!WE NEED END CONTENT! - post your own ideas to help!

STO is a grate game but has no end content to hold players. over the last year my fleet has progressively lost more and more members to nothing more then boredom.

if you have an idea for end content please add it. do try and keep your posts short and to the point.

i recently posted this in the dev section:

i have to say i am most concerned with the crushing lack of endgame content. for a game that levels as quickly as STO, it has none of the dynamic endgame content of say DC Online. we need this, because STO is bleeding players hard, if my own fleet is any indication.

Short-Term
-Unlockables! give us things to unlock: ships/costumes/skins/uniforms. even if they cost hundreds of Emblems or require several already achieved goals [ambassador/member of section 31/etc.]. special unlocks will keep people coming back to see what else they can achieve.
-replay missions improved. some of the replay equipment has been fantastic. but not all. some has left some of us just wondering why we would want it.
-Achievements. [not sure if this would fall into a Mid-Term goal or a Short-Term] again, don't mean to keep using DCO's example but they have a grate idea. give skill points for getting achievement points. DCO lets you keep level your skills by using achievement points after you reach cap. it is a set number of achievement points = 1 skill up, but it gives continuing end content to cap'ed players.
-Enemy Signal Contacts and Empire Defences. nothing more then a bit of randomization needs to be done to these maps. they are all the same with the exact same spawns in the same places. just mix them up a bit. if i'm a klingon, i will see that same map 50 times. just once would i love it to be layed out differently.

Mid-Term
-STF's. i'm sure everyone has mentioned it too. we need lots more of these.
-Disputed Territory. a single aria control map would be fun, give each faction [current/future/NPC] key systems to control and win. give players more then one way to win systems over. fight it out with the other factions or use diplomacy to sway a system to your political view. this would give feds an even footing with the klingon's [klingon's fight harder, fed's can diplomacy to make up the difference]
-Enemy Signal Contacts. we already have a system for random enemy attacks in sector space, but doing more with it would be nice. give end content players reasons to help out in these fights. make the ESC's have a grater meaning to the game as a whole. rescues/holding actions/assist/assault missions are all in the base content and could be expanded to mean something grater in the ESC's done in sector space.
-Unique Gear. i would love to see ships mounting odd-ball items. things you don't expect to see or run into. limited invulnerability shields, capture webs, short warp jump systems, odd weapons and deflector style beams that have strange effects on ships. make them extremely expensive or hard to get items [emblems/achievements]. but it will mix up things in PvP and also give end content users a reason to put time into building their own custom ship builds.

Long-Term

-Klingons. finish the klingons. they are the other half of the story regarding the war. they also would be a good jumping off point for more content with the Iconions.
-Random Rare Spawns. every so often have a rare enemy spawn in sector space encounters. give these mobs grate item drops and their defeat a barring on the game as a whole. [oops the borg fleet made it to earth, supplies are limited for the next 24 hours while earth rebuilds after the fight].

thank you for your time, and i can't wait to see what new content you guys at the dev teams come up with next!

    Lets all make foundry missions.

That way cryptic will never have to create their own missions anymore ^o^

    Best End game idea:

Upon reaching VA you get to see a big Ending screen with generic.

Then you see your char retired, he is very old and wears a diaper. He says "TRIBBLE".

Then the game goes back to main menu.

Raider missions: works for all, klingons do the raiding Federation tries to defend said raid.

Klingons are suposed to be raiding the Federation, so I think we need more raider missions for Klingon side into both Federation and Romulan territories, then the Federation and Romulan sides can have mission to stop the raiders, kinda like pi canis sorties only more and better raids, on shipyards, starbases, outposts, and colonies. Destroy or disable ships, beam cargo abord, beam down to base or planet, steal cargo get out, destroy shipyards, raid freighters and kill escorts.

In star trek there are several episodes when Klingons speak of there glorious raiding missions against the federation, i do realize this is the future but is it not logical they attempt such missions again.

My solution is for them to run weekly episodes ... each week.

Some of the stuff could be long, continuious story arcs like the FEs are. But then mix in filler (like the Deferi story had filler "missions") that are quick and easy and somewhat shallow. It won't be that big a deal if stuff comes out every single week.

I do like this idea, possibly a dedicated mission builder or 3 to bang out weekly's. just one new thing a week would keep people coming back for more all the time. and like you say, they don't all have to be "end of the world" kinda stuff, some of them could be fluffy fun things with no major ramifications.

One thing i would like to see also is a DC Online style achievement system i mentioned in my first post. "X" number of achievement points equalling "Y" number of skill points, past level cap. that alone would, over night, give everyone at top level a reason to hunt down every hidden achievement for the next 6 months.

Fair enough. Fact is, Cryptic is now hiring so that they might end the content drought. They have been under staffed for quite some time. This is what has led to the lack of content. Patience is required to see the matter through to the far end of the probability curve.

Subscribers have two choices. Continue to subscribe and play the game, holding out for the golden age.

Or quit, and do something else with their 15 bucks a month. That's really the limit of what any of us can do.

    HERE HERE

Besides the sale just made them keep there mouths shut somewhat. It did not stop them from doing some content work. perhaps they are all on august vacation. so maybe the month subscribers should go on a vacation. no pay until november. that way plenty of time goes by with what 3 new content areas come out. that should hold us over until hmmm lets see nov 4th come back download all the patches for the game about 2 hours, then hmmm oh yes once in game try and find out what to do yeah and then finally the missions do them in about a day. all of them

oh well back to square one

not trying to diss you or anything but you realize just because they are hiring does not change anything around. you are still looking at 3 to 4 months time of a story or content to be hashed out. hiring means nothing. Cryptic does not have a good or decent turn around time for game development and content progression. They rely on patch content and think that the content they give us in peice meal will last more then a week to do. They dont realize we are smart and figure attributes of there weak content in a matter of minutes to 1 hour.

my thought is the fact they have weak writers who might start good on a story but from the middle to the end just fizzle out. some of them need to look at star trek series again for inspiration.

perhaps if they gave an incentive for players who write strong content from that foundry gimmick. like if you do a good story, not mission but story then you can earn points to play STO for free or reduce your subscription fee.

i still strongly believe putting together a unified front and a list of suggested improvements with a wide base of player support would go a long long way to gabbing the dev's attention as to what the game desperately needs.

or we end up with what we got back at the beginning of season 3 with "hey look we spent months rebuilding a level 1 mission none of you card about...but now you can have a mobile bank".

As a level 50, I think that we should be able to assign the rank of stations on our ships. That way, if I wanted to rock my level 1 ship, I could do it with my higher ranked officers. I think that it could be something like adding the option for 3 universal Lt. Commander stations.

forget that, it would spread pieces of an old necrotic thread around the place! try something like, i dunno a flamethrower. burn it out and dont stop until its ashes, then jump up and down on those ashes until they no longer exist..

thats the same sort of message you would get when the thread gets closed, anything after the fact on a thread more then 30 days old is considered a form of spamming. start a new one up to continue the discussion. and im getting just as tired seeing these newbie posters digging up old threads and seeing them move around again, but thats the mods call as to how they handle it.

Then they need to allow new accounts to start threads from the get-go.

Most forums that I have been a member of either frowns on starting new topics without searching for other threads first (regardless of age), or prohibitions against thread necromancy range from 90 to 120 days (rather than 30). The 30 day necro rule is a bit silly in my opinion, and a waste of bandwidth.

But their boards, their rules. However, they need to let the greenhorns start new threads rather than having to wait for a period. That would cut out some of the problem.

You know what's weird? I come from a world where reposting old discussions as new topics when there was a perfectly viable already created topic is considered a form of spamming.

All I ever really got out of the "kill it with fire" nonsense that gets posted when so-called "necro" threads get managed is that the overall goal is to kill and eradicate the very idea of discussion.

Which overall is, imo, a very stupid thing for a forum to do.

so pushing some buttons to restart the discussion on another thread is too much work? its their house rules, its not for any of us to discuss how they run their business. im just a little frustrated as to how new posters manage to dig up old threads everytime and then all the spammers jump on the train, i guess it comes with the territory of being a former mod myself years ago. it just seems to happen an inordinate amount of time. its more a whine and cheese moment as i never suggested anything after the complaint.

I didn't say that. I said that it's just as much a definition of spamming as the one you gave.
its not for any of us to discuss how they run their business.

Uh, these forums are rife with people discussing how Cryptic runs its business. I think you meant to say something different there. Since everything from "Cryptic please add X" to "Cryptic how could you Do Y?" threads discuss how they run their business.
im just a little frustrated as to how new posters manage to dig up old threads

That's their own counterproductive system at work. New F2P players can't START new threads. Even when the mods persist in advising people to START new threads. Functionally, all new F2P players can do is post in already created threads.

If we had more discussion on this, that might be more readily seen as an extremely counter productive and ridiculously contradictory situation they've created.

Or not. I mean I know I've pointed it out multiple times to both mods and cryptic employees who can actually change that (Brandon, Stormshade). And nothing happened.

WHOA!!! It's a 7 YEAR old necro thread!!! How did they find this, I meant seriously do new players just brainlessly dig for any random thread or is there more to it than that?

On the other point, we haven't had a player make a thread with this kind of topic for a while, or at least not one that doesn't fall between the gaps and into the corner. Be a bit sad to simply kill it wouldn't it? Although it would be funny to see this necroed thread suddenly burst into flames after all these years...

I think sometimes it's rather funny finding these necro threads popping up every now and then, mainly due to the entertainment of people's replies. I'm neutral in this case to bring a rule not to restart posts older than 30 days.

In response to the topic, it's simple: needs more immersion and bacon. People like both
