Two hours to go until maintenance is finished and I can finish off that mission on Nimbus III. I was going the 'Blind Men Tell All Tales' mission, and I was just about to install a replicator.

The other announcement we never got was the one detailing the schedule for the end of the Summer Event. We had a very detailed one for the end of the Winter Event that specified when the event was shut down, that you had until the end of the month to turn in items and spend stuff in the Event 'Store', etc. Nothing this time. I assume that the circus is pulling down the tents and leaving town completely all at once.

Too many things scheduled for the same day and in a very rushed and late manner. Almost like politicians announcing something after 5PM just before the Weekend to avoid the prime news cycle.

Normally one would think they were trying to jack up sales for the end of the fiscal quarter, but that was last month. Must want to get this all out for the upcoming conventions

17/7 it was very clear in the launcher news, the site news, the blogs, and well, i dont know where else.

But as always, we dont know if we are going to be able to trade eggs for birds, or birds for marks after the event is over, since as always crytpic never give their customers a clue about this. It is the cryptic's way. We all must assume that we wont, or not? who knows. Its always a "we need to wait to see what happens" situations because cryptic NEVER tells us what is happening. Its the same story over and over again. Fortunately , some of us are already used to this, thats one of the reasons we never charge ZEN or give cryptic any sort of monetary "contribution (contribution to what exactly lol)".

Sucks this is taking up the last three hours of the Risa event. There goes my ability to turn in my last days worth of birds for marks.

You took the words out of my mouth. I thought the cutoff time was 1 pm (though no time zone mentioned, so *which* 1 pm would it have been?) ... apparently not.

Last year, the bird-related stuff on Risa was extended, and I only found out much too late (didn't know to check STO website for non-globally-announced changes in end time of Summer Event).

An overhead projector with increased amounts of transparencies would be quite useful in the future.

Any word yet on whether the ornithologist on Risa will still be available for the rest of the year?
I understand that you will not get new missions to get new bird eggs till the next summer event,
but some of my toons have over 70 eggs that still need to get hatched and raised.
[The 24 hour gate on those assignments is really quite limiting. Perhaps you could reduce that time gate in the future?]

    Thanks :)

Getting rid of Memory Alpha is awful. One of the only places with sidequests. Should have been a model for what they were aiming for with other maps, instead they cut it for no reason?

I've got used to the DOFF and exploration changes and just accept them as a fact of life. But I was still holding out some hope that they wouldn't be stupid enough to cut this as well.

Apart from the this and the lack of any new content. I'm pretty happy with this update.

    One thing I don't understand.

Why did they close Memory Alpha?

Even if the crafting system moved to a DOFF system, the map was still a destination for missions as well as a place to visit that was different from other locations in the game. As well, it could easily have served as a tutorial area for people to learn the new system. Just eliminating it would seem to offer no advantage to the game and costs a place for people to visit.

If anything, Memory Alpha could have been revamped into a historical museum detailing the events prior to where the Path historical missions begin, or simply a science station offering services not found at other areas in the sector.

Just seems a waste of a good map to close it when the closing offers no benefits and costs the game another place to visit.

Yeah, that puzzles me too. There's no need to completely junk that map, especially with diplomacy missions on it. Are they moving those missions to another map, or just forgetting them all together?

Really, I'd like to see more diplomacy missions added to the game.

So you get to use the new UI to do it.

70 eggs??? dude, what the hell... you spent 24 hours a day in Risa grinding for eggs and favors to buy eggs?? lol. Ow, some of you really dont have anything else to do on summer lol... some of us have well, 5-10 eggs per toon stacked, but 70??? thats insane. I dont think they will "extend" the event just because some of you are obsessed with "eggs" lol. :P

    Those aren't eggs.

    They're embryonic mark boxes.

I hope "NOT". since many of us "Played by the rules" and only collected enough eggs for the season, if they allowed this it would distort marks to an unfair level (potentially 7000 marks) by doffing for 2.5 months.

Either still allow collection (not to occur), or wait until next season. If they DO allow this, it will be unfair to most players.

I would have to +1 this, i would like for Cryptic to make these boxes stack, as well as for there to be a en masse conversion for marks.

Mildly off-topic for thread, but +1 to this...have 10,000 each Dyson/Omega marks, and an inventory (max slots) half-full of boxes after a long stretch of Battlezone.

I suspect that the unique nature of each box (each one can contain a different number of marks) would prevent this.

Now, maybe they could make the daily bonus ones stack, since those are always (AFAIK) 55 marks.

How? I got eggs randomly. One character ended the season with 0 eggs. Another had over 15 eggs stashed away, and they both did the hunt about the same number of times. I was still getting 2 eggs per run randomly this week.

True...or the simpler thing might be to revert to the way it was before they started boxing stuff and just gave the marks on completion. The more pressing matter, though, is the mass conversion, honestly.

better to open those mark boxes as you get them, you can't really stockpile them until a marks event precisely BECAUSE they don't stack

i suspect this is partially why they aren't stackable to begin with, to prevent exploitation

otherwise we'd all just build up a few stacks of a hundred boxes from each reputation, including the daily bonuses, and just open them for the marks event

"Played by the rules"? What the hell does that mean? You can't cheat at collecting eggs.

More diplomacy would be very nice but I think there are much better ways to going about supporting non-combat missions than maintaining nearly-empty hubs as a trophy for veteran players (such as an exploration revamp with diplomacy worked heavily into it.)

Indeed, i probably have 300 implants and 10k marks across my account from the dyson battlezone (guess how much of my 8-10 a day gets spent there :D)

I spoke with Smirk last night in game and asked him about the availability of the animal vendors after patch. He said "the vendors will be there, but not the DOFF missions". I take this to mean we will be able to trade in for marks and pending missions that will finish or any animals we already possess, but cannot advance any of them via the DOFF system.

Hope that clears up any muddy water about your Risa animals. Only a a little bit and you can find out for sure.

Well, good info. Thank you. I have to say though, that's rather a foolish choice.

Without a source of new tags or eggs, the doff missions aren't unbalancing or unfair in the least. Yes, a very few individuals will have obsessively collected them to turn them in, but then there will always be a very few individuals who will obsessively do or collect something. That's nothing out of the ordinary.

So essentially, the egg and monkey train will come to an abrupt halt with the current ones finishing, rather than gracefully chugging to a stop naturally as people run out of eggs and tags. A shame.

Bah! I don't see the harm in finishing up whatever eggs and hatchlings we have at the end of the event. Heck, minutes before maintenance, I picked up another 3 or 4 eggs.

Then, again a total fail from cryptic. I had (same for a lot of people) several eggs on all my toons waiting to hatch. They didnt change the cooldown of doff mission to 20 hours, they are not even going to let us to finish hatching our eggs for a while?? seriously.. so it doesnt matter if we are really lucky and we get more than 1 egg every day in the horga hunt event, since we are not going to be able to stack em for future uses. What a stupid premise if you think on it. Good job again, cryptic zz.
