Yes, this is a good idea. The devs can use the super-amazing God gear that they used while testing the new content. You know, the gear that had no problem at all handling Crystalline Entity against an NPC with 15 million hit points.
This will be a very well balanced match, I wonder who will win...
Devs have prototype epic stuff, AND the codes to make things OOBER epic, not to mention drop our stats to nothing.
You're a moron.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.
You do know the Devs have normal accounts without the fancy stuff, they use to PVP with players, and a lot of the times, they got their butts handed to them.
not a fair fight in any case, they don't have time to play as much as players do, or be as obsessive as many of the pvpers are about tactics and builds....they have to work on the game, eat, sleep, take care of family if there is any, etc.
a few games i've played where devs/publishers have run content without cheats, publishers did better (they have more time to spend in game) devs universally tended to lag behind or fail utterly without cheats (in some cases failed utterly WITH cheats). none involved themselves in PvP of any kind...that takes a certain kind of dedication and time to be really good at if tactics count and it's not a skill CD slugfest(gear vs gear/class vs class player skill or positioning doesn't matter).

Not a far match, the Players will wipe the floor with the devs
Every devs vs. players match I've ever seen has gone this way, but they're still fun anyway. It'd make an interesting livestream. Get 5 of the best players on the dev team, pit them against 5 randomly selected players, get Smirk to run commentary (oh wait, STO doesn't have a spectate option...)
a) Wouldn't the Dev team have to become, I dunno, visible again?
b) Wouldn't doing this violate the Statement of Non Communication clause in their contracts?
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.
In DC Universe occasionally a community rep will appear and take on all comers. He's in uber gear, but it's a 1-100 fight for funsies, so it's all good. Having a developer drop into ESD or DS9 space in a tac cube and open up on everyone would be amusing.
As hilariously one sided and educational this would be for some of the things the devs have recently put into the game, I present a far more eloquent solution to the problem that will not be viewed as an ego stroking contest.
No AI tweaks will be needed for this except adding skills to a borg cube.
I would like to see 5 devs, on stream, fight 1 borg cube (adv or elite level hp/dres settings) that has the ability to use Ionic Turbulence 3 + EMP probe any level + evade target lock on the federation only possible timer of 20s per cheese volley. If by the end of this none of the dev's blood pressure has raised significantly, I would be very shocked. Bonus points if the cube has access to Isowincuzipressed1button Cannon.
To me, this would be vastly more entertaining than the umpteenth time we're turned down for devs vs pvpers.
ESD was crawling with drones. You pretty much died the second you beamed in.
"Crawling" is not the right word. "Swarming" is more descriptive.
But when I happened to arrive, I beamed inside a shield bubble some smart engies had set up. The drones were trying to get in like mad and we held our own for a while. It was epic!
Any competent PvPer could obliterate them. All that is up for debate is just how obliterated are we talking, it is why they don't do it. Brandon did PvP mind. (and still does a bit from time to time)
I quite like the Panda suggestion, it would be nice to see them deal with what they've put on Holodeck...
Oh, and don't think we would make them need a full DR meta spec build, there are loads of ways around stuff like that, we PvPers already developed them ourselves. *Points at sig*
I've been told that the STO devs do play the game... many of them just aren't very good at it.
I'm assuming PvP would be included in that assessment.
I would like to see the defs form up a team of 5, get into a Dyson Destroyer, Obelisk Carrier or the Enterprise C each and use EXACTLY the same boff/gear layout you get during that missions. Then they may do ISA & KASA. Upon successful completion of that we get back to the PvP topic shal we?

I'd be up for this. I have a score to settle in game with a particular Dev that beamed into the revamped esd on tribble as a elite tactical gorn drone and promptly shot me in the back lol.
plays quake 2> finds jumps maps> joins> beats the scenario and brags about it with admin on> !gib player> player spontaneously combusts and has to start over. player tries to fly through> admin adjusts gravity from 1.0 to 4.5 during an epic jump streak:P> player hits the deck and combusts on touch :P.
you should know better then to play vs those with tools at their disposal :D
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

I just remembered I still have some screenshots from back then.
And while devs absolutely do try to play (and I think the new product manager guy can make that a focus for himself)...
In addition to working long hours during the week, it's probably pretty essential that the devs play other games so they know what's going on in their field.
Because then they get blindsided with "Hey! WoW just made everything account wide"/"Secret World just let you sell XP"/"TOR is letting you convert logged out alts into companion pets", etc. (all hypotheticals) And it's pretty essential that they do this. They can't just say "That's not how things work here" every time. They need to have a finger on the pulse of their field.
This may sound really absurd on some level but I almost think they should have a PWE team of staffers who are paid to play all the non-PWE U.S. market MMOs and compile competition analysis reports to be distributed to all of PWE's developers (Cryptic and otherwise) because the designers need to know what's going on everywhere outside of STO (and even knowing what's going on inside STO is a beast).
Or maybe develop a bonus system for developers who can file specialized reports on specific areas like art, character animation, etc. to be distributed to art, character, systems teams throughout PWI's western offices.
I imagine Taco has to play some other games anyway in his off time to keep up. But maybe he could use his art background to type up a report specifically for environmental artists throughout the company on the state of EV art in other MMOs for a bonus check.
Y'Know, technical stuff like "map sizes seem to be shrinking in games X, Y, and Z but polycount of assets is on the rise" and more artistic stuff like "I'm noticing a trend towards more indoor environments that use fog effects. This seems to be effective at blah, blah, blah."
Last time a member of PWE lead a PVP event, at least one Dental's STO account was temporarily banned because said former community manager blew up several times.
False, and I've repeatedly requested this fallacious information cease from being spread. 1) I could not ban player's accounts in-game, 2) That would just be stupid on my part to even think about doing that, as would be asking someone else to do it for that reason who could, 3) Your fleetmate is either making it up or got banned for something completely different, and I'm sure they can email in for the reason as the CS reps keep records of all that, but I played zero part in it. Not really anything I can do to prove it, but I know what I do/did and don't/didn't do, and that was something I absolutely never did. I put my honor and name on it.
Was way more than twice! :P I just usually did it on my personal account because it had all my builds.
EDIT:

Why would that matter? He could just speculate with vague, non-specific details.

god mode + tools + plus easy list of choice in how to disable opposite player with one button push = instant defeat for player.
it wont happen :P.

Back when ground combat was a grind for every group of five too haha. Was a good way to end the beta though.
Seeing just how incredibly terribad Smirk is in the game, it would be a massacre.
