Guys! Guys!! The OP is totally on to something here.. This whole thing wreaks of a conspiracy by Cryptic's reptilian overloads to run their business into the ground by making sure he doesn't spend any more money in the game.

Those of you that can't see it are totally blind to the "truth", man...

THE LIZARD PEOPLE! Oh my GOD I thought we won that war...they're in disguise, like Men in Black...they're everywhere, man! You could be one of them and I wouldn't even know it! We gotta tell people! Write a petition! GET THE WORD OUT!!!
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.

so far all i know is that steam banned a player for using illegal prepay cards to buy stuff in steam; at least steam thinks they're illegal. steam's ban carried over to sto. the sto people checked and found it had nothing to do with them and unbanned the person. sto problem solved as far as that player is concerned.

the only other issue going on for sto is the probation period. the probation period doesn't stop you from buying zen, though; and you don't get banned for buying zen. it simply makes you wait a few days to verify who you are and if you buy any items during the probation they're account bound. but it has nothing to do with being banned.

based on those two things the op is simply crazy. but as i've posted links in the past to several similar threads the op's made to troll the forum. it's old news from that poster. he's a subtle troll.

Hey, when a self proclaimed whale says he's not dropping any more money on STO, its bad for sto, cause he's probably not the only one.

He is not...this whale has been f2p since shortly after launch of DR and cant see that changing anytime soon. Why buy stuff just to put behind the upgrade time and dil wall. Why buy stuff when they will intro a new tier of ship, or higher mark and put you behind the curve again. Good money after bad at this point.

Down to one toon that isnt even my main (she is semi retired) and enjoying the game in that limited fashion, but until the upgrade system gets a serious retooling or massive reduction in resources I am absolutely done spending money on this.

And yes, like the OP...I'd drop $50 on this game when the mood struck me, for dil, for the occasional set of keys when a friend was opening some boxes so we could do it together, etc. I'm LTS, got most of the ships, you get the idea. No real regrets on it...I have had a blast...but that era is over without a major change.

    At least for me anyway.

hehe...a quick sling shot around the sun might take us to the era before DR launched. Good times for all :)

Listen, it's a Steam account, not a PWE account, that got banned. Plus we are not very clear why it got banned. We are just going to have to sit back and wait for the chattering to stop and somebody to come out and tell us what really happened.

OP is likely referring to blitzsth who recently had their account banned (and apparently unbanned since) but also had their Steam account banned as a result/effect/cause, right around the time the new Fraud Prevention system (see bellow) was initiated.

OP is probably also referring to the new 'fraud prevention' system Cryptic has enabled on STO that puts users on a 'probation' period where the Zen they buy cannot be traded for Dilithium and any items that they would buy that could normally be traded (keys, anything in a lockbox opened with said key, R&D packs) is bound to account. A system that thus far seems to be very, well, broken, as I myself have been hit with it, even though I've used the same payment method for nearly 5 years. CS has also informed people, self included, that the system will automatically, if not immediately, flag any Steam Wallet users for probation simply cause, well, you can probably fill in the rest.

Because of this system, I will not be purchasing any Zen for this game in the future. I had been doing so through Steam, but that thread was definitely very worrisome. I have a crapton of games on Steam and I would be mighty upset if I suddenly lost access to my extensive game collection. I had never thought about it until that post; it was illuminating. And I now find myself questioning the logic of purchasing games from them (despite the great prices and features.)

I realize Cryptic is not at fault for that situation though.

That said, I just won't buy Zen with these draconian "protections" in place. If they make a more sensible system, I'll consider it. In the case of Eve, sometimes they will flag a transaction for PLEX (similar to ZEN) which prevents it from being placed in the game, but that is usually a very short wait and a lot better than binding it to an account (which will create frustration for many users). Eve no longer flags my transactions as I've spent thousands on their game but even when they did I think it only happened once or twice. There are smarter ways of doing this then "new purchase, must flag."

This is just another PWE fail to me. They have lost a fair amount of money from me as a result, so despite the very odd OP, he is still speaking the truth (just in an unconventional and difficult to understand manner.)

OP, idk where you're getting your drugs, but can I get some? Sounds like some really good ****.

Seriously though, where exactly have you been seeing that the latest problem is people are getting g their accounts banned? This is the first I'm hearing of it. Oh, and just so you know, you're one person. Your money really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. 1 player not buying zen isn't even a ripple in the ocean that is perfect worlds playerbase. you think STO is the only game they make money off of? Or the only one cryptic makes money from? Why do people have this incredibly self dilidued image of themselves as being a huge contributor to a games income?

People can buy ZEN through ARC... that way, there is no risk to a Steam account ;)

Plus, last time I checked, you get better deals buying through ARC, as they give bonus ZEN (based on how much you buy) where Steam does not give you bonus ZEN.

Though Steam did have better increments with a steady rise and ARC does a massive jump in increments, but with the bonus ZEN, it is not so bad really.

Anyway, just leaving this out there. :)

Arc does grant some bonuses for certain amounts but that's only for purchases of 50 dollars or more. I rarely purchase more than 10 at a time usually, unless I'm buying a ship, so those bonuses are not a big incentive to use Arc. Steam on the other hand lets me purchase with just a few clicks right inside the game. even fewer now than previously since you can now authorize Steam to your paypal account. So while I get why some people prefer Arc in this case, the reasons don't apply to me as I usually don't have or spend that much money on Zen.

I too would be considered a whale. But it's because of that I am not concerned about being hit by this new "fraud prevention" system. From what it sounds like, this should only hit those folks that rarely buy zen, and probably only buy zen in small amounts. For those of use that often hit the "you have hit you daily limit of Zen purchases" (yes, there is a daily limit), and hit it often, we've pretty much proven ourselves at this point, so the risk of anything happening to our accounts is negligible.

And even if I get hit by it, my account isn't going to get banned - I'd just get some annoying messages that warn me that my master key purchases will be account bound - which is no big deal, I'll just open a few lock boxes instead of selling them on the exchange. The one user claiming to be banned was a special case - a purchase through steam was flagged, and steam notified STO, and STO *temporarily* locked the account. This is a good thing. I would rather my account be locked for a short time while PWE figures out if my account has been compromised, than risk loosing my stuff.

I guess my main point is, if you really are a "self proclaimed whale", don't worry about the new system. Otherwise, if you're just lying to stir up trouble, give up, you fail :P

I appreciate that it's amazing to me how people can't sometimes see the whole picture. I've played multiple games and looked at the forums of the games I was interested in knowing what was happening in that community. Needless to say I don't like what I'm seeing, and it's not even the negative posts thing people like to keep saying is the reason they don't like forums. I'm not liking the attacks on consumers about valid concerns, it got extremely bad in AA for example when the whales were actually attacking people for being too poor to play the game for free despite it's false label of being F2P.

Have the loud obnoxious trolls of the console gaming community migrated to PC MMOs or something? I'm baffled!

Talk about lazy, since when did entering your credit card numbers turn into quantum mechanics equation? If you are worried about going through steam, do it on a website, which takes all of 15 seconds of your life if you're so worried. I thought this was going to be a serious thread, but it turned out to be a tale of cognitive dissonance.

I got bonus zen on 10 euros and 20 euros as well as over 50 euros on Arc, may not run all the time, but it feels like every time I bought zen I got bonuses, atm 20 euros and above packages give bonus zen.

I am what Cryptic would call "a Whale". I buy stuff just because I can, when I'm depressed. I buy Zen. When I happy I buy zen. When someone stands on one foot and bounces up and down. I buy zen. Why, because... I can.
But NOT ANY MORE. I'm afraid that through all the Hic-ups, bugs and so forth. My account might accidently get banned (thats all you hear nowadays). I couldn't imagine my account with all the stuff I have acumilated getting a perment ban. All that time I have put In on rep projects, collecting doffs and boffs. The Lobi and Lockbox ships. All gone because of a accident. Who knows. I may have did something that PWE doesn't approve of and BAM!! Ban. I'm sorry I just can't take the chance. I really want to level up my weapons now but I guess I will have to just become a real F2P player and grind, grind, grind (even tho I have a lifetime).
Get this fixed and I'll start supporting the game again. As it is. Even the smallest chance of a ban is not worth it. Seriously, if zen was like 10000 for $1.00, I just couldn't do it. I don't see anyone taking the chance.
I imagine I'm not alone. This must be hitting PWI/Cryptics pocket book really bad. I say we will see a official annoncement about a rollback very soon. What I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall at cryptic studios right now. I bet they are in a panic.

P.S. Even if all the Bans were pure Gossip and BS. This is one rumor that has done damage.

funny isnt it, one small issue like server side disconnects or a bad patch is enough for the rumor mongers to spread their bile everywhere and claim dooom. there is already a doom thread for this.
