The only good thing I can think of was the special Romulan Plasma weapons that were different from the standard designs. They just weren't quite as available though.
But...but....but.....
They are still available. From the same vendor in New Romulus command.....like I said in that post up there ^ see?
Is this thing on? *testing 1 2........testing 1 2*
Not sure this is improvement. As someone who loved the star clusters i can see the argument for axing them. But weakening the dilithium market in favor of some untested new crafting system is risky. There is a lot of good evidence suggesting the slow extinction of EC, and with less incoming dilithium in the game and and less to use it for it might be heading for the same fate.
"Risk is part of the game if you wanna sit in that chair."
Actually i just wanted to use it as an index of available stuff to search for on the exchange, tons of consoles i don't know they're funny names by heart.
Hah, now that's an unexpected consequence, D-Store used as an index for the names of items. Try searching your crafting list instead, the items should be named there, too.
Just dont buy dilithium equipment. Its expensive and worst than almost everything else. One of the reasons i think it was removed was because only a bunch of people used it. Unless you want shuttle equipment, that can be more tricky, but still. Even the exchange is far better option, well, not far better, just much much better.
seriously.
Fleet, Rep and now, R&D gear are all VASTLY superior.
32k Dilithium is what in Zen? 215? Let's pretend you trade it in for 2 master keys. That'll net you enough to buy pretty much any Mk XII weapon you want in a variety better than the Dil Store was selling.
The Dilithium Store was NOT good value. You're better off just using the weapons you get from the reputation system.
Hmm lol, i was thinking more on farming contraband... :P, sorry, as you can see there is another way to get fast EC without using zen and saving your dilithium. 3 or 4 kdf toons, you get about 2 million a day farming contraband (more if you have more kdf alts).
Dilithium store only sold Mk XI junk at exhorbitant prices. It was a newbie trap. Be glad its gone. You are losing nothing except the opportunity to be really realy stupid.
You can get much better gear from rep stores or fleet stores for about the same Dilithium expense. If you dont have the rep points, you can buy better gear from the Exchange for Energy Credits. You can also craft the items, if you want to, but no its not the only option or even anywhere near the best option.
Cant believe how many people cry about this. Dil store was a rip.
The general exchange can just as big a rip-off when it comes to a lot of purple quality items.
The dilithium store gear wasn't that bad. It was certainly better than many of the mission rewards and loot drops in the game. It's perfectly serviceable equipment for endgame, and an alternative for those who disliked the rep store stuff for whatever reason, and didn't want to rely on luck for purple drops or pay scalper's prices on the general exchange.
In my time playing the game, and beating around the digital galaxy, I've seen plenty of folks at the dil store terminals on some of the hubs. If people were buying, that would also qualify the store as a dil sink, even in a small way. The people who play the dil exchange might argue that more ways to get rid of extra dil is a good thing, no matter how seemingly insignificant.
There is also the matter of the unique Romulan plasma small arms, which are nice. Even if they are "just" Mark Elevens.
I usually do pretty good at earning both EC and dilithium. So, to keep from blowing all of one or the other, I used to split the difference between the exchange and dil store when equipping my bridge officers. I tend to end up with a good number of Boffs per character, and the rep store items didn't always fit my "vision" for a given character's crew. And I'm sure as hell not gonna attempt to grind out multiple sets for each of my bridge officers or "reserve" ships.
So, it's not a "newbie trap", as you put. Even an experienced player like myself found a good use for it. And I'm far from stupid, thank you very much.
I'm not keen on the dil store going the way of the Dodo, since nothing's wrong with having more alternatives for folks who want it. But sadly, it's another casualty of our "wonderful" new crafting system. And any "feedback" regarding it's loss is a lost cause as far as the developers are concerned.
Hah, now that's an unexpected consequence, D-Store used as an index for the names of items. Try searching your crafting list instead, the items should be named there, too.
I hope so... It was also the only reason why I used the D-Store as well.

Its not a trap, yeah, but someone who played for more than a couple of months will realize that the equipment he can buy in a dilithium store is far from being the same quality than fleet gear , reputation gear and things you can find in the exchange. Dilithium is a really important currency, and throwing away in the dilithium store is, at least.. a big mistake. Again, the gear you will find in the exchange will be far superior, or the gear in the rep system, or the gear in your fleet. Maybe you fill find eventually something that you could only adquire in the dilitium store (i cant imagine what, anyways) but if what you want are good items, you will em in rep, exchange and fleet, nowhere else.
So, it's not a "newbie trap", as you put. Even an experienced player like myself found a good use for it. And I'm far from stupid, thank you very much.
Yeah, I didn't use it often, but every now and then I'd use it to get a specific piece of gear that wasn't easily obtained any other way.
Hmm, I clearly need to change my approach to some things. I like blue phasers, so I bought a few from the D store, and had planned to do the same for my Kumari when that character collected enough dilithium. It doesn't appear that I can craft them, and it also looks as if the new crafting system is going to take quite a while to level even if I could.
Is access to a fleet store just assumed? I haven't joined a fleet, because I'm not inclined to accept random invites, and I haven't really done any group play apart from red alerts.
And clearly I've been going about farming EC all wrong, since I've saved only about 15 mil in a couple of months. (Figured someday I'd buy a D'kora for my Ferengi...someday not soon.) I thought that was going pretty well, but it sounds like people earn EC immensely faster than that.
I was leveling my Rom Tac captain and was equipping all Romulan Rare Plasma weapons from the DIl vendors. I wanted to buy level appropriate updates such as MK VIII Piercing Plasma Rifle which to my knowledge never drops anywhere and if it does folks aren't selling them. It doesn't appear you can craft this weapon either. I used the the Dil stores. I am disappointed
Just a thought. But at low levels the price for a blue set of weapons and gear was about 2k dil and you were set till level 10. After that is started to geometrically rise so that end game it was not as good a value. . . Except the costs on the exchange go up faster than I can sell keys to buy something. The dil store had uses.
Now with it gone I think the exchange will start asking 50mil for mk II green phasers.

Agreed - sometimes - very rarely- dil store had an item that I found dilithium pricing easier to stomach than EC pricing on the exchange. (Mk XI Blue Field Gens, I'm looking at you.) Of course, I often crafted those items instead, for even less dilithium.
For low level characters though, the old crafting system was essentially free until Captain rank - so patience was the only barrier between a player and good gear.
That said, this is something that the NEW crafting system actually excels at. MK II or IV blue or purple gear is easy to craft, and would be for even a new(ish) player.
I wasn't using the dilithium store for the most part - most of the gear was unimpressive for the price. Will I miss it? Not really. That said, a price reduction could have been done - instead of a wholesale removal. Not sure why it wasn't. The dilithium store wasn't even the worst "deal" in game - that dumb console on K7 is still there, and new players see the interact point glowing and say "hey, what's this?".
Unless a guaranteed Mk XI Blue Field Gen at less than 7K would put people off gambling for something better in crafting?
Lol ... You can get Mk II Very Rare Antiproton Weapons (Beam Arrays, Dual Heavy Cannons etc.) For less than 5K EC each, up to around 50K EC if you want one with [Acc] from the exchange ...
I outfitted my brand new Fed Toon with a full set of Purple gear, including a Full Antiproton Build on their Miranda for less than 150K EC total (just for s***s and giggles) That includes Def's, Warp Core, Imp. Engine, Shields and Tac/Eng/Sci Consoles ...
And then you have XI Purple weapons and gear free with mission Replay's ...
So with the exception of a few weapon variations ... WTF do you need a Dil store for?
Obviously that might not help new players, but then a new players isn't gonna' have any Dil either, so what are we talking about here?
Now with it gone I think the exchange will start asking 50mil for mk II green phasers.
Alright, low-level gear actually is a supply problem. End-game players dont get them as loot drops, and it only takes a few days to get max level, so the only people who are selling are other low-level toons.
That's why prices on low-level gear are high. There isnt a constant supply chasing lowest sale price.

One of the arguments to get rid of leveling
Well, peeps are crafting more of it now than ever before, so maybe it will come down somewhat.
I still think this is stupid, even though the points here are pretty much correct.
They've denied people access to an alternate way to get purple consoles and weapons.
Considering the prices on EC... its just.. yeah.
Purp Crafting materials cost a fortune and yeah you can use the dil and zen exchange and then get keys and then sell them but honestly thats just a half arsed way of doing it.
Also im not someone who just likes to join a fleet for the gear or what so im careful about it. which means im not always in a fleet.
Further more, fleet gear is better than dil store gear obviously but that doesnt mean they should of just offed it because you can craft it or fleet gear is better. even if you were to buy equipment and weapons from the dil store it would still be only a temporary thing and for people who play for more than a few hours a day 22k dil is nothing. so its really not that expensive.
its just a really stupid move imo.
and now, due to demand MKXI consoles and weapons prices will sore on the exchange due to demand and yeah you can craft them so the price could come down but that would only be because the price of purp materials is also going to be in the mil's for a very long time.
Sad to say, the romulan dilithium equipment vendor that was on New Romulus is also gone with the wind. And for those who say "it sucked anyway" & "you don't need to buy that stuff because you can get it on the exchange", well obviously people did go there to buy certain items and taking it away is just limiting the individual's choice.
As for the quality of the items, some were pretty decent and their equivalents (if you can find them), are quite ridiculously priced on the exchange as of now (as are those lockbox keys, that are totally off the charts, 2m and up for one & that doesn't even guarantee you'll get anything even close to worth that kind of spending...can't even count how many I've discarded because they were taking up way too much space in my inventory/bank)

............ took the best ground weapon out of the game....................................
I use the Exchange to get what I need and I find when the price goes low in the low K's I jump on it. I was looking for another ground weapon mark 12 purple it was 10K earlier this week so I had grab enough of them for all my toons and their crew.
Now today I do a another search and find it has gone to 100K to 1M. Plus like only 2 available now. Like they're being pulled off the Exchange. If they got rid of the Exchange altogether and pushed you to use R&D-Crafting it would be a different STO to me. I left online game that was only about resources crafting which takes much longer than STO version of it. Looks like R&D-Crafting is here to stay also.. I can't even use my DOF to do task any more! I do miss the older system it was easier to figure out.
Now every loot/prize I am seeing is either for the R&D-Crafting or those Xindi box. Rare to get Rare or Very Rare Mark 12 Purple. Some of the PVE I got two Mark 12 Purple Space Weapons on Fleet Runs but again pushing hard to get even those. I haven't seen them again after the R&D-Crafting implementation though.

Check tomorrows patch notes, they're being removed from New Romulus Command and Dyson Sphere Joint Command.
So they're still available... till next patch.
