Missing Chat

 Since about Sunday evening, I have not been able to see most of my chat channels. One of our fleet channels was working and I had asked if anyone else was experiencing similar issue, but I think that might have stopped working as well as no one responded...at least I couldn't tell if they had responded.

This has affected every toon on my account. I have tried resetting to default just the Chat Options and when that failed to fix the problem; I reset all Options to default. Bubkis.

I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this or is this something that I have done inadvertently and how I could go about rectifying it. As delightful as it may seem to not have to watch Zone chat scroll by; I also do not have access to any Elite queues, Red Alerts or Fleet channels.

Which brings me to...searching the forums. I tried. After trying to enter 'missing chat' and the verification code; seven times it told me I had not entered the captcha correctly. I was about to 'Snip It' and fire off a hateful letter to the website. It was fn frustrating.

I don't really have anything in the way of trying to duplicate the problem. I simply log-in and BOOM! No Chat channels

Any help would be greatly appreciated.:D

EDIT: Playing around with it some more; I learned that it will still display System, Combat-Channel, NPC and when a friend log ins and out. Don't know if this will help anyone troubleshoot it. Just thought I'd throw it in there.

Hey Frost Not sure if this is related.

Quite Often If I Change Characters it will disable my whole in-game chat system for two or three minutes...

To Fix This I have to change between channels six or seven times, and then I attempt to send a message six or seven times before I get the "Chat is Offline" Fly-in Message, and then it will start working again.

This may be related but I'm not sure.

Not trying to hijack but trying to help

Just an update...Occasionally, I will try a chat while on a a team. Sometimes I do get a response...so i think it works. Other times I get no response and all other chats/channel seem to not work still.

8/16 Update. I have now noticed that I can see some of the chat on certain channels if a friend has typed something into it. For example a friend had posted a WTS message in Zone chat, but I could see nothing else being said in Zone.

Another friend posted a LFG message on the PESTF channel and I could not see responses to it or anything else being said.

Thanks for any help and for those looking into this for me.

Just wanted to report no change in my ability to chat.

Same as last post. Sometimes I can see those who I have added as friends in the different channels, or if I'm on a team, I think I can chat with them; though I don't know how much they see from me.

Was hoping something may have been done with latest patch.

I've had this problem for a year and it extends to the other Cryptic games Neverwinter and Champions Online. Much like you I got no help from Cryptic and my tickets would be closed without so much as a suggestion as to what might cause the problem.

When it comes to troubleshooting I would suggest starting off by checking the whitelist. I don't know how it happens but sometimes you get added to the whitelist which prevents you from seeing the chat.

Try typing the following: /whitelist_chat 0

This should remove you from the chat white list, you might have to exit the game and log back in before it starts working.

Now each of Cryptic’s games has a whitelist feature (which affects all of the other games chat as well) but so far only Champions Online has the most control over the feature when it comes to using a GUI. If above command does not work and you have CO installed (or are willing to install it) try logging into the CO and opening the social window. From there go to the SG tab and click options; you'll see the long list of whitelist options, turn them all on and then toggle them back off (this is what ultimately fixed my issue as using the above chat command did not work for me.) Now I finally have my chat back in STO, NW and CO while before all I could see where system and admin messages.

Hope this helps your problem as well.

I finally have my chat back!

My earlier post noted that I was able to see friends chatting on a number of channels, but that the rest of their conversations with non-friends could not be seen. For example, if a friend posted 'LF3M ISE champ' on the PESTF channel; I could not see those to had responded with the invite word, but would see 'LF1M ISE champ.'

This really had me looking at the Social Privacy option of only allowing friends and fleet to chat, but I had already checked the off option.

SEE THE IMAGE I HOPE POSTS!

With this option set to 'ON' you would have the difficulty I was having, but I had mine turned off and was still experiencing only seeing friends and fleet in chat. I decided to change in to 'ON' and click DONE and then change it back to 'OFF." Simple, but it worked. not sure why it would do this. Maybe something for the Devs to look at.

Thanks for the whitelist_chat response I will keep that in mind if this kind of thing happens again. Hope this thread helps others.

You are a lucky gamer then cuz since the start of Season 9 my Local and Zone chat aren't working correct and after 15 Bug reports I don't think they will ever work again as they should.
