Tribble Maintenance and Release Notes - August 13, 2014

We will be bringing down the Tribble server for maintenance to apply a new update: ST.42.20140720a.14

General:
  • Resolved an issue which was causing many Romulan Duty Officers assignments from not starting.
    • An example would be Romulan Evaluate Bridge Officer Candidate Assignments.
  • All mark rewards now unpack upon pick up.
    • These can no longer be stacked in the player’s inventory.
    • Currently, this does not include Mark Boxes which allow a choice of Marks upon opening the box.
  • Defend Rh’lhho Station and Mine Trap, regular and elite versions now have the proper cooldown upon completing the event.
  • The Duty Officer Mission cooldown on Star Cluster contacts has been reduced from 20 hours down to 4 hours.
  • Updated Khazan Cluster missions so that they should give credit to the Khazan exploration accolades.
  • Resolved an issue causing Aegis Engines and Shields to require multiple Aegis items equipped to get their full bonuses.
  • Resolved an issue causing a negative time amount will appear when a Duty Officer mission is completing.
  • Motivation: The description now correctly says it lasts 12 seconds

Known Issues:
  • Deadly Intent Module does not work on some weapons.
  • Servin and Veela System Patrols cannot be entered.
  • Traits cannot be switched on the player’s bridge.

    Could someone explain to me this one. Is this a ploy to curtail rewards during bonus weekends?

    Unfortunate change to mark boxes. It was annoying for the ones with just 1 type to have to open them all one by one but I liked being able to stack the FM boxes when it was getting close to double mark time.

    Still no fix for female Odyssey long jacket rank pips, which are under the Admiral rank & clip hard... oh please.. :(

    As well as the doff missions now completing one at a time after the across the screen fly-by text goes away. Its mission complete, fly-by text comes up, text goes away after a few seconds, and then the next mission completes. Please note this also affects R&D projects.

    Reproductions steps. Start a lot of missions, log off until the all finish, then log back on and watch them all complete one at a time.

    On one hand. On the other, it's a fix to a very annoying change to how marks are rewarded that was only introduced in season 9. It's hard to be upset when it's a return to the original behavior -- I won't shed any tears over the loss of the boxes when I'm playing in the battlezones, that's for sure.

    Are you guys going to fix the belt loops on the Odyssey uniforms so the don't clip over the the sides and look a little more stream line?

    Didn't they fix that weeks ago? It was in the patch notes and my Female captain no longer has that problem.

    On one hand. On the other, it's a fix to a very annoying change to how marks are rewarded that was only introduced in season 9. It's hard to be upset when it's a return to the original behavior -- I won't shed any tears over the loss of the boxes when I'm playing in the battlezones, that's for sure.

    boxes are not going away, they are just being auto-opened for you. Which means that the popup to recieve the box will still show up and take you out of shooter mode till you deal with it. Just that when you accept the box it will be opened for you as soon as it hits your inventory. If your inventory is full the box will probably still end up in your overflow.

    EDIT: The word "Currently" when talking about multichoice mark boxes makes me nervious that they are going to auto-open it for you when you get it and force you to pick a reward or you will not be able to anything else.

    I really don't want those to decide to pick a mark type for me if I don't pick one.

    There are still numerous problems with the doff UI. Please see the following thread:

    There are still numerous problems with cluster assignments. In particular, certain assignments from the chain "Ghosts of the Jem'Hadar" are no longer available. Also missing are marauding assignments that used to appear in exploration clusters. Other assignments may be missing as well. Please see the following thread:

    I also recommend that you read the following post, in which I explain how I think cluster assignments should work.

    They only fixed it for *Admiral* rank pips. Females still clip when you have anything under the admiral rank on Odyssey long jacket. Males are fine for all ranks.

    That is probably exactly what the change is for. Players could save up unopened boxes and open the open them on Bonus Weekends. This inflated player's mark earnings. It's a ploy to get players to actually play on the bonus weekends, rather then stock up and log in once on the weekend to get the marks bonus

    Hoping that the mark box change makes it so the fleet mark consultant works with the mark box.

    Nice to see romulan boff doff missions being fixed.

    Hope to see [run] modifiers exist on ground weapons sometime soon.

    Hope that Cryptic adds a security officer and a romulan lore mission to New Romulus Command.

    And what happens to boxes already present in ones inventory/bank? Do they get auto-opened the first time they log on after the patch?

    Actually it was complained about when the mark boxes went live because it causes extra clicking to open them and they take up inventory space. Before that your marks would go straight into your asset tab, even when you had a choice of marks. I'm hoping they eventually do the same to choice of mark boxes thus making it the way it was originally. I do a single run in the Dyson Sphere Undine space battlezone and in the end I have about 5 or 6 boxes I have to double click. They all award Undine marks so with this update it means I have no more clicking when going there.

    I can understand some are crying "but, but, i won't have boxes to open during bonus mark event". Big deal. You want extra marks during the event? Then get out there and earn them. With people stockpiling boxes to open for such events, it means there are less players actually doing stuff during the event to get marks, and your options in the pve queues are few.

    Thanks to the devs for this. :)

    I'm curious how exactly that auto opening will work in regards to already stocked boxes, full inventories, ...

    And that 'currently' on multiple choice mark boxes is indeed very worrying. Often I have no idea what marks I'll end up taking from those boxes. Being forced to choose when receiving them would be very unfortunate.

    Funny thing is it could turn people from playing all the time between weekend events. If you wanted to maximise earnings, you could still play anytime with the boxes, now you're limited to the events.


    EDIT: Oh, and I'm very curious about the offing completion fix. Does it mean assignements actually complete now and don't all get stuck (one of my alts was at 13 stuck assignements last time I checked, all dozens of hours in the negative)? Does it change anything to the annoyingly long one-by-one completing of assignements (at least when they're not stuck)?

    I fear I'll have to check all that on Holodeck tomorrow, no time right now.

    Does this mark box change at least fix the broken fleet mark consultants. Its TRIBBLE us over on saving for bonus events, could at least give us that little side benefit to ease my rage.

    I think it means it's going back to the old system where there were *no* mark boxes at all. Once a mission was complete the marks would go straight to your asset tab in your inventory without ever going into your inventory. I wish they never added them as mark boxes for everything and kept it as mark choice boxes you get for special events like turning in winter epohhs or risian birds for a choice of marks box.

    I am curious though. Will we still get a box we need to open for choice of marks for everything, or will it pertain only to special event boxes such as I described? Am I still gonna have to open a bloody box every time I do Azure Nebula Rescue or Crystalline Catastrophe? Those events, among others, give a choice of fleet marks and reputation marks.

    I doubt Cryptic will have the system force your boxes to open. They have a habit of not doing such a drastic thing to players. For example: players who found a way to use costume pieces they are suppose to before the bug was fixed can still wear those outfits exactly as they were as long as they don't modify them. I have never heard of Cryptic forcing a player's character to default to some generic model in order to remove options they weren't intended to have. It would probably break something anyway. So no, I don't think anything is going to happen with your mark boxes. Open them whenever you want. You just won't get any new boxes from some events.

    To force them all to open on log in would require a "fixup" script. Fixup scripts are very resource intensive so the Devs will avoid them at all costs. Imagine the server taking all those requests when everyone logs in... the lag would be unreal.

    Just curious but... why would you even bother to patch the test server with something you are going to release to the live server the following day anyway? Kinda defeats the point of a TEST server now doesn't it?

Can the game simply copy the files over once the version number changes? If so, that might alleviate some strain from the patch server ... not much, but some.

    What is the point of the known issues section of patch notes? Its not comprehensive. I would still like to see some evidence that the loadout issues are on cryptics radar.
