I have several toons with Mk XII reputation gear and one has the Mk XII MACO ground on him with the Mk XII Jem'Hadar and Mk XII Dyson ground on a couple of boff's. Will that gear stay Mk XII and I would have to upgrade it or will it automatically upgrade to MK XIV? I did after all have to pay Lobi crystal to upgrade that Jem'Hadar set. I also have the MK XII Jem'Hadar space set on my Jem'Hadar Dreadnought.
It will probably be such a poorly designed upgrade system that will require you to be level 20 and spend either thousands of dollars or wait years to upgrade your items.
they will most likely indirectly force you to requisition all of your rep gear again due to the cost of creating rep gear being substancially lower than the cost of crafting.
I think a dev has said the upgrade system won't be tied to the crafting system, but we don't know. I'm holding off on buying rep gear now, and already regret my most recent purchases last week.
Personally, I'm pulling for upgrading rep gear being just a "simple" project that requires some marks. Probably dilithium, too, but... hey, since I'm already hoping.
Ya, right now I'm also just saving up rep marks. The main thing I'm worried about is my Jem'Hadar gear since that is mission reward with Lobi upgrade and not from a reputation. I am hoping for a simple Event rep tab upgrade project for just dilithium.
What I could speculate happening is that one of the obtainable items obtainable through a new rep system is an equipment upgrade token. Seeing as we have 5 quality levels (common, uncommon, rare, very rare, ultra rare) it would fit that each level of rep would allow us to run projects to upgrade higher base levels of equipment to MK XIV. Maybe different reps will work for weapons, consoles and ground equipment so it is sort of like a mini crafting rep for upgrades.
From the sound of it, you will be able to upgrade your Rep gear via the crafting system.
This is my assumption. With the new crafting system coming out before X2, they will have to update it to match the new shinys.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.
As i heard from the live interview, Al Rivera said that reputation will stay the same. They wont do anything to it, but they will keep adding new reputations.
It makes no sense for upgrading Reputation items should be part of the Crafting system. The only thing that makes sense for it is to have reputation projects that allow you to upgrade the equipment. So if you want to upgrade your MACO ground set Mk XII to the Mk XIV version, then you need to contribute your MACO equipment to the project as well as some more dilithium and Omega Marks and be an Admiral. The better option is to allow us to trade it in for the Mk XIV version for free when we get to level 60, but we all know how likely that is.
People expecting their gear to automatically upgrade blow my mind. I spent real money on my Nook too, and then shortly thereafter they came out with a better one!
Somehow the idea that I would get a free upgrade never occurred to me.

Dude, you are talking about a real world physical object. We are talking about things that are just software. Like getting a firmware update for you Nook and NOT a new physical one. Don't want to sound rude but you need to be on the same wavelength of the conversation before piping in with something totally off base like this.

I am on base.
You paid money for something. Physical or not doesn't matter. You thought something was worth paying for and you paid it.
It did exactly what it said it would do: it was top tier gear.
They should either Upgrade Rep. gear for free since we put a lot of EC, Marks and EC into them or make Short Rep. Projects to upgrade them. Nothing that takes weeks again or consts tens of thousands of EC or Dilithium. But the Rep. has nothing to do with the Crafting gear so should not be related to that. Because thats just greedy money making and if you get a bad result you get a rare gear or if you are lucky you get a very or ultra rare Rifle.

Now something better has come along.
You are owed nothing.
Epic fail. You are off base because you compared a physical object to a virtual one. Plus I am not saying free upgrade I am saying easy upgrade. Difference is one does have a price tag on it. It is just I should not have to pay out the wazoo just because they bumped up the level cap.
Please get off your soap box and take it somewhere where you are on topic.

I doubt you'll have to pay to get the new items/ play the new content. I'm almost entirely sure you'll be tempted to pay. And some people will be so tempted that they indeed will pay, that's the basis if the F2P model. For the game to stay afloat somebody needs to have poor impulse control, it just doesn't have to be you.
If people are thinking that the new level cap and Mk XIV gear means new, higher Mk Rep Gear, I do not doubt that.
If people think there will be a means on upgrading your existing Rep gear or even other equipment to new Mks, I completely doubt that.
The most recent evidence is what's actually been done with the move to Rep equipment being all Mk XII some time ago. Mk X & XI were removed in favor of only Mk XII. Okay, that's fine. But no projects were available to upgrade your Mk X or XI Rep Gear. I still have some sitting around in the bank that are Mk XI with no chance to upgrade.
Yes, there are examples of Mk XI gear upgradable to Mk XII. But there are only 3: JH Space, Ground Sets and JH Pistol. That's it. Even Breen / Absolute Zero Set has always been stuck at Mk XI. Even Rep equipment were not upgradable.
Finally, the whole point of these major seasons or big updates isn't just to give you more stuff to try out. The real point is to get you to spend. And cheap projects to make your existing gear equal to the later stuff is not conducive to getting you to spend on the newest things.
We've just gone through the performance of having the rep system improved to be built around MkXII, no we're faffing about with MkXIV. Is everything going to have to be fiddled about with all over again?

If it is more expensive then the Mk XII to get the Mk XIV then I would pay the difference kinda like how the Jem'Hadar set did it where you have to turn in the old set and pay something with it to get the higher tier set back. Would be the same end cost as someone who just got to level cap for the first time and started the grind just with the cost of the Mk XII taken up by turning in the Mk XII gear.
Same cost but easier for us veteran players is fair.
They hadn't really told yet how you can upgrade your gear or ships. Only told it won't be tied into the crafting system.
I'm taking a guess some kind of future Rep project or Fleet project.

They really need to add an ability of some kind to upgrade the Breen set to mk XII, and give it a bonus if equipped on a Breen ship. With the recent buff to the Aegis set, the Breen one is now pretty lackluster.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

Meaning, you must have the sets in your inventory, and you must give them up to upgrade (minimizing the cost to upgrade).
And yes, I hope I will be able to upgrade my Jemmy sets... maybe even more than Omega rep gear.
if i understand corectly there will be new reputations with mk xiv. existing xii wil be more or less obsolete.
Still waiting to be able to use forum titles

really this is insane; I don't even use the crafting system right now, why i should be forced to use it later

Just because some folks have never played a MMO before doesn't change that..
