    I Spent $50 so far.

Look at the one lockbock faq that list the odds. Ships are really low% and hard to get. Just saying I myself wouldn't knock myself out over one ship.

I hadn't really added up how much I spent on the game so far. What I did buy was character slots, Boff slots, added bank/bag space, ships, ship slots, and some keys.

Last purchase I made was for the Avenger class during the ship sell. Since then I hadn't bought anything. However I do feel a purchase is coming up soon with the new DR.

Since I joined in 2012, I've spent around £100 - 150. I will likely spend another £20 once DR launches.

I think I'm at 300-400 euro or so. LTS and some Zen purchases before that.

I'll never spend another euro on the game though. I think 300-400 euro is more than enough. If they "need" more money from me to survive, they're doing it wrong.

I also don't need anything that costs money now. But if they ever introduce more stuff that I /have/ to buy to progress in a timely manner, I'll quit.

I'm in the negative since Cryptic gives me 500 Zen a month, and I spend $0 on the game

STO is my only MMO and my only 'serious' game, and is my main daily entertainment, so I spend fairly big. On average, about $100 per month which I use for dilithium and for keys to sell for ec. I've opened boxes, sure... but only for Lobi for "bind on pickup" Lobi store stuff. The way I look at it is that I don't really drink, I don't smoke, and my work-related expenses are very low. Thus, $25 a week is quite reasonable for how often I am on the game. You could say it's my 'vice' :D

*sigh* should I even say it...let's just say since February of 2013 till now is probably more than...well let's just say it's in the four digits without cents; that's not including the Delta Pack or my Lifetime. Most of it went to my fleet building it up to Tier V 100% complete before our one year anniversary.

But then again this is the only game I play now a days and don't worry I neither use my mortgage money, or anything like that and I always pay my taxes on time :D. It's just some extra dough I choose to spend here instead of either goingg out to the bar or something :/ just the way I see it.

If you count the before-official-launch LTS (that is still active), 300$ total. If not, I haven't spent a penny on this game

For me, it's all been in-game work and such, including the Dil-to-Zen exchange since it came out XD
    Was named Trek17.

Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.

So if I'm a fool spending real money on these guys, please tell me. I'm a big man and can take criticism.

You're a fool. The lockbox ships aren't that superior to any other end-game ships that would justify the amount of money needed to get them. Which is why it boggles my mind that there are sooooooo... many of them in the game. Just about every lockbox ship can be matched in their role by another ship in the game that comes from the fleet yard, or the C-store. The only thing is that you have to play on different factions than you're used to, which is a biiiiiiiig bugaboo for most people that play the game as fed only.

Specifically talking about spending real money to buy zen, then spending it on lockbox keys.

This specifically, about 3 USD. I used a combination of left over "cash" Zen and exchange Zen to buy a 10 pack once. Hoping for a ship? Sure. But mostly just seeing how feasible it was to earn Lobi this way for stuff. Out of 10 boxes, I got a grand total of 40 Lobi. And mostly useless junk.

And that was the end of that experiment.

I subscribed from February 2010 until April 2011, except for a couple of breaks of maybe 4 months total. So that's $150. I also bought three copies of the game for various launch bonuses, at about $15 each. In April 2011, I bought a LTS on sale for $240. Altogether, I think I've bought maybe $300 or so worth of Zen (and Cryptic Points before PWE took over). My last purchase, that I can recall, being $50 for the Vesta pack.

So that's a bit over $700, spread across a four-year period, I think. In the last year, I've only bought Zen with dil on the exchange. Their design decisions haven't inspired me to spend real money lately.

I've been playing STO for 32 months. I've spent about $200 on ships & slots, but stopped 2 years ago spending real money.

Since then I've acquired most of the lockbox ships through the economics of the game. Most recently the Xindi ships and the Stargazer. I've bought so many ships through the economics of the game it's far easier to list the ships I don't have than those I do. I don't have 2 of the three Voth ships, or the two Elachi ships. Frankly, I don't like these 4. I've got most, if not all the zen ships, except the Vestas. Again, I just don't like them.

Patience is the key to earning EC. Fabricate MK XII consoles has been great for me. Not so much as Cryptic turns crafting into a money maker for them, but it still pays for itself with something left over. Even got a Dominion Attack Ship finally for 490 mil doing it, along with occasional Fleet module sales with Zen earned trading Dilithium earned in daily refinement.

I relate this simply to demonstrate that it's about how much time you want to invest. I enjoy the game so the time is ok with me. If you're in a hurry, Cryptic is hoping you are.

I feel for you mate. I too wanted the xindi carrier very much. I had enough lobi saved up over 2+ years so I flipped another ship and got it for 30 million.

Buying it for energy credits is the only way to go. I'm sure I could open 1000 boxes and not find it if I really wanted it.

Aside from my lifetime I spend very little. Less than $100 in 2.5 years.

. I'm not much of a supplicant of the micro-transaction model so I haven't made any individual zen purchases. I do however like that this game has a micro-transaction model that allows players to in theory access anything in the game without paying a dime. While the implementation here is hardly what I'd consider flawless, it still represents a monetization model I'd like to see more games adopt. It's for that reason, and the relative dearth of Star Trek media I've found interesting in recent years, that I don't regret having bought a lifetime sub.

So...to answer your question $300. No regrets.

Hmm... maybe $40 since 2012? Bought a boxed copy of the game for the install & one month of Gold. Then another $20 or so for zen (used for character slots & account bank, stuff like that). Everything since then has been dil->zen on the exchange.

Yeah, I've opened lockboxes (maybe 1500 lobi worth?), but no keys bought for real $.

edit: with f2p games, my rule is (if I like it) to spend at most no more than the cost of a regular game.

Just did a count - 500 dollars this past year. I'm pretty sure a lot of that went into Lockbox gambles and foolish decisions (like pouring time and a bit of money into the Romulan faction).

    500 to 600 since November 2010.

Given the amount of time I've spent playing, that's not too bad. :)

I avoid grind with periodic Zen purchases to bolster my monthly LTS Zen stipend.
