Only the ones that reward a single mark type. Multiple choice box will still need to be opened manually.

This was probably to stop people from holding them all and opening during Mark events to get uber Marks...

Yes, and that people will stop buying new bank and inventary slots also. I thought they added boxes to force people to buy more slots!

Extremely unlikely that held-back Mark boxes would output more during Mark events. If they're like those promo-packs, their content is being set on delivery, not on unpack.

They do give more marks. I held onto all of my 250 boxes from the mirror event and was able to get a lot of rom marks during the next mark event.

In general I think it's ok because one needs the to use precious inventory space to hold them.

Yep, wrong on that one. I held on to my summer event mark boxes, and when the Bonus mark kicked in during the summer event, I opened what I had, and received the bonus.

No - a different mechanism was employed for bonus R&D, giving a second box for the reward.

This seems like a bit of a vindictive change for people who hoard boxes for bonus mark weekends.

TBH, I don't really mind the auto-unpack thing, saves me time and the effort to click open all the time,I can see where some people might find it bad... Stockpiling!!!! but in the end not many people stock

Yet, it can be seen as yet another nerf. Season 9; the Undiscovered nerfs! :D

    Nerf is OP, plz nerf
That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.

You overestimate how many do this...

Yes, there are a handful of people who like to scrape all their marks together and all that, but I am fairly confident that a significant majority just opens them first chance they get.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Wow.... I'm just astonished how idiotic the whole mark acquiring process gets handled.

We first started with getting the rewarded marks directly without any extras involed. Window poppped up, showed what we got, done. Then they introduced boxes that pile up in the inventory and needed to be opened manually and now we get boxes that automatically open as soon as we get them.....

Is it just me or does someone else see the whole pointlessness of this chain?

And the reason for this change? Nerfing box hoarders? Why should that be a reason? Mark boxes were bound on pick-up, marks are stuck on one character and everything obtainable through marks is bound on pick-up and character. There's literally no harm done to anything if some people decide to hoard boxes til mark weekends.

Watch them introduce "Choice of mark" boxes in the C-Store :)

if they auto unpack that means the multiple one wouldnt have any choice but to be opened and you either make a choice or its made for you by random on the system?

Exactly as in real life, the entire point of having a box is to hold something until WE decide to open the box. Apart from the multiple choice boxes, auto-unpack completely undermines the point of having boxes in the first place. You give us boxes that auto-unpack? Why bother? Skip the box mechanic altogether, and simply give us the Marks in the first place.

For an example? Look at any mission before the boxes came along. When we would complete one of the Defera Hard missions, we would simply receive the marks. No Marks box, just the Marks. When we would finish Azure nebula, we would choose which type of Marks we wanted right then and there. No Marks box, just the Marks. And yes, we were perfectly happy with this.

Entirely get rid of the boxes, and just auto give us the Marks. OR keep the box mechanic, and let us decide when to open them.
I completed a 2-man CSE, ISE, and KASE, Optionals included. And I soloed Winter Invasion.

im kinda glad the single mark boxes are auto unpack, never saw the point in the multiple choice option on say borg stfs when the only choice open is omega. so yeah, stuff like that you should get on completion of the mission without needing the choice open for no reason or the box for extra rage value :P.

now ive read it more carefully, it seems there multiples will remain untuched, doubtless it will remain like that forever.

does this mean material boxes get uppacked as well or do they stay the same as the multiple mark boxes?

Yeah, it was one big conspiracy to buy bank and inventory space... And now that the entire player base has gone out and invested their hard earned zen on these spaces, Cryptic are taking the unintentional exploitation of mark reward packs away! It's diabolical!

Here friend, I think you need this...

Truth be told, the ability to hold onto the mark boxes untill the bonus mark event was clearly an unintentional quirk of the mechanic... In other words, an exploit...

I have absolutely no issues with this change as it just means that mark boxes will only reward the originally intended marks and the only people who are gonna be put out by this are those who took advantage of this unintended side effect...

At least, the choice of marks boxes don't auto-unpack _yet_. The wording in the patch notes suggest to me that this might still be done. Obviously that means when they unpack automatically, you would need to make your choice immediately (picking a random choice makes no sense.)

I am not sure why they needed to change the whole process of getting marks i nthe first place, but if i had to guess, I think it must have had something to do with the daily bonus marks. That was a change to the system, and maybe the only way they could implement this by giving us items instead of "currency". And now they finally added the capability to auto-unpack these boxes, to get closer to how it used to work.

I wonder what will happen to the boxes I already own?

It was a very devious plan.
First, they gave us free inventory and bank slots. To trick us into believing they were nice. Then they gave us mark boxes, and suddenly we needed all that inventory.

And then they gave us the R&D inventory, freeing up lots of space because R&D/Anomaly materials no longer needs to be stored in the bank or inventory. ANd now they are taking our mark boxes away.

And so we sit on giant, unused inventories, and are desperate to fill it with something. Soon, we will begCryptic to lower item stacks so the inventory won't feel so empty...
    Devious.
