I tried to login three hours later and have been unable ever since. I have put in tickets and still nothing. Please fix the problem and don't tell me it's my internet. And you want people to buy a life time of this garbage. have a nice day.

So have you tried the 'Verify Files' option in the Launcher Option Menu?

I did the same thing the last 8 times this happened after a patch. I did these test again.

    ...

So it does seem like this is not a Network related issue...

The next thing to work on are software incompatibilities on your system... Start eliminating apps running in your hot tray, or are resident loading in your startup batch file. This would be a more likely explanation on why the STO Client is crashing on launch...

Something you could try is see if the STO Client works when booted in Windows Safe Mode. If it does, then that implies that you have a software incompatibility of some kind...

I did turn off all the software I'm running for keyboard, mouse, etc. turned firewall off. turned antivirus off. checked and doubled checked that game client and all ports for game are open. The only new thing with my computer was a windows defender update, but I shut it off and still no joy. Two days prior the game launcher would re-launch and then quite when I exited the game and now it's broke. :(

The thing is, the game works for the vast majority of the players. It is reportedly unstable for macs, but given the lack of 50 pages of rants on here about crashes in windows, it would appear that you are one player with a problem compared to many thousands running trouble free. That strongly suggests the problem is local to your pc, and not the game being "garbage". We might be able to help, but you have to accept that the problem is most likely on your end.

give us all you got -- exact error message, what you have done. Did you look for driver updates (video driver being the usual suspect)? What does your event viewer have to say about the crash? Does crypticerror program launch? How far do you get before a crash, characters list page, or not even that far?

So have you tried running in Windows Safe Mode ?

(If it does crash in Windows Safe Mode, then that implies a corrupt executable, which would require a complete reinstall to correct...)

no not yet.I was checking the events and found these. Maybe you can tell me what this means? I have only had this computer for a month and I have not taken the time to learn this windows 8.1 as I should, but I think you are correct in that this may be on my end. This is also 64bit and I guess that could be the problem as well.

    Looking at it now.
while you wait, try doing a chkdsk scan if you have not.

the events are too generic -- it just tells me what crashed but not WHY. Apparently in these cases you need something called a hang dump, you can look up online how to generate them.

You may need to drop the results on a highly technical site -- there are several -- that has experts who can parse the event and other dump files. Most ask for about 20 pages of logs and dumps but they are usually able to find the issue.

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/webdav_101/archive/2008/09/04/howto-generating-a-hang-dump-with-adplus.aspx

    might help.

Across the board the top several causes seem to be (in no particular order) the usual suspects:

corruption / hard disk failure / hardware failure
    bad driver
    malware
    incompatible third party background programs

While one of your crashes had a DNS error the others seem to be instability not networking. As best as I can tell. I am not an expert at parsing those files... someone else may glean more from them. As suggested, running it in safe mode might show whether its a hardware or disk failure vs junkware. But I personally would just disable everything that you do no need on your PC ... this is always good advice anyway ... I like ccleaner for giving it a "quick once over" on getting that junk out. You can also use ccleaner to check registry for problems. Only your virus scanner and possibly a dumber than usual driver program (like nvidia's always running junk, or your printer, etc) should start automatically. If you have more than 5 or so in your startup list, odds are the rest is junkware.

I did all that more then once. I even did i sistem restore from 7/1 because there were 4 windows updates but that was not the problem. It might be a Windows 8.1 issue or cryptic, i don't know wtf is wrong but i'm done. One thing i for sure, I'm not getting the lifetime sub now due to the great support from cryptic, i'll just cancel my monthly and wait awhile and it will be fixed. Thanks for all the help you guys have been great. 400 day vet signing off.:(

are you running full screen or windowed?

is it crashing on the character select screen? or when you go in game? if it's when you go in game is it one toon or all toons?

IF you can get to the character screen, try reducing the detail levels down to see if that's the issue.

Do you have another card you can swap in?

I am at a loss. That narrows it down to a corrupted install, a bad driver, or a hardware failure. I still suggest submitting your hardware log, event viewer, and the hang dump log to one of the places that troubleshoot those things.

It turned out to be a glitch in Windows 8.1 x64 running x86. Reinstall fixed it.
