Keep an eye out or STF extortion

So interesting thing happened tonight. I was running IGE and we were about to enter the room and a guy named runs into the room while we still clearing room before it. He waits till we are done, and stands right on the other side of the force field and demands moneyto allow us to complete the rest of the stf. I reported to a GM, no idea if they can do anything but I don't want anyone else to go in uninformed. So if any of you join a group with this guy be careful.:mad:

    Naming and shaming is against the rules on the forum. So I suggest you remove the person's name and @ handle.

    Yep happened to be before, and since you can't kick anyone they can do it.

    Trolls have been a problem in STO with entire fleets being based around trolling. GMs won't do a thing about it, and in fact are constantly making items that make trolls jobs easier.

    So yeah, short of not PUGing nothing you can do about it, STO doesn't care if they troll you or not.

    True I agree I suppose. Trolls will always find a way to best use the mechanics to ruin other peoples fun, then say they're entitled to do it because the mechanics allow them to.

    There are things I do and things I do not have faith in when it comes to Cryptic.. pest control is one of the do nots, not in the slightest. Of course, really, like any other terrorist, trolls are like cockroaches, for every 1 you see 1000 are in the walls. Ban one two take their place, and all the other assorted cliches.

    This hasn't happened to me yet.. I can't beleive there are kids (yes, kids - I can't imagine adults actually doing this... 20,30, 40 - if you act like an immature kid you're a kid!) are gaining pleasure out of harassing other players for.... nothing.

    All I can say is every time it happens, flag em. Screenshot them and report them. What else can you do otehr than NOT pug, which isn't always an option...

    If enough reports come in maybe Cryptic will do something about it. If anough people wihthold their spending money until it's fixed Cryptic WILL do something about it. As long as it doesn't hurt the business bottom line they don't really care.

    No they won't. This isn't an unusual situation in STO. Like I said there are entire fleets whose sole purpose is to find ways to troll other players, and Cryptic hasn't done a thing about them, unless they're exploiting a bugged mechanic. Then they go, fix the exploit, and ignore the trolling.

    As I said, if it doesn't impact Cryptic's "bottom line" then they won't listen, so I agree with you there.

    If the majority of mplayes start withholding cash purchases, on the other hand... but good luck with that happening.

    I guess if it happens, change instance and try again.

    The GM's are aware of a few who disrupt the game intentionally.

    DON'T NAME THEN IN THE FORUMS. BIG BAD. SHAMING IS NOT ALLOWED.

    Report them ingame, make note of the text (it helps the GM's search to confirm the text). DIsrupting missions is against the games usage policy.

    Players have been banned and a few have had their accounts suspended.

    Alternately, you can

    1.) Ignore them. This reduced the chances they will volunteer for mission you create.

    2.) Pugs are fine, but you can also try the channels. PublicEliteSTF is the most popular, and have few problem players.

    3.) Invite people you know.

    Yes, we've all experienced the fun and hilarity of certain fleets. For the most part, thier numbers have dwindled and you can always change the map to avoid them.

    In-game griefing on STF's - preventing completion - is frowned upon and actually acted on by the GMS. It seems preventing players from completing a mission can be acted on. Who knew? Report them ingame. Ignore them. Move on.

    I would support a week ban, if the whole team reports minus the offender. Trolls will be trolls. This is the reason we need a kick option. I would even say make the whole team report during the missio and if they are teamed and there team reports an auto 24 hour ban from the queues or until investigated by the Devs.

    Many moons ago, we had something like this happen in Infected Ground Norm. As a result of missing the optional, someone raced past the Borg, entered into the middle boss room, and somehow was able to keep the shield up. The player kept ranting.

    Since Cryptic does not make things public, we never learned about what happened to the reported player. Did they solve the issue? I do not know. I can only speculate that Cryptic did do something. Who knows?

    You can't combat every single possible jerk move with game mechanics. It's just impossible.

    So ok, I know the whole "name and shame" thing is frowned on.. but to be perfectly honest I rather like seeing the names of trolls put out in the light for the simple fact it arms me with knowledge of who to stay away from or in the sad event you see them in a team you can prepare for the fact your time is going to be wasted.

    When mine trap was played it was a AFKer troll paradise they would run of to the side of the map and say stuff like your all nOObs im not playing with you that was with in 30sec of the mission start.

    This is what branflakes told me to do report to gm start with your time zone the date and time of the mission and what mission it is. Plus what they have done but dont copy and paste any swearing in to the the report as it wont send it.

    i second that! Unless the system does not reward skill and motivation it is fair game for leechers and trolls.
    The ranking as it is used now is a start, but i would remove the ranking and substitute it with a tiered achievement frame for each individual.
    If you reach tier 1 in your score, you get reward x...if you reach tier 2, you get reward y and so on...x being greater than y
