Crash to Desktop, but not at loading screen.

Hi, I was thinking of posting this in the 'crash to desktop at loading screen' thread, but thats not where I crash.
My bug is that it keeps crashing to desktop after about twenty seconds of 'gameplay'. I can log in fine, select character, etc, but for the most time, the game crashed to desktop after 20 seconds. On 2 occasions i was able to play a little longer, but no more than 5 mins and sometimes, I dont make it past the first map loading screen after character select menu.
Problem persists on both ARC and Steam.
Crash error ticket ID is the same each time - 25663486. verified files on all but a few occasions with no joy.
NOTE: not entirely sure, but running in safe mode feels like it gets me 10 or so more seconds but looks like its running at lower graphics settings.

Also, Think i have this problem as well. http://http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1251981

Hope this is the right place for this, please merge this with other threads if it needs to be.

I know the feeling mine last a little longer seems as long as I don't run any missions pve ect. I'm fine. The second I try to acually play the game the timer to crash starts.

I mentioned this in that other thread, but I'm going to say it here since your thread adresses what's happeining to me today more precisely.

I can get into the game, maybe have some 5-10 mins of gameplay time before I randomly crash. The crash occurs more often when I enter new areas and instead of the loading screen I crash to desktop. Also, as the previous poster mentioned - it seems I can stay a bit more if I just sit in space and do nothing, while if I actually try to do stuff - which requires switching areas/instances, a crash almost inevitably happens.
Yesterday I didn't have crashes, but they started today out of a sudden.

After todays patch, I am still crashing. but now, on the loading screen after the character select menu. for me at least, todays patch was a step backwards, not forwards. Ah, well. hopefully they can fix it soon(tm).

Game just crashed again. Nothing changed at all.

So, Cryptic. Is this how things are supposed to be from now on? Crash after crash? Your ****ty Chinese EULA may save you from "officially" taking "responsibility" but ask yourselves, is this how you want it to be? Why are you even bothering with creating anything? A normal, responsible being would make sure that everything is running just fine. Obviously, you can't or don't want to do even that.

If you're really clueless of how to fix that damn game, then maybe you should consider a rollback of whatever you did to how the game works with DirectX.

There are quite a few bad apples out there, as far as developers are concerned but you even fail help those who can't log in or play for more than a few minutes. And for what? For a new flashy but pointless graphics addon that nobody really cares about?

I do hope that at least some of you are ashamed of yourselves.

Unless you have a similar problem and are looking for help (and have infomation that might help the devs format a solution), or someone with a possible solution, please refrain from posting foul language or any content that isnt helping with the proplem/solution. I kindly ask that these threads are used to help others, Not to moan. Thank you.

Spare the white-knighting. If you had actually read what i posted you would know that i'm also suffering from the same crashes and more, all since the update.

That "foul-language" is what you can call my honest displeasure with how things are handled so far.

People won't offer you solutions because there aren't any beyond Cryptic fixing their code. That's it. If people don't call them out on it they'll just sit down and do nothing. That is the truth.

But yeah it's so much more important to get worked up over a harsh and honest post. Go figure.

But yeah, i'll repost all of my problems. Why not, it's very simple. All that were reported since the update. That is right. All.

The problems sorce: a faulty update that messed up the engines communication with DirectX and/or AMD cards. I can't speak for NVIDIA cards but from what i read so far, those are affected as well.

Their update didn't help at all. There are no solutions.

    There.

I have also been having this same issue. Since DR after logging in, my client crashes to the desktop after no more than 5 minutes of gameplay. Often I can't even wait for my doff missions to complete before it crashes.

When trying to log in again, the launcher always starts by verifying files but this doesn't seem to fix anything. Changing the Force Verify option to off does nothing as it always resets to on when I start the launcher again.

I am running the game through Steam on an HP Pavilion that is about 4 years old. Although it's an old machine, I've never had this problem with the client before and I didn't expect that the changes would make this game more or less unplayable. I have tried solutions such as updating drivers and verifying the files through Steam, but nothing has worked. Until this is addressed I will be playing other games in the meantime.

I am happy I didn't buy the DR pack but I was at least looking forward to playing the new content with my upgraded vet ship...

Edit: the problem persists in the game's safe mode and the error code is the same as the OP, 25663486.

I'm getting the same issue; have been since 10/18. My three toons are all on ESD, (the last one I sent there to test my theory it was ESD!). I can choose a character, then as it gets to the high 90's in percentage of the game loaded it crashes to the desktop with the CrypticError box and Ticket ID 25663486. I've sent in a number of tix, hoping to get it fixed, but no such luck.

They were all playable until they went to ESD...

Just experienced the crash-to-desktop for the first time (as far as I can recall). My Fed-allied Romulan in her Scimitar was about to dock with her fleet's starbase and ... no warning, nothing ... just *boom*, back to desktop. Have logged back in, verifying files. Hope all else is okay. Wish me luck.

sfofficer needs to take some prozac because he didn't use foul language since foul language gets censored automatically anyways. It's only foul language if someone bypasses the language filter.

Same here. I spent most of the my time today messing with full screen, windowed, switching between DX9 and DX11, lowering graphics, etc....just getting tired of messing with it. If I want to enjoy the game at all I've been reduced to DOFF stuff, running my rep out, or hanging out in a station. And that gets old fast. I want to FIGHT bad guys!!!!

I think the majority of us can agree though, that everything was fine until DR hit.

After being in contact with PWE's customer support, they were unable to help, but really tried. In the end, I completely uninstalled and reinstalled the game as a last resort. This has, to me at least and for now, fixed my crash issue. This may not be good news for some, but its a possible fix.
