Since Winter Event will start this Thursday, I figure the slow trickle of info will probably begin tomorrow and we will not get all the details until Wednesday just to drag it out right to the very end. The WE ship announcement will be mid day on Tuesday (at the earliest... probably drag that out until late on Tuesday). :P
In the past, that's definitely how it would have likely gone...but we have a new Ministry of Information. We're not likely to get details on anything until players have logged in and started posting about it.

You're pretty optimistic ... considering recent Dev-Blogs ... I would expect some sloppy last time Copy-Paste DEV Blog on Wednesday & no detailed Info about the new ship at all ... if you're lucky shreds of actual Info on Twitter ...

Yep no doubt you have seen through the gimmicks for what it really is lol. They say oh you no like gimmick? We won't even tell you about gimmick before we give it to you then!
BTW love the signature roflmao. *Must drink cool-aid or get jedi mind tricks (those are your only choice)*
Anyone care to take bets on how long you will have to grind for a ship?
More than likely the same as previous years. You can earn 40 pictures of Q every 20 hours. The ship costs 1,000 pictures of Q to acquire. The rest is simple math.
25 for those who don't like to think.

Anyone care to take bets on how long you will have to grind for a ship?
The same as every other Winter/Summer Event ship. 25 times per day doing a 2 minute race.
Here is some advice for the Winter/Summer Event ships to save a ton of time for future ships. Run the event for a few characters and earn 1000 + (n-1) * 40 tokens where n = number of alts running event. So if you have 3 characters, then you need 1080 tokens per character. Run the project on only one character until it is filled. This way you can get the next Summer and Winter Event ship on the day the Event ship becomes available instead of using Lobi or grinding. So if you have 3 characters, then you don't need to grind until 2017 and get the 2015 and 2016 Summer and Winter Event ships on the first day.
Anyone care to take bets on how long you will have to grind for a ship?
It will start by requiring 30 days of solid effort on a single toon for the 28 day event making alt grinds impossible, but with player outrage it will be nerfed to only take 65 days on the basis that everyone has lots of those Q photos anyway.
Then when nobody bothers it will be changed so you only need one quarter as many photos, but you will only get one tenth of the photos you got at the start. It will then change requirements from having photos to having pointy Q hats, and each pointy Q hat will take up an inventory slot. Trying to grind pointy Q hats with a full inventory will make the day's pointy Q hat be auto-deleted and not able to be recovered. John De Lancie will be heard in the background saying "Q is omnipotent, and as such, my hatty gifts are working as intended"
There will be a "trade photos for hats" seller with an atrocious grating voice that sounds like Bernadette from Big Bang Theory, and trying to swap will result in being given bugged Pointy Hats that cannot actually be used in the project, or deleted from their slots. Ever. But luckily, someone will discover that the hats can be eaten by Cannibal Tribbles, athough the carcasses that result can only be used in an R&D project that seems to cost an awful lot of dilithium.
Then because nobody got the ship, the ship will then be made available for sale in the Lobi Store as an upgradeable T5 ship for players who missed out, but to make it fair the grinded ship that was achieved by the odd account that didn't have buggy Q hats will be turned into a tier II ship, that version will be so bugged that any equipment put on it will automatically turn any equipment into Tier II common, and any weapons will disappear from the player's inventory which will only mysteriously reappear by playing Elite STFs in T6 ships. Attempting to use the Winter Wonderland ship will turn the player's ship avatar into a permanently flying Q that looks suspiciously like Johnny Depp from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which will not go away even when changing ships.
The players will then be called whiners for expecting any of it to be fixed. And then it will be called the Best Winter Event Ever.

Better method:
How many Winter/Summer Event ships are available this year?
How many have you unlocked the discount on?
Okay, the difference between those two numbers is the number of characters that need to grind the full 1000 Q-Pics on. If you want an instant ship/discount on day 1 next year, add +1 character to store a stack of 1000 Q-Pics. Once you have the discounts, run the race 3 times with any other characters you want the ships on, especially if the Set provides bonuses you can use.
Then go kill snowmen.
...Unless they decide that we're blowing through the content too fast, in which case:
no discount, and the existing one is removed via a patch
the ship will require Q-Continuum Jawbreakers instead of Q-Pics to negate players planning ahead for the Winter Event (like the recent Bonus Marks Event nerfed Daily Bonus crates to negate folks storing those)
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.

Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...

YOU SIR should be working as a Dev! this explains EVERYTHING i now completly understand all their posts now i have read yours!
Apologies for being a pedant, but one does not HAVE to "grind for a ship".
As per anything in the game, it's only a a grind if you make it one. I, personally, have no interest in said ship whatsoever and will not therefore be griding for it.
I'm not interested in the ship either. All my characters have their shipd and its expensive to upgrade all that ships and gear. I'm also not interested in alien ships. I love o fly the good starfleet ships we know, like Sovereign, Galaxy or Excelsior. My Vulcan SCI is the only one who has an alien ship and this is from the federation home worlds: a D'Kyr.
I'm not interested in the grind. But i love the atmosphere of this special event, especially the winter map, the snow balls. It's different.
It'll probably be 20-25 days for one character, and once they get it, all your other characters can get it by completing the race once.
Then people will complain about how Cryptic hates alts.

...because they found ot how many metric ton's of dilithium they need to bring the equipment for the alt-Ships to mk XIV (not to mention UR or Epic).

From what I heard in another thread apparently they have updated/expanded the map a bit.
I like the winter event, I'm actually looking forward to it. Despite the grind, I simply like hanging out in the winter map, I think it's a nice map. And shooting snowballs at the snowmen is fun as well, of course. Hopefully it will take my mind off all the other things this game has me unhappy about in DR.

Quoted for truth. I know (and appreciate it a lot, seeing as this might be the first time I actually manage to finish up a ship at all ) that the ships only need to be 'properly' unlocked once, but... what's the point if the characters are stuck in the quicksand along with their ships? (Yes, I know the quoted post focuses on upgrades, but I felt specializations needed a mention too.)
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
