If you still believe that ARC sets fire to your computer, kidnaps your family and sells all your credit card information to Somalian pirates then that's too bad - You can't participate. I've had it installed for over half a year, since the very first promotion thing they did with it and i have yet to have my family kidnapped (Well, aside from the incident with the KGB - but that is a different story)
Just because it's installed, you don't have to use it. Simply configure it so it doesn't start when your pc starts and it's completely unintrusive. Doesn't even badger you for updates no matter how long you have left it unused. I have literally started arc up a grand total of 4 times, to redeem a code, then go back to using steam.
I just keep Arc around to collect the promos stuff that only Arc provides (like the Khan costume), and then go back to playing STO 99.99% of the time on Steam.
With arguments like "try ARC, it isn't spyware," it's not wonder I.R. Fail and Associates named ARC top-ranked gaming distribution platform in it's class for 2014, citing it's excellent advertisements and social media benefits.
I, for one, don't care if arc is spyware free or no longer a drain on PC resources. I use steam. I have used steam for 95% of my gaming for over a decade. I don't want to launch steam to launch arc to launch sto.
My "issue" with arc is simple freedom of choice!
They won't get rid of steam anyway. Not with the steam runner pack still going.

You don't have to launch Arc to do anything other than redeem any codes.

that has never been proven or disproven to date, PWE predictably wont comment on it themselves, their software, it would be a mighty embarrassment, perhaps too much for them to take. eat silence and static, hope to hell everyone forgets.
bluegeek impressed on me when LoR came out and ARC about the whole spyware deal, pretty adamant there was no spyware, bouncing logic back and forth, but he never provided proof to his claims and i made a mess of mine so i just left it at that before something silly happened. whatever though, some things the community on sto will never forget.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
And why should I have to download Arc just to use the code I could win from steam?
I could very easily post a reply to this which would give the mods no choice but to ban me either temporarily or permanently. Instead, I'll take some Excedrin for the /facepalm.
They are earning money from arc, if you want free stuff then install arc. Don't like it? Don't install it.
Simple
Being the grammar/spelling TRIBBLE that I am, I could not resist fixing up your typos.
It is not a question of not liking it. It is a question of choice. Not everyone wants to install arc for one game (I.e STO) when they can run it just fine from the old launcher or steam. Not everyone wants to be seeing a ton of ads for games they have absolutely no interest in playing every time they try to run the one game they do want to play.
Not everyone wants to be forced to install arc just so they can redeem promotional codes when there was and still is a mechanism to do so on the website.
There is also the question of whether or not it is spyware. I'm inclined to believe it isn't, but I'd rather hedge my bets by installing it on a cr*ppy old disused laptop that has no data on it and be wrong than to install it on my main rig and for the spyware claims to be proven correct. I guess you missed that part of my last few posts in this thread, nesomumi2?
I admit that it is a mild annoyance at most, though it does strike me as rather arbitrary that we can no longer use the website to enter new promotional codes. Surely it would be less hassle to just have it on the website?
Someone posted something along the lines of A.R.C. : Away toRedeem Codes. That is now going into my sig! Ty
TL;DR
I don't care about the other games PWE has, I have no real use for arc, so why make me use it for codes?
Because that's the rules of the promotion. Why can't I fly a plane because I have a drivers license?
Plane vs Car.
Apples vs Lemons.
Not being able to fly a plane/drive a car/whatever while unqualified is a safety issue for both you and the community around you. Doesn't really apply all that well to this situation.

Right over the head. You want to be able to do something without having to do the prerequisite to do it. This is basic **** here man
No, I got the point you were trying to make. Your analogy is simply flawed.
You are right, it was flawed. Its an analogy, analogies are flawed. It compares two things that are dissimilar. Analogies are not literal. They are meant to show perspective.
Guys I started this thread as I was a little disappointed that such a cool competition prize would only be made available to a part of the community.
Some play on Macs, some use the original launcher, others Steam. For the prize to only be redeemable for the part of the community that has ARC I find a little off. A community competition should be inclusive of the whole STO community.
Issues over what ARC is or what peoples personal opinions of it can be vented in a number of other threads, I just don't like seeing the player community being split up in this or any other way.
Fair enough for the ARC specific giveaways, but for a competition to celebrate the upcoming launch of a new expansion, surely the entire community should have the chance to enter without first having to install software (even for a one time use.) or in the case of Mac users buy a PC or install Wine and then install ARC.

Ya! And why do I have to go on social media sites to enter! Why do I even have to enter? Why can't they just give me the delta pack? This is too much work.
Hey everyone,
Just to clarify about these giveaways, we now generate all of our codes through the Arc system as that is the only system we now use as a company.
We have opened this competition to everyone who plays STO and we welcome all to enter to win. You do not have to install Arc if you do not wish too.
However, if you are one of our lucky winners, you will receive a code to unlock your item. This code is only redeemable through Arc as it is only generated through the Arc system. If you choose not to redeem it, that is your choice to make, although we want everyone who wins to be able to enjoy this great pack.
You are welcome to install Arc, or to use the Steam or any other method you choose.
Whether you have installed the program or not, you can enter our competitions to win, and do what you wish with the code if you win. Redeem it for yourself, gift it to a friend of fleetmate, or hang on to it until a date/time when you do install our client, whatever you prefer.
Thanks for taking part in this completely-open-to-everyone-in-our-community-contest, and good luck to everyone who enters!

The day after I installed it, Malaysia Airlines flight 370 disappeared.
They really need to sort this out!!!

Launch Arc. Login. Redeem code. Exit Arc.
That's it.

Why should Cryptic give anyone a Delta Operations Pack for free?
Steam Wallet blew any of the Arc options away for buying Zen so I stuck with Steam.
