I've been told that the STO devs do play the game... many of them just aren't very good at it.
A few years back, I played a couple of STFs with dstahl. KDF side. No logfiles to show dmg/scores, so I can't say too much on that. No complaints from me, though. It was just nice to see one of Cryptic's own in the game, playing like the rest of us. No special gear, insta-kill code tweaks, invulnerability, etc.

a Players vs Devs PvP tourny.

winning player team goes against the winning dev team

    make it so.

We already get enough Player versus Dev action in General every time a new patch comes out. Hell, we had a full on war when Delta Rising released.

Here's a grand idea: How about we have players and devs....actually be nice to each other?

    Revolutionary concept, I know!

Not really. No matter how nice a dev is, there is always a whiner blasting on the forums. Blizzard had their IT staff and community managers working round the clock to get over 7 million people into WoW when it turned out that (and this is ironically hilarious) Blizzard failed to predict how many people were logging in to play Warlords of Draenor. 4 days of queues and wait times. One of the Community managers didn't even go home to BATHE. They all worked to fix the problems and help their players.

And how did these players respond to all of that?

By accusing Blizzard of intentionally scamming them! Oh, the crazy accusations, the armchair developing, the conspiracy theories. Seriously, the rants you'd read over there would make the hobo behind the Olive Garden who screams that HBO has been secretly recording his dance moves to predict the trend of prime time television look like the damn State of the Union address.

Gamers are such butts to developers. Is it any wonder why the indie dev scene is slowly drying up, with new devs being one hit wonders and people setting their Spark projects to private invitation only?

I think on some level, gamers think that gaming will always be here to stay, no matter what happens. But that is not ture. EA will close down. Activision will sunset. Ubisoft will sell off their shares. Gaming can end.

But not if we stop acting like butts and start acting like people. No one has to be an undying loyalist or a brown noser. But ffs, stop calling for people to get fired over a twenty minute server queue or call for bogus lawsuits because you feel you have to buy an optional T6 when you got a free upgrade for your T5.

No one has to be a fanboi. Just be a fan. That means being patient, being kind and giving critique AND credit where it is due.

this is not wow and i think it's about the number of "whiners" how u call em. am i a whiner?! hell no! do i disagree with most decisions made since s6? aye! are there several examples of em kicking off promises they made? yep, there are! are there more people like me? aye. there's a slight difference between "whining" and grounded concerns :P...

if there're a few people ranting on and on, ok. leave em aside. are there whole subcommunities of the game ranting on and on one may should ask "why so?". feedback getting ignored for years now, xcept it gets to a point one may could think the forums are in flames (and ingame numbers low). that seems the only feedback they seem to consider "strongly" (lol)...

Not when there's nothing else to play.

It's sort of like speculatory science fiction back in the 90's. Remember when Star Trek shared the airwaves with countless other sci-fi shows like Battlestar, Star Gate, Farscape, etc? And everyone was getting sick of it. Now most of those shows got cancelled and we live in an era where science fiction is essentially dead in the water on television? Right now, all we have is Defiance. Revolution: cancelled. Almost Human: cancelled. Warehouse 13: cancelled.

You can't find a light hearted show about the future anymore. Hell, even Doctor Who is a depressing sight these days.

But hey, at least Sliders is off the air, huh? For the good of broadcast television.

    :(

How would EA dying benefit video gaming at this point? You don't have to be a Vulcan to notice how irrelevant they are. All their games for the past couple years have been packed with bugs at launch and have virtually all their features cut in order to be sold as DLC later even though the base game itself is $60.

No, it wouldn't. EA shutting down doesn't do anything for videogaming. It just means a big dev dies. Doesn't mean that anyone is going to be wanting to take their place if it puts a target on their back.

have to drop some more on that part:
the pattern is clearly visible and has been executed several times in the last years. drop something u know players won't be appealed by, watch what happens (ngh rant to rethink?) to finally go a path like "erm... watch: new shinies and free stuff no one asked for yay", just to ignore any feedback given (in the best cases it got "tweaked" lmao) lol.

It's not fallacious when it's true. To go from blowing up the CM and engaging in good natured zone chat ribbing to suddenly being banned just long enough to miss out on the rest of the CM pvp events is pretty damning.

It's not the first time you leveraged your position to shut down people you don't like. One of us was trying to get in contact with you about a community giveaway event we were running and hoping you'd give us some word of mouth. Instead you placed him on ignore and just laughed and told others to ignore him in channel when people were telling you he was trying to contact you. And later during the event, when he dared to vote on which map to go to next, he was banned for 24 hours with no reason given.

You were a terrible CM and I'm glad you're gone.

But you know what? I guess it doesn't matter now does it? By being allowed to visit their studios Cryptic has pretty much signed off on you and your fleet haven't they? They've said in deed what most of us have suspected for years. They're not going to stop you. They're not going to correct you. You won. After long last, you really, really won. STO is yours and no one is going to do a thing about it. Congratulations.

It would get the core group of asshats in E.A. out, or at least spread them out a little and mixed in with more competent people... after what they did to Sim City and Sims 4, I will never buy anything associated with them again. just like i haven't bought anything associated with Attari after they rushed, then cut and ran on STO.

    No question.
Perhaps you should give it a try, maybe we can help you set up some half decent PvP builds!
Every devs vs. players match I've ever seen has gone this way, but they're still fun anyway. It'd make an interesting livestream. Get 5 of the best players on the dev team, pit them against 5 randomly selected players, get Smirk to run commentary (oh wait, STO doesn't have a spectate option...)

Make it Two-Part, the initial PvP then help the devs build PvP ships and then run again and see if it helps!

DEV could code (program) a ship with 100% shielding no drain and use 100% all-weapons damage power no drain, 100% battery life no drain, EPS/PRF set to 1K Full Power. The former game I was playing the CEO was battling one of the top PVP players. They even did a YT showing the CEO ship in battle.

Here they don't do that with players.

I started this thread to get a discussion and interest going in order to engage the dev team to experience what power creep has done to PvP. if they don't play it against players, they don't see the problems there and won't have the proper insight to address it properly.

not so you could lob personal attacks at branflakes. and last time i checked, personal attacks are against the ToS. it's not tolerated in games like EvE, i wouldn't expect it to be tolerated here. I have no interest in dental either way, but they do have a tendency to be central to many such attacks in our community.

honestly... I don't see why people expect PvP "balance" to be stable. It can't remain stable in a game where new stuff comes out periodically.

PVP is mostly dead and has been since they nerfed the rewards. There would be little incentive to participate in a dev vs player match anyway, the devs could just activate their 'dev magic' cheats, like Smirk had to do in his livestreams because he doesn't know how to play the game.

Besides, if I recall, Branflakes' approach/strategy to pvp when things started to get tough for him, was to surround himself with other players acting as his sycophants.

Actually, there are two incidents I remember which had nothing to do with his lack of restraint, maturity or impartiality towards certain fleets.

I don't know for sure, but judging by the typical tactless demeanour of Branflakes, it was he who caused William Shatner to temporarily block the STO twitter from spamming his own twitter with unreasonable demands and unwarrented spam.
    https://twitter.com/WilliamShatner/status/319308043403800576

When Elachi Alert was first released, nobody knew it was going to be just a temporary, limited time stf as Branflakes never bothered to be specific. When players posted asking why it was removed, instead of answering, Branflakes attempted to roleplay in a thread where it was uncalled for and unwanted, the players only wanted a simple answer to their simple question.
    http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=942811

I'm sure there have been others. Regardless, he was a terrible community manager and while CaptainSmirk is rubbish at the game, at least he can answer questions cheerfully and do his best to help, while remaining completely impartial, regardless who or which fleet a player is associated with.

I hope something is done about pvp and the idea of a dev vs player match does have merit, but like I said, there'd have to be some incentive to take part these days.

I think the OP plays FireFall - as they had this event not too long ago. I got 2 Dev kills :D (got killed as well by the 2nd Dev, darn her and her sniper rifle).

But it is not a bad idea, dot a few Devs about in Uber ships, outside ESD / DS9 / New Romulus and Qo'nos.

So, Cryptic Crew, fancy getting some uber bad guys ships and killing a few players before your final demise? :P
