affect it at all.

^^ He's right. Java is a dynamic script used for either games or GUI tools for networkswitches and the like.

Your loader is actualy using couple of IE files to render your loader screen. This includes javascript (for changing rotating pictures, etc).

The question is; do you have IE enabled/disabled, updated or anything blocked?

    Nerf is OP, plz nerf
That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.

    Try clearing your IE cookies.

(Windows Control Panel, Internet Options. General Tab, Browser History, Delete. This will clear IE cookies.)

The Launcher uses IE internally to render its contents. Page assets (Images, CSS, Javascript, etc) are served through a CDN - Content Distribution Network. Sometimes, and for some people, the current server distributing the content goes AWOL, and as a result, some assets may not load, which includes Javascripts.

When you delete cookies, somehow the site understands you have not accessed their website before and directs you to a different CDN server, and then assets will download properly.

    Hope this helps.

I have honestly only used Internet Explorer once, to download Chrome. What would the significance be of have it it enabled/disabled or blocked?

STO Requires the Microsoft HTTP Libraries to be installed in order to perform correctly. The only way to get the Microsoft HTTP Libraries is as part of a IE Installation. If IE is not Installed, or has been removed...

Close... JavaScript is a Standard Browser scripting language that is often used in HTTP Web pages, and is analogous to a Linux C-Shell script syntax, or a DOS Batch file/Command Line interpreter. Now JavaScript can be used to call Java Applets, but its not a requirement for its use...

If you're concerned about security and Java, it's best to remove the entire thing. I uninstalled Java and Flash two years ago and the only problems my computer has had since then have all been hardware related.
