Right, so I just moved into uni and found my accommodation runs under the JANET internet system. It basically by default has a firewall in place that blocks the ports necessary for almost everything aside from browsing the web, skype and some IM systems. I soon discovered I was unable to play on STO and steam online leading to a little grief. I discovered that you are able to submit holes in the firewall that can allow for online gaming etc. however the ports I found allowed me to start the launcher for STO however whenever I try to log in it says, "cannot Authenticate" I discovered another thread on Perfect world that says the game requires TCP 7000-7500, the only problem being, we are only allowed 50 firewall holes a grouping of 10=2 and a single=1. I was hoping someone would be able to provide the bare minimum number of ports I could authorise that would allow me to play the game in a minimal setting so I could stay in touch with people and interact with them say on a fleet starbase map.
You might want to take a look how to tunnel your network traffic through port 80. Me and my buds from school used to do this on a regular basis to play games while ... school hours.
That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

Thanks for the suggestion, only I don't think I have the technical knowhow for that and I'm concerned about how tightly the systems monitored as it is a government service
For anyone who comes across this with a similar problem, I have found a way to sort the issue. There are many ports required for STO and you can find them on the net, if you are able to open them, good, if not, you may need to find a VPN network. These often cost a bit of money but sometimes you can find them moderately cheeply. This is the best option as you can play all games through it.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.
