Also, I say we get rid of the Lobi consortium, and put EVERYTHING on the zen store. Anyone with outstanding Lobi crystals gets some Dil back for every Lobi. I think the Lobi store is the biggest rip off in the history of this game. You literally need to pay money, to pay crystals, to get a one-time ship. However, this won't happen because Cryptic loves money. Who cares about all the fans paying our bills with lockbox purchases.
Some of the items in the Lobi Store make sense to be moved into the C-Store like some of the consumables and the Photonic Tactical Officer, but most of them don't belong. Cryptic has divided their microtransaction items to stuff that makes sense for a player to have (C-Store) and stuff that doesn't make sense for a player to have (Lobi Store). There are no ships or weapons in the Lobi Store that would be available for a Starfleet, Romulan Republic, or KDF Officer to have through normal acquisition methods.
The reason why the Lobi and Lockbox ships will never be in the C-Store is not due to Cryptic loving money, but because CBS said the only way these ships would be added to the game is if they were made rare and the C-Store just doesn't cut it.
I know, but apparently that's the latest contender for "most-beaten horse headed for death" these days. Given how lame it is, I expect it's only a matter of time for it to reach its logical conclusion: That requiring us to log in before handing us all the top rewards for all storylines and reps is evil, "forcing us to play."
Some people's children won't be happy until online gaming has gone entirely Special Olympics. "Thanks for signing up, here's your Omega Rep set."
I actually think we've hit that portion already. I've seen a few posts complaining about how the Risa ship obtaining is "evil" and "soul crushing". For ten minutes of flying around with a rocket pack.
"Siri, did I have fun playing Star Trek Online...?"
"Yes, you did."
"Siri..."
"One moment please, I'm installing the Hal automatic update from Cyberdyne Systems."
"Oh, okay..."
This is evil, "forcing" people to hire stand-ins.
They should have a Vulcan or other telepathically-inclined race scan the planet, and mail out all rep rewards to anyone who has ever thought they might try the game.

And they actually made the grind far too easy for alts instead of costing 1000 pearls * number of alts, it is now 1000 pearls + 40 pearls * (number of alts - 1). So instead of costing me 3000 pearls per ship, it now costs me 1080 pearls per ship.

It's funny because there's a potentially solid compromise for this:
Create a marks exchange modeled on the dilithium exchange. Trade any rep marks for fleet marks. Trade fleet marks for any rep marks. Let players set the exchange rate.
If nobody wants to play Nukara? Nukara gets a higher exchange rate.
Every Nukara reward means SOMEBODY is playing Nukara content.
That won't satisfy the "too many currencies" people, mind you. But it's probably the reasonable solution.
Nukara content is too expensive at market value? Fine. YOU play that content.
Nukara content doesn't award enough marks -> dilithium? Fine. Sell your Nukara marks. Buy Omega Marks on the cheap with what you get. Use Omega to get dilithium.

But that's not really a compromise for PWE or Cryptic. I'm still convinced that (for good, bad, or otherwise) the whole Marks thing is intended as a way to steer people toward certain content, as desired and dictated by PWE/Cryptic.
The entire "compromise" is, first, in defiance of PWE/Crypti's apparent goal of being able to herd players around for their own purposes. And secondly, the compromise is somewhat redundant- PWE/Cryptic have already handed us a way out with the Winter and Summer festivals. Hell, I've got 10 characters, most of them have at least 1 rep at Tier 5, and at least two have 4 of 5 at Tier 5- and aside from Dyson, most of them haven't set foot in the content for the reps they've got done.
Not really seeing anything in this whole "need more options" thing but raging entitlement. -shrug-

It's the depth of that steering that and the perspective on that...which appears to keep coming up. It comes up in all sorts of discussions...usually those where somebody feels they're being punished for not doing something rather than somebody being rewarded for doing something.
So some folks see the Rep/Content as something they're forced to do to get certain rewards.
And some folks see the Rep/Content as something that provides rewards while they play it.
"Ugh, new content? Meh, more stuff I have to play to get stuff?"
"Cool, new content! Nifty, just cause I'm playing it - I'll get new rewards!"
Some folks are just miserable...Cryptic can't fix that.
There's no question about Cryptic steering folks toward new content - they've created new stuff, they want to reward folks for playing it - hoping they enjoy the content and enjoy the rewards. And...that they'll keep playing the game longer because of that...and because they're still playing the game, that they're going to generate revenue for Cryptic in some fashion.
But the number of folks that moan and groan about it as if Cryptic is looking for new ways to torture players...is just a flippin' trip...a flippin' trip, eh?
Cryptic used to have marks which was a currency that used to exist. These marks, could only be used on specific items and in order to earn the marks, you had to do very specific tasks(todays rep system currency another words).
What the OP is trying to say is, (or at least what I got out of it) is if I'm going to sit down to play the game and try to earn some gear, why do I need to play specific content for it? The whole idea of dilithium was to derail this so that you could play whatever content you wished, and depending on what you played and in some cases for how long, you would earn the appropriate dilithium.
What I would like to see is keep the rep systems, but make the 'rep currency' generic so I could place them wherever I see fit. I'm still playing the game, I'm still playing the content, I still have to earn it, all that changes is that I get to play to content I want, or better yet, play with a lot more variety of ques.
The old currencies were not like that.
There were 5 levels of Badges of Exploration and PVP, for each tier there was its own badge, that only bought you gear of that badge. That meant the currency was obsolete (usually by the time you leveled "out" of the tier). It wasn't like reputation marks. It was like having Omega Reputation Marks, but you have Tier 1 Omega Reputation Marks, Tier 2 Omega Reputation Marks, Tier 3 Omega Reputation Marks, Tier 4 Omega Reputation Mark, Tier 5 Omega Reputation Marks, Tier 6 Omega Reputations. And from the Tier 1 Omega Reputation Marks you can only buy Mark II versions of sets, from TIer 2 Omega Reputation Marks only Mark IV versions of sets, from Tier 3 Omega Reputation Marks only Mark VI versions of sets, from Tier 4 Omega Reputation Marks only Mark VIII versions of sets, and from Tier 5 Omega Reputation Marks only Mark X reps, and from Tier 6 Omega Reputation Marks only Mark XII reps. Oh, and the Tier 6 Omega Reputation Marks would be only collected via dailies.
Cryptic removed/avoided all of that and replaced it with Dilithium.

I don't think that's how the special Olympics work.
But it might be how some might want games to work. Until they realize that there is ultimately no point in playing anyway. The only thing to do is look at your ship or character and see how beautiful it looks with all the phat gear. But never do any content, because for what? The fun of it? It doesn't seem anyone does content for fun.

I agree that marks are a way to steer the population to do certain acivities, but that said - there are multiple reputations active in parallel, so how much steering is really going on there?
The real steering happens with the time-limited activities - Events like Summer/Winter Festivals or even the Romulan Anniversary.
In that regard, it might also be better for Cryptic to give up the concept of generic bonus mark events, and make more specific events. They could feasibly even do that more often then they do now, though they probably don't want to do it too often. The events don't just steer the general population to certain content, it also causes people to log back into the game just for specific events. (Maybe the latter is a reason to keep the generic bonus mark event around?)

You are right. That is how School Events work. Here is your participation ribbon for showing up. There will not be a trophy given since keeping score is politically incorrect even though everyone keeps track.

The Badges of Exploration and PVP were separate currencies and they did in fact require you to play specific or limited content regardless of their tiers. Dilithium was a way so that we could have many different ways of earning it, it's not restricted to specific content. The fact that the old marks became obsolete was just one reason they switched to dilithium, but not the only one.
Anyway, the point of my post really was about having the current rep have the same marks. You still need to grind regardless, you still need to gain rep etc. The difference is you can go and play the content or queues that you want to play.
In fact, for me, Task Force Omega Rep marks are obsolete as I have everything I need from that rep. I'd like to go back and jump into a few Omega queues as it has been a while for me to play them, just a change of pace.
Nukara, I haven't even touched, nothing I really want from there but I wouldn't mind playing a few of the queues for a bit.
So at this point I want Dyson gear, but can only play Dyson content. I have no issues with Dyson content and I like doing it, it'd would be really nice if I could play other content so it doesn't make it dull and mixes it up a bit because I don't want to get sick of it either.
Retired. I'm now in search for that perfect space anomaly.
I like the way the rep system currently works. If I want Romulan gear then I need to help the Romulans by playing missions specific to the Romulans to earn their marks.
Why sell prized gear to others when they did not even lift a finger to help your people?
Combining all marks into a single generic mark usable for all rep systems is a rallying cry for all lzay gamers. Soon enough they will probably want to start a new game at level with all the free gear from the missions automatically in their inventory and instant access to all fleet and rep gear.

first i would advise everyone to listen to the priorty one pod cast it answers alot of these questions. and Captain Smirk gives away some good info that lets use have a insight into the future and it is coming soon.

I'm at tier 4 of undine reputation using exclusively marks I've earned from raising risian tiki monkeys. I'm winning the war on the undine without ever stepping off of risa.
