Allow Disco Balls on Dance Floor After Summer Event

mke84mke84 Member Posts: 0 Arc User
Good Evening,

As we all know, disco balls are extremely popular party items within the Star Trek Online community and their practical applications are extremely diverse to say the least. We can use them all over the Star Trek Online universe to create an instant party, to get people dancing at the many festivities hosted by STO's many internet radio stations, or even just to pop one out to cheer someone up who's feeling a bit down.

Disco balls have become an item most of us could not do without since they've been introduced. I'm not just speaking for myself, but many others, when I say this simple item has made me log into STO a heck of a lot more than before and to even spend a little more cash than usual. This shows you how valuable this little addition is to the game.

We all love that the disco balls can be used anywhere and everywhere within the Star Trek Online universe, except one place,

Risa's Dancefloor.

It is understandable why it is prohibited from being used during the Risian event as it could be used as a tool to disrupt the hourly dance-off. But why after the summer event has concluded, can we not use the "party amplifier" on the world it was introduced, Risa, on the party dance-floor?

You would think that would be the most appropriate place to use such item in all of the Star Trek Online universe, but it is disabled there. I must ask, why?

There are countless festivities and parties I attend on Risa after the summer event is over, and one of the big complaints I hear is "Why can't we use our party amplifiers on the party dance floor?"

Yes, why can't we? Please kindly consider allowing the use of party amplifiers in the one location in all of the Star Trek Online universe you would 'think'it should be used, the party dance floor.

You already have to make some changes before and after the Risian event, please consider making one little tweak, and allow the party dance floor to be used to party.

    Wow... irony? sarcasm?

The only thing the owner from such a Device from Hell archieves is the sudden urge to kill him, in the most cruel fashion i can imagine.

OK. I'm all for this. Allow the use of disco balls everywhere. But with one condition. They must be targetable by all but the player who used it, and they must drop 500 zen when destroyed. I'm sick and tired of having my character forced into an unwanted and extremely unbefitting dance routine whenever one of these stupid things is activated. Trolls use them in the most widely used areas so.ply to frustrate other players, and only a complete moron could ever possibly think this sudden loss of control does anything other than further aggravate other players.

Sure, you can switch instances and maybe escape from it, and get to an instance that is currently troll free, but doing so in places like ESD forces you back to the transporter pad. This is also aggravating since you then have to make your way all the way back to wherever it was you were, and resume whatever you were doing from scratch. So, if I'm to be subjected to such idiocy, I want to be properly compensated for it. Either allow us to make our characters immune to these ridiculous effects, or allow us to destroy these headache causing, epilepsy inducing globes of utter nonsense, and be damn well rewarded for freeing everyone from their I.Q. dropping power.

one question why would you need to spend cash on them or because of them?
at only 100ec each i could buy a million of the things between all my characters and still have ec to spare and in case you are wondering i have never sold anything i have bought for zen on the ec exchange.

or perhaps you are saying that having these items in the game made you spend cash on somthing else but i cant see that eather, sure they are fun but they are hardly going to make me say now i must run and buy that ship i have always wanted.

i just cant see any way these little items on their own would induce you to spend real money.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

I was suddenly reminded of this.

Seriously though, disco balls don't bother me one bit in STO. Some people get wound way too tightly over trivial stuff like that.

Same here, I have no problems with Disco Balls. I have been hit by them several times while doing bank stuff or checking my ships, and it has never bothered me. I just let my dude or dudette dance really badly on the background while I'm doing other stuff.

So I say let the litte guy have some fun while you are doing some management stuff :)

Why do they bother you so much? I get hit by them pretty often and other then making your character dance, they have no effect on anything. I just do whatever it was i needed to do in that area then I leave.

As far as I can tell, they CAN be used on the dance floor, as I have seen them deployed there.

Unfortunately, they don't FUNCTION there, so you throw them up and...nobody dances. If you are unable to deploy them for some reason, consider your money to have been saved, as nothing would happen.

First off, I really dislike those griefballs. IMO they should be restricted to ball user owned ship interiors only.

BUT! OP has a point. Outside the summerevent the Risa danceplatform makes totally sense to be used with those. At least with the music & lightning effects. The dancing animation of choice should be up to the partying players.

I'm quite happy for them to be enabled on Risa when the event's not on ... under one condition ... they're disabled EVERYWHERE else, they are the most disruptive, obtrusive, annoying, irritating and plain soul destroying things in game and they need to burn in hell, or at leats be relegated to Risa only.

The only conceivable use for Disco Balls would be deployment during a combat situation to make the enemies dance while you shoot them.

I'm personally not bothered by the disco balls. I don't really use them though - I do understand how people can come to think of them as "trolling". Ultimately, they were added by the devs, and the new doff means they're probably not going away. So those that feel trolled, guess they are trolled by the dev team responsible.

I may now use them (not on ESD, but for practical purposes), now that they have a practical use with the new DOFF.

That said, they should work on any dance floor in game (I understand why not during the dance competition).

Risa dancefloor is a good place for the disco balls and party poppers.

I think that those who don't think people should be celebrating on Risa, during the Lohlunat Festival, of all things - are not in the spirit of the event. Either that, or they are RP'ing a certain Tactical/Command officer with a 3 foot titanium rod placed somewhere uncomfortable.

I'm all for player-side switches to turn dancing off for those who hate them - but to argue that Risa ISN'T the place? That would be foolish.

I'm troubled by some of the negative comments I am reading here about the disco balls. The overwhelming majority of people I regularly converse with, and the people I meet at the in-game parties, hold the disco balls in high esteem.

Regardless, the purpose of this thread is not to discuss people's opinions about disco balls as a whole, as I believe this topic has been already discussed ad-nauseum. I simply wanted to urge the developers to make this simple alteration to the game to allow the party balls on the party dance floor AFTER the Risa event. The disco balls are already here and they're not going away. So let's fix this little oversight and make a lot of people happy. That makes sense, doesn't it?

Well i couldnt care less at some point.. but.. if people are allowed to spam others with discoballs it would only be fair if people could disable being affected by them... that would fix something for people who dont want to be affected.
