First box I ever opened in game, I got the wells. Now I've opened many a lock box since and have not gotten a ship. Granted, my goal was to not get the ships. Rather, lobi or gear therefrom. I'd sell keys or valuable loot from the boxes and buy the ship outright from the exchange.

As it's been stated before, don't open lockboxes with the intent of getting a ship, or anything else in particular. It's much better to just sell your keys on the exchange for the ship, and won't cost you as much.
In my mind, there are two reasons to open a lockbox:
1.) Lobis. You always get them, and they can be exchanged for some really awesome stuff.
2.) fun. That dirty word.
My personal history with boxes? I fell in love with the Temporal Destroyer one day, and started cracking boxes. Ended up getting the temporal science vessel, and around 530~ lobis. So, I gave that temporal science vessel to my Romulan, and got the whole temporal warfare set for him. Also ended up getting an Undine Nicor out of a random box I opened, sold it on the exchange immediately, as it didn't interest me.

I've must've opened up every single temporal lockbox I can and I've never been giving a single temporal science vessel and why can't i get this ship really want one for my new toon:mad:
you open lockboxes for fun, to get lobi and minor rewards. You buy ships off the exchange. Gambling for a ship is like betting all your money on a single number @ roulette. You will lose, far, far more often than not.
I have opened enough boxes to buy 3 ships with lobi. I have won 3 or 4 grand prize ships in that time (not counting the many mirror ships I won). That is 3 or 4 out of several hundred boxes -- and I think I was probably lucky at that.
Wait until the bug ship's available again. Dollars to donuts, someone will post that they bought 200 boxes and didn't get a bug. Then someone will pipe up that they got one on the first try.
And.... if youre smart and patient you will save your lobi until they offer a discount in the lobi store on ships or equipment...
Sometimes they'll have a sale in the lobi store, I remember I bought a couple ships when they were going for 40% off !!!
If youre patient (because theyve only done it twice since Ive started), this can really stretch your lobi to ec payouts.
Even that is extremely lucky...average has been about 180-200 or so.
Either we have a collection of extremely lucky people in this thread or just a lot of Pinochios
I can believe that, a fleetmate of mine opened near 200 and didn't get a bug.
I do like to "bug" him about it LOL
And he in turn bugs me with all his elite mk xiv gear nowdays
- Xindi Aquatic Narcine Dreadnought Carrier --- Approx 30 Lockboxes **(2 ships out of 30)**
- Benthan Crusier --- Approx 50 Lockboxes **(2 Ships out of 50)**
***GALOR*** --- Approx 75-100 Lockboxes --- ***STILL NO LUCK*** (Will have to be bought with EC) But I think now with T6 Fleet ships on the way, I'll just give up on the Galor dream.
So in my experience, Im hitting ships if I pump 30-60 Keys into a lockbox. Except on the Elusive GALOR class. I gave up on it.
Now dont make fun of me for using a lot of keys
I buy Zen when it is on promotion +15% and only buy keys (in bulk) when they are discounted.
I also keep an EC float in my account bank, when that reaches 10 mil, I buy more keys.
Rinse repeat. Also been using Alts as Dil farmers, and send everything back to my main.
O.O
*attaches luck siphon to Taylor*
I'm well over 500 keys used (all but 30 bought with ec those 30 came with my LoR pack), and only got mirror ships and one tal shiar ship that I sold. Also only got four genetic resequencers total, and none of the good ones that sell for over 1m. Got exactly one console box, unopened still in my bank, and four xindi rnd doffs (no beamer), one hirogen, and one voth.
So far nothing but doff packs and two cxp tokens from over 50 delta boxes. Literally, 48 doff packs and two cxp tokens. Haha. My luck sucks, gimme some of yours

i've gotten a few mirror ship before, but i got lucky with the 2nd xindi box i ever opened, sold it for over 200+ million (don't remember the exact amount).
i try to buy no more than 3 or 4 keys per month.
When I have opened boxes purely for lobi or the console I have not felt cheated when not getting a ship. Thus when I got my Tholian and my adapted destroyer I was thrilled.
They had temporal uniforms in the lobi store as well as the gear so I decided to open lock boxes to get the ship. over 100 later, still no Wells. Finally I broke down and did what people here said and sold my keys and bought it off the exchange.
Now the poor thing can't live up to the expectation I built up trying to get it.
So my advice is if you want to open boxes. Do it for the fun of it and not the big reward. Then be happy if you get said big reward.
(Fun fact: The Wells and the Aeon can use each other's colour schemes.)

Couldn't agree more,
I feel as you do, such a shame my wells and bug will be parked in spacedock as new fleet tier6 ships show up. And the Aeon skin on the wells is beautiful... My favorite ship and skin.
Wish at some point t5-u ships can be brought up t6 status. I'd even pay more Zen to be able to keep flying my wells.
Such a sad shame, my favorite ships are obsolete.
I'm currently flying the scryer so I can unlock the ship trait on my sci.
Ill also miss the jhec...it doesn't get much love but its a solid ship, and nice to look at.
I open for lobi, now the R&D packs, and partially for the thrill of gambling.
I've had more mirror ships than I can count, several UR doffs from the Xindi pack and two *grand prizes*, the Benthan and the Undine whatever it's called.
Like every lottery, the chance of getting the grand prize, is minimal... UNLIKE lotteries however, the players had to figure out the odds on their own, rather than the one offering the lottery posting the odds.
Cryptic insists on saying it ISN'T a lottery, yet at the same time, call the Ships the "Grand prize".
You'd be better off selling the key for EC and then buying the ship directly... let the other nutties with too much money waste theirs.
Oh it is most definitely a lottery, where the so called lobi can best be described as, a guaranteed free ticket if you want to compare it to scratch off tickets.
Even worse, compare it to McD's monopoly game, where the lobi is some freebie food item that is guaranteed.
I also heard that there is some hidden counter mechanic in the background which stacks with each box (of the same kind) you open so that after a few hundred boxes or so it becomes very likely you get ur ship before the counter resets. Dont nail me on that because I have no means to proof it anyway.
I doubt this is true. I think it's more likely that people's recollections are biased in some way. Human memory is fallible.
They're going for what, 9.7-9.75m right now? They're one of the items that has a delay for the listing - it's an "hours" delay instead of a "days" delay like some of the delayed items.
I've never heard of this before. Since when do items have a delay for listing on the Exchange? Which items have a delay?
The reason you can't get one is because you dumped all that Zen into gambling, instead of simply buying keys. If you want a ship, buy keys, sell on the Exchange, and then buy the ship with EC. It is an absolute guarantee at getting the ship, and it is much cheaper than gambling.
Gambling is rarely logical but it is always statistical.

That's it I've had it does any one have a temporal wells class science vessel ship that they don't wont
Yes and, most if not all of them, are posted on the exchange for sale!
One day I too will get one but, for now they are out of my price range and, I have yet to ever get any grand prize ship from any box so, not holding my breath there either.

Or you could spend 25min (1min x 25 days) and not waste any money ...
