Music to Trek by.....

khregkhreg Member Posts: 379 Arc User
In the first few days of playing STO, I simply let the in-game music do its thing. After a while, I felt that I wanted to make it feel more "Trek", so I loaded up my player with the Goldsmith and Horner Trek movie scores, left it playing in the background and turned off the in-game music.

After a while I threw more Goldsmith material in there from non-Trek projects, one or two tracks from STIV, and a couple of tracks from TRON: LEGACY for use as combat music.

I have two playlists at the ready at all times, "Battle" and "Exploration" for mood shifts in the game.

Anyone else have their own preferred playing music?

I use the film scores and scores from the DS9 collection, along with a varied selection of epic music tracks.

Yeah the STO "soundtrack" get boring very fast. When I grind marks in adventure/battle-zones I often turn on the MGR:R Vocal Tracks. Nothing gets you more pumped to shoot stuff than RULES OF NATURE!

Or sometimes some of the Sonic songs, some games may be borderline broken garabge but most of them have a good soundtrack (even Sonic06!).

mostly phish, spacehog, various classic rock, and tng movie soundtracks. sometimes i put on has been by the shat when i do the voth battlezone. not sure why, maybe they're just both ridiculous things that are also addictive. it seems to fit my mood about the place.
also i often pick random trek/gate episodes and just have them playing on the tv while i play.

If only you could set the game to use custom tracks for specific events. Sector space travel, ESD/New Romulus Command/Qo'nos, when going into Red Alert, combat, etc. It would be nice to even set it specifically by faction.

I know it would possibly be a nightmare for Cryptic to get permission to use the music from other Star Trek TV shows & movies, but it would be nice if we got the chance to customize it with our own.

When playing my Romulan, I have a youtube playlist of Ron Jones Romulan music mixed with some of Nemiesis's romulan themes playing. Sets the tone very nicely, gets you right in the sneaky mood.

Otherwise, I just have various trek movie songs playing, or the scores to the Transformer movies.

Though recently, I've started listening to Klendathu Drop on repeat for doing STF's and large scale fighting missions.

I drag my "favourites" from my MP3 collection into the play window of Media Player and just let it randomly choose what I listen to whilst gaming. With over 49hours of collected music just in my favourites, I never run out but I am often amused by what happens to come on and when.

I got lucky during the latest "Hearts and Minds" rerun and got some of Ben Hogue's Arcanum Soundtrack (Tarant sewers is really good for that mission) but more often than not I get Avril Lavigne during a Borg STF (sk8er boi is actually not bad to kill Borg to :D ), QOTSA for a simple scanning mission in a cluster or some Spawn Movie Soundtrack (Silverchair & Vitro) for the Tholian Red Alert (now THAT is fun!).

Since my music collection contains no less than 100 different artists (from Jonathan Coulton to Puddle of Mudd, Julia Nunes to Queen, REM to the Zutons, Ben Folds to Within Temptation) I can get some very odd tunes to go with my STO fix du jour.

I did the same. I turned off music within 2 days of STO's launch. It's tiresome and uninspiring. Well that was the case until LoR, there is one Track I like. And they added another with Season 8. But hitting those is a hit in the road compared to the other themes, so like the resto of you, I just listen to the soundtracks.

I usually just leave the music on, since there a few tracks I actually like. The ones I like are the Romulan Battle Themes, The DS9 one, Ambient Romulan 1, and the one that plays when you are in the Staging Area. There's also an exploration theme that I like, but I don't know which one it is.

I use music from Touhou Project a lot, both remixes and the originals. Magus Night and "Now, Until the Moment You Die"just ooze power. That being said, fighting the Borg while listening to Japanese Pop gets......interesting XD

    I have 1 of 3 flavors.

    1. I just put on the entire sound track for ST 1 though 4 and put them on repeat. bout 3.5 hours of music.

    2. I have a selection of theme music from various shows and movies. Delta Force theme, Airwolf, Knight rider. Stuff like that.

    3. Theme songs from recent movies like Transofrmers, Last of the Mohicans. Gladiator, King Arthur and a few others.

Just depends on what I want to listen to.

While I generally listen to the ambient STO music and sounds; at this moment it is Disco Inferno (In honor of my Risan ground doffs) and Soul Makossa (In honor of my aptly named new Risan Liner). And sometimes interspersed between the music, I have the fan film Starship Exter: The Tressaurian Intersection, playing in the background for effect.

It is always nice hitting Exothermic Induction at the moment "Burn baby burn, Disco Inferno!" plays. Or flying into battle at the start of Soul Makossa.

I mostly leave the music on. However, a few times I have a playlist with music from Denny Schneidemesser, Thomas Bergersen and Immediate Music (amongst others).

I mostly listen to comedy off BBC iPlayer whilst playing.

When I exhaust that, the drum and bass classics playlist gets banged on.

I have always been a fan of Star Trek - The Astral Symphony and have listened to that compilation album for years. It's somewhat hard to come by these days. Too bad STO has such a terrible soundtrack that threads like these always pop up. Star Trek (and other Trek video games) always had a great score, just another area where STO is lacking.

not being a person who learns by auditory senses, i switch off quickly when someone likes listening to the sound of their own voice in a room full of people with me in there somewhere, that person being the center of attention and all that jazz, music lasts so long before it looses its appeal as well. i never have responded well to it in the past, beyond my control. so listening to music typically? no, on specific occasions where i feel like it, perhaps, but likely something different, i tried listen to two steps from hell and its very similar to other symphonic metal bands; nightwish, delain, within temptation and a few others. so really i just ended up tuning it out pretty quickly despite not listening to the band tracks before.

so yeah, i tend to keep the music off unless i feel like having some.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

I tend to ignore music when I'm focused on doing something, so I never saw any sense loading up any music player to ignore when it's just as easy to ignore the game's own built-in music.

I honestly play with the music off half the time. Hearing the horns everytime I mapchange while in sector space got old fast for me.

I like to listen to a variety of music, from the Mass Effect soundtrack to classical music. I especially like to listen to Ravel's Bolero when I'm doing mundane tasks like dilth mining. I like to listen to Dvorak's ninth symphony E minor 'from the New World' in the fourth movement at the beginning of a STF or other battle. I also have the TOS soundtrack collection, which is off the hook.
