Unable to start game client

After patching Tribble today, every time I try to start the gameclient, I see this message:
Unable to start game client: file not found

I have done a Force Verify, but it did not fix the problem.

What does this error message mean and how do I fix it?

Same issue here. Mac Client and LTS over a year now. Even redownloaded client and tried to run fresh install.

Says file not found trying to run Tribble. Holodeck is fine.

I receive the following crahs report each time I try to access Tribble.
This happens shortly after the LOR Loading Screen appears.

Fatal Error: Direct 3D driver returned error code (D3DERR_INVALIDCALL) while resetting the device.
    Technical Details: Intel(R) HD Graphics

Also, just installed RedShirt and that works... so something is missing from Tribble install, I just can't figure out what.

    Recap:

    Fresh install
    Force Verified
    Holodeck and Redshirt works
Error: Cannot launch game client: file not found.
    LifeTime Subscriber
    Test Shard activated on account
Have 3 characters set up on Tribble

I twittered CaptainSmirk yesterday before the end of day and he said he would send this up the chain. So they now know about this.

Oh, and I updated my son's computer today with the same results.

    Holodeck, yes. Tribble, no.

Any word on whether this is being looked into any more? still unable to get into tribble. All it does is CTD.

    yep same issue here

    holodeck and redshirt work perfectly

Tribble does not make it to the loading screen after hitting launch, just crashes after the game starts to load.

have tried removing Arc and the games
    deleted tribble folder
turn on and off streaming patches
    tried running in safe mode
    full screen / windowed
used both EU & US patching proxy's to see if they might give different results etc

Yes i knew most of this was not going to work ;) but everything is worth a shot at least.
If the crash reports are dumped into the logs folder in the test server folder then this is not producing one yet i get the crash report pop up

I still have no access to the Tribble test server.
It is still giving the same message.

Is there an ETA on fixing this?

I'm wondering if this is caused because of some wierd account lockout flaw?
According to other forumites, silver accounts are blocked from Tribble.
What if this function is misreading some gold/lifer accounts as silver?

Still CTD even after the patch. Let's get on the ball, Cryptic.

So, I did the Update from the 26th and it still isn't giving me access to the Tribble Server. Says file not found. IT happens right after it accesses the account server. I am a lifetime member and should have Gold Access. I wonder if for some reason it isn't recognizing that access.

OK...Got to a PC, as I use the MAC Client, and installed the ARC version on Windows 7.

Surprisingly, it got further than I can. It loaded to the LoR screen and then errored out with DX3D11 errors saying it hung and stopped the video card.

I compared the Windows Playtest folder with my MAC one and found the following files were missing from the MAC client:

    D3DCompiler_42.dll
    D3DX9_37.dll
    d3dx9_42.dll
    d3dx11_42.dll
    dbghelp.dll
    PhysX3CommonDEBUG_x86.dll
    PhysX3CookingDEBUG_x86.dll
    PhysX3DEBUG_x86.dll

    steam_api.dll
    xinput1_3.dll
    xinput9_1_0.dll

I zipped the files and copied them to my Playtest folder on the MAC. Although I get shader errors on the LoR screen, Tribble does load.

Hope this narrows it down for a patch, Cryptic.

    *UPDATE*

I have determined it is the PhysX3 files it wants specifically.

It still gives compilation shader error codes, but it works in getting me into Tribble.

*And, for Cryptic, I also have error text files that I can send you about the errors I'm getting.

thanks but how do we do this, what can people with only 1 pc and 1 install do?

    admittedly im confused sorry

My research on Physx3 says it is a NVIDIA product and included in their GeForce drivers, so I would download/install the latest driver for your video card and see if it replaces a bad Physx file and fixes your issue. ;)

As a Mac user, it is a bit more complicated for me. But, please, let me know if that fixes it. :D

So, I am thinking, after reviewing the text files, that the possible problem with the Tribble build has to do with DirectX11 calls.

The video I am getting when in-game is definitely sub-par compared to Holodeck or Redshirt.

Not sure the fix can be done by us. Might have to still wait for Cryptic.

    Sorry, no change for me.

going a little deeper as i read the MAC client is missing some files.
copy/replace all files in the Playtest folder ecxept the

    GameClient.exe
    crypticError.exe

with the ones from the Live folder that should manage to fix missing files and maybe broken .dll.

Otherwise we have to wait until the the MAC client is fixed by Cryptic.

OK, I had already tried a clean install, which didn't work.
But, I gave your idea some merit, so I just tried copying the DLL libraries from the Live folder to the Playtest and no change.

I fixed the missing files issue by copying some files from a PC version this morning, but now, I have an issue with Direct11 not working and it reverting to DirectX9.

Tribble works, just with crappy DX9 graphics. I'm still reviewing the graphical error logs for info.

    Phoenixfett,

    Given the following:

    1) This is a DirectX11 call issue and DirectX9 is working for me.

    2) The errors I got on the PC this morning was due to DX11 halting the PC's video card.

    3) This issue is also affecting NeverWinter in the last few days.
    http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?730921-pixel-shader-compilation-failure/page5

    I have a suggestion.
In the Launcher, go to the Options section at the top and check "Safe Mode" That should force DX9.

Please let us know if you get in.

Nope, Safe Mode didn't work for me, but I can't confirm that it was trying to launch in DX9. I'm going to try forcing my Live install to use DX9 and then copying the prefs file over. I'll post in a bit with the results.

    Okay, I can confirm that it's a DX11 error.

Switching my Live install to DX9 and then copying the gameprefs file to the Playtest install fixed the crash issue (at least for me).

EDIT: D'oh! Double post. Didn't even think about it...

I deleted all local (playtest) content, downloaded the 9.5gb of tribble, set the gameclient.exe to compat winxp sp3 mode, double clicked exe, tribble loads.

UPDATE: Used that to set it to dx9. Now able to login and everything works.

Deleted Playtest folder again on Mac Client. New download still missing files. Added Physx3 files, loads with DirectX11 errors and stays in DX9 mode.
