If there is no in game upgrade t6 ship for the new rank then I will be truly done once and for all with STO. I dont mind Zen store ships being a little better, but being forced to sit through another expansion in that godforsaken Sovereign because PW Paygated the end game ships. It will be the end of it for me.

Its bad enough that the Dyson Sphere adventure zone is so dull and repetitive, but im sick of looking at the sovereign, even with the Imperial customization items that make it stand out. Ill end up going the way of the rest of the friends I started playing STO with in beta, im the last hold out, crossing my fingers with every expansion that its going to regain some of the fun it had in beta.

You've played since Beta and don't have a ship better then T5 AC? Even a casual could've farmed up enough for a Cstore unlock or Fleet ships by now.....

Ah the farm troll, I wondered how long it would take for one of your species to show up.

For your edification, I have C-store unlocks, at no point did I say i did NOT have any, however if you actually read my post instead of cherry picking troll bait out of it, you would see that my issue will be if there are no t6 ships as part of the in game story progression. However at no point have I been required to fly anything but the Sovereign to partake in the activities I want to and those unlocks were mostly because the available ships for specific classes and factions were ugly as sin. Nor do I want to fly one of the endlessly reskinned escorts, the P2W avenger or the space whale.

Lastly, and I don't know why i'm bothering to justify any of this to a troll, I have played since beta, however I do happen to have a life outside of STO and between actual human interaction and working 60-80 hours, I do not feel it should be necessary to spend every moment of my free time working a second job as a Dil miner, if you run home after work every day or do not have work to go to and can spend the time and enjoy farming endlessly for months on end to get a ship, kudos to you.

If people disagree, then they do so on assumption. If so, in their eyes, 'my view' would be an assumption as well. There'd be no reason why my assumption would be any worse than theirs. If that makes me someone 'preying' on people, well, I'm unfortunately not in a lonely crowd.

I stand by my statement, though.

There is a slight problem here. It certainly doesn't seem like you made an assumption, by all appearances it seems more like you lied, which yes makes what you did much, much worse. Unless...

Don't you remember reading that Cryptic was going to let Delta Rising players get Tier 6 ships for free?

... you'd like to link us to where we were supposed to have read that.

I can link you to something I've read...

... it's the announcement of the leveling rewards. You know, how free ships are typically given out? Via Tiered Ship Tokens? You can see those listed in the list of leveling rewards when you mouse over your experience bar at the top of the screen.

Now, do you see a Tier Six Ship Token listed in there? Because I sure don't.

Now is it possible it would be given out via a mission reward? Perhaps, but incredibly unlikely since that's not how it's been done with previous ships, also because they've been very adamant that T5 ships will be sufficient to complete the new content (and there's no point to pushing that story about old TRIBBLE ships while you're trying to sell shiny new ships unless you KNOW some folks are going to be STUCK with old TRIBBLE ships and you don't want them to feel so burned by it they walk away in a huff). Also there's the whole thing where, well, a lot of folks are upset... you don't think if they were going to be giving out shiny new T6 ships FREE to everyone that they wouldn't be posting that line everywhere in bold with big flashing neon lights shaped like arrows pointing at it? If they're holding onto that bit of info like a squirrel on a nut... they need to skip firing their PR department and just move their fates straight to firing squads because they are just that bad at their jobs. This isn't some kind of WiP-subject-to-change stuff they might have to hold onto like ship stats... it's basic information that anyone with a few functional neurons knows should be accompanying the announcement of an expansion since it's "big news" and would keep a lot of keisters out of a lot of obvious impending fires to boot.

This is my feeling as well, if they were going to give free t6 ships, we would have seen those first, then they would have revealed the T6 pack/cstore ships.

It could be that they are simply pushing that story to satisfy the crowd who absolutely insist on flying ship designs that are hundred years old or more and are worried they wont get to fly their Excelsior in the end game content, thus heading that rage off at the pass. But I doubt it very much.

This is Perfect World we are talking about, take a look at their library of games, every one of them is built on the same business model, selling convenience and shiny objects and farming so they can avoid the "extended trial" backlash. We wont even get started on the blatant plagiarism of games like Swordsman.

Perfect World makes Bioware's locking of the ability to remove your helmet in F2P SWTOR seem acceptable with the amount of content they paygate, and lets face it content is paygated, even if you can farm up the item in game, farming up a space whale triple pack for example takes MONTHS because of artificial limits like the daily cap of refined dil. Even if you HAVE the raw Dil, converting it takes literally months, 112 days at current market rates. The argument that everything is available in game with "a little work" is almost always made by people with the disposable income to not have to put in that work.

Not to mention that many of the best/most interesting ships are on the Lobi store which, given the nerf in money making, are now even more unobtainable by the average player. So they allow us the privilege of probably buying an upgrade token for $10-$20 bucks to fly inferior ships which will cause a lot of ship envy when people see the new fancy ships flying around and thus increasing sales.

Every expansion this games become more and more about spending RL cash and less and less about the content,

I highly doubt the next winter ship will be T6...I just don't see it happening...the next lock box ship being T6 is possible but the winter one I doubt.

I don't see that as such a great unlikelihood (ie. event/lock box T6) . T5 and T6 are distinguished by two things, really. 1. The extra boff seat and potential for intel boffs. 2. The ability to unlock a starship trait for your character. The first just sets the target for what build the devs create, while the second is the only significant creative challenge that would make T6 novelty ships at all less likely than a T5-U. Just figure out what that new power/passive is going to be and there you go.

I would not be surprised in the least if the next event ship was a T6. Might even be a limited edition episode reward like the Obelisk...

Would that have much of an appeal?

"Grind the ice race X times over again, get a slightly better version of a ship you hardly ever use now."

Nah, I think that a new ship [that you'll ultimately hardly ever use] would probably be the way to go over any promotional T6 re-runs (unless for example its a T6 oddy) but I think the general question of "will it be T6" is almost certainly yes. It doesn't take that much extra work and it adds another selling point.

"Get this ship and even if it just sits in spacedock for the rest of your playtime you'll have another Mastery Level 5 trait to slot in."

People do it every year but they do it for what looks like a new ship. They [generally] don't do it for the very same one [even if they don't use it all the same.] :)

But that also gets into my other point, T6 does make more sense for an event ship because it does have one other bit of shiny that you can make use of without the box it came it: starship traits. They sit right above your rep abilities [on tribble at least] and presumably work just the same way. Unlock from T6 ships and use up to 4 for whatever you want.

I doubt many are going to be fully spec'ed by the time even the next anniversary or summer event rolls around (particularly the KDF...:P) and I can easily see T6 event ships becoming a draw unto themselves (never mind the cardboard exterior).

I think the OP is a little confused. Regardless of what else may or may not be available, the fact remains that the current t6 design we've seen is, in all likelihood, a solid representation of the coming norm for all future ships. Also, it has been stated, by the devs, that, as of this moment, the ones we've seen are likely the only ones available. They have states that there will only be a few ships available for each faction when delta rising goes live, and the fact that there are only 3 or 4 current known for each faction. Fits that statement. I don't doubt that we will have more available later on, but I'm fairly certain that they will look more like the new ships rather than the old trek designs.

To an extent. The most "outlandish" visuals are only associated with intel ships. These are built for stealth and their visual design tries to represent that fact and compensate for what effect that basic design may have on gameplay (ie. its a stealth-fighter starship that still shows up pretty well against a starscape). That's probably not going to be the mode of all Starfleet/KDF/Republic vessels moving forward, only those that have this lean towards intelligence mechanics. Things like the Guardian class will have more of a classic design (very remiscent of original Ambassador class concept art) but that too reflects its abilities.

Veterans got a free ship token at 50, so are they going to get one at 60?
