    Yup. Chat server is down.

    Interestingly though, it would seem that I can still set the message of the day for my fleet so I'm using that as a hacky workaround to convey information. This amuses me.

    If it isn't back up pretty soon, we'll have to cancel my fleet's weekly RP event. :(

    Down for all of us too, and sucks as we've also got an RP event that was about to start.

    Because of the large amount of chat abuse that has been going on lately, especially in Zone chat, I believe chat has been temporarily turned off. I've been witness to many episodes of troublemaking and harassment by players, in Zone chat especially and know how bad it can get. Thankfully, it's only done by a very small percentage of players and most who play are actually nice and helpful players. Hope this serves a lesson to those who abuse the chat privileges to harass players.

    Zone chat is always like that, especially in ESD zone chat. Something has obviously broken this time.

    I highly doubt this is a reaction to chat abuse. If it were, it would be better if they were only turning off certain channels. Turning off everything, fleet, custom channels, etc, harms the majority who had nothing to do with that. I'd guess this is some unscheduled chat server "maintenance" or outage like that.

    Zone chat is always like that, especially in ESD zone chat. Something has obviously broken this time.


    It's been much worse recently, at the pushing of several players who are very aggressive. I'd show you some of the pictures I've had forwarded to admins in my report on persistent harassment of players by such players, but I believe that's a matter for Support to handle and they will take care of things accordingly.

    Unlikely. Why turn off the entire mail system, fleet chat, custom chat channels and even personal messages because of abuse of zone chat? :confused:

    Most likely something unexpected happened, with some luck they're already working on it.

    Oh stop panicking, it's the server hamster that had a stroke again. He'll be up and running in his hamster wheel again in no time. And to make it clear: Cryptic doesn't give a cr*p about chat harassment, so there's no way they'd turn off a chat server just for that.

    why the players involved in these indelicate messages, are not banned from the game during an hour (example). this would be more fair

    Got confirmation from the Dev team that they are currently investigating this downtime in the chat system.

    It's that mentality in the first place that leads to abuse of the chat priviledges. I don't speak for devs, but I can tell you that's a far cry from the response I received from them. Perhaps someone from Cryptic would be kind enough to enlighten us about chat and its rules when they're done fixing the current issue...

    What exactly have players been saying to bring down the chat servers?
