First some things:
1. I have enough EC not to complain ( if there is such thing) made some a while back and still have some.
2. I am not a Cryptic hater, doom guy or anything like that. For instance i know many that hate some late changes but i actuality like the way this game is going regarding some game-play aspects. I want to see more of that.
BUT i see to many people complaining about how hard is to make EC now, how u need EC to make EC and so on. The idea is that many people are casual games not professional grinders/farmers.Now that junk farming its not working anymore they seem to have problems making EC. I might add that with the new changes regarding consoles now its useless to hope u will get some good console from making 1st in some runs, u get utter junk.
Also what its not working anymore (without taking a huge risk) its buying things low after market saturation ( lock box) waiting and selling later. With all this late changes regarding lvls or stuff and so on only sure thing are lock boxes ships, some uni consoles (and possible traits). But again those things are not cheep for poor players and having your little EC locked out for moths ...
It would be nice if some things would be implemented to help poor players get a decent start. Imo at least.
P.S. - I know there still ways to make EC but i am talking about some people that for various reasons cant do those due to lack if skill, EC, time etc.
Please stay on the subject my last post was closed due to some people starting talking about nonsense, if u plan to do that make your own post

1:Able to log into the game for however long you want without having to buy a sub.
2: Able to play all game content without having to purchase it.
3:Can acquire any item in-game they wish with enough time.
Yep, F2P....
They want you to spend more of your money, rather than spending time grinding it for free.
-Major EC nerf --> more time needed, why waste time when you can just pay to get what you want?
-R&D finish now --> want to win instantly? just pay some dil. no dil? just buy zen and convert
1. True to that.
2. U can sure play but playing under-geared ( and possible without knowledge or skill) sucks ...
3. Enough time ... yeah sureeee .... well after seeing people struggle to 1 mil ... that ship ...
Anyway my point was another ( when reading carefully ), title was only to get the discussion going )
Hate to be off topic here. But why is forced always resolve to holding a gun to a person's head?

If you do care about how long it takes to get geared up for end-game then it is clearly P2P. Nobody wants to grind for a year to get enough dil to buy all the rep and fleet gear for their zen ship.
Some of it is also P2W, esp in PVP where you need it quickly in order to fight the other guys that already paid to get it. Not just ships but consoles and lockbox traits and other things.
On the flip side of the coin, Cryptic is pilling up the resource requirements. Grinding out resources for reputation systems and fleet holdings is a team sport. So, working with other players lightens the workload.
Since people have become burnt out, they are trying to use the exchange as a shortcut. Exchange sellers know what is happening, so they are raising the cost for very-rare mark ten items.
Unless Cryptic decides to deal with the issue, the combination of all the requirements will continue to be a problem. Cryptic is not directly responsible for the currency problem: however, they are also not doing anything to solve the issue. I hope ultra-rare items and mk x+ items will be a solution.
Players are feeling the pressure from the accumulation of all the requirements.
One of my Dil farmers is a KDF in a mirror Ki'Tang. And if you've looked at your BoPs you'll see that it is very similar to the free Heg'tha you get at 40 and the 2000zen B'Rel retrofit (which has an enhanced battle cloak). This particular toon wasnt going to be a stealth bomber so i didnt need the B'Rel retro. All of this toons gear is from episodes: 3 pc Solanae, x4 very rare XI AP dual cannons, Obelisk+360 AP and i could just be running a turret but i can afford to buy a KCB and assimilated console. I could still do what i've been doing without those 2 pieces.
I do CC, ICE, CE, KVE and trade in 3 neural processors for 1k dil, all marks get converted to Dil. Then i just go to Dyson Sphere and do missions for High Command, Supply Depot, the IKS ship by the minefield and the USS Hypatia. That's 8000 Dil converted for 1 toon, do the same thing on two other toons and thats 24000 Dil total. Right now at current Dil exchange prices that's enough to buy 131 zen, which is enough to buy 1 master key, which is worth about 2-3million EC.
Now...if people are expecting to sell a lump of coal as vendor loot and get 150-200 million EC for it so that they can buy their shiny new lockbox ship, then yah whatever.
Umm...it's incredibly easy to earn dilithium to turn into zen...the only thing slowing that process is the exchange...it costs so much to turn dilithium into zen because there is entirely to much dilithium out there...and also it's player based which isn't Cryptic's fault.
What the frak do you need fireworks for, anyway? They have no effect other than making flashy lights. Is making people "rage" your endgame? If so, I can suggest some much more effective games for that...
Because they cant/wont approach the concept that you can be forced in any other manner..Its either a violent coercion or none at all. Nothing like debating with very unimaginative people.
because some people in this forum will defend anything beyond logic, every MMO has them.
when STO went f2p it was TRULY f2p, your freebie sovereign wasn't particularly weaker than a c-store ship or anything for instance, you could get the highest PvE gear just by playing normally.
but some people's idea of p2w involve pay-gating stuff in the most horrifying kMMO style, which is hilarious because most MMOs like that, don't last long in the west, STO may not be on the level of kMMOs(and its unlikely to get there because it might be economical suicide), but its definitely p2w now, it just so happens that if you're not a casual player, you can still get by in true f2p style, wherever that will survive delta rising remains to be seen.
this man gets it, although he forgot to mention that the ship disparity between new players and old players keeps getting bigger, since a new player would have to wait an event like winter event or summer event to get a ship that happens to be on the level of T6.
also, if anyone wants to see a TRUE f2p game, look at dota, that is true f2p.
Well if u want kcb and assimilated module but cant afford it due to the fact u don't want to spend the little resources u farm i rest my case )
Putting jokes aside u are right BUT lots of new things are/ware released and at the same time EC nerf has come. In fact last weeks so many new/better thing ware released that myself was in the situation were i have spent lots of EC only to see that in a few weeks all that will be "only" decent gear. What i am saying is that nerfing EC while releasing new/better stuff at high rate maybe was not the best idea if u wanna call this f2f. Using under-geared stuff cuz u don't have time to farm and going public games is a sure way to have fun when u meet others like u ( i remember one of my last ISE when i meet 4 guys that had together 3k dps
To me its like telling my gf she is beautiful and that i love her while looking at this chick that just passed me and her with a shorter dress
Agreed. So far I have bought a Tactical Odyssey, Avenger, Fleet Avenger and Mogh Battlecruiser ALL with trading Dilithium on the Exchange. I currently have over 500,000 Dilithium ready to trade in for a Tier 6 ship for my Reman. It's not really that hard.
That's just the most common form of the phrase people use today.
And its only P2W if you're impatient and must have the shiny now.

Evim Dil is getting easier to come by and there are plenty of ways to farm it. Furthermore, since Dil can be turned into Zen it's a win/win.
However, the dil:zen market is phuqued atm. But as with all markets, they rise and fall - you just have to keep your eyes on them to make a good deal.

Nope - my bad. I thought I had read somewhere you could... can't seem to find that any more so strike that...
Although, Cryptic, that would be an AWESOME idea! Even at a 300:1 ratio it would make GPL actually valuable.
That's not what P2W means dumbbutt.
That 3rd one there is kinda of tricky. Can our civilization travel to other galaxys and buy a coca cola from a alien. Sure sometime in the future. May be in a couple hundred thousand years but I'm sure you can eventually.
With point 3, I have to say crafting comes to mind. Then people say (under their breath while kicking grass) yeah I guess you can. If you don't die from old age first.
Ok, that made me LOL
I've played P2W games and I HATE THEM! Talk about having a gun forced to your head... but who can you blame? We knew that going in...
ST:O is about as far from a P2P as you can get, and not even remotely similar to a P2W in any form. In my opinion it is one of the few enjoyable games that is balanced enough that a person can play without ever having to pay a real dime.
Take SW:TOR as an example - it, too, is F2P but those who don't subscribe are pretty heavily nerfed. You don't have to engage in PvP but even against PvE you start to feel it eventually. ST:O isn't anything like that, so I have to agree with Center on this one....
Its true what u say, but truth have many faces. We do get your point but i am not sure u get ours due to your analogy ... so i will make one myself what hopefully will make some understand the difference between technical and psychological limitations. For example no one is putting a gun to our head to make a post in the forums but we still do that when there is something we just need to say. This is true for many things including reasonable resource farming time for a f2p game. This is why i suggested re-integration of some simple (non -complicated) ways to get small amounts of EC like increasing lvl/quality of drops, readjusting their vendor price ... all that to help casual ( or those that lack ideas ) players to not suck when it comes to gear. Also it seems that most ways of making EC now are linked to dilithium/zen, making profit dependable of ONLY 1 market variation. having all your profit depending on just one factor for this many player leave all this open to crude speculation , not including times like this were dil/zen price will go up reducing what already is a small profit time for the time lost.

Funny, I though that took 24-72 hours or less if you get lucky with about 1 hour effort on your part.
Farm dil, buy key=1.6 mil now?
Get lucky and farm a purple technician doff=what is it 9-11mil? Heck, a lot of engineering doffs and some others pay well.
Yes, the good times of one raking in 20-30 million in a couple of days are long long gone. But you can still make enough.
No that oversimplifies it. I just want some consideration for casual players.
