Warp Speed Towing

Just had an idea, when ever you play a high level character and help a low level character do missions, those low level ships are really slow. so, what if the high level ship could tow the low level ship through sector space to destinations?

This may seem not totally necessary BUT it would be a good mechanic to add for roll playing for one and a time saver for another, not to mention it would be just plane cool.

What do you think?

    I like it. Would be nice to help level of new players and make it easier to show them around the game without moving at a turtle pace

    I think not, it seems from what I know of it takes some work just to set up. and I've never heard of it being done on a ship that still can go to warp, so warp fields could TRIBBLE it up.

    im talking about literally locking on the low level ship with a tractor beam and basicly fly both ships at a speed higher than the low level ship can normally go, just to speed things up and you gotta admit that would be cool.

    it would be another cool thing you could unlock at level 50 just like Quantum Slipstream Drive, even if it was only for cruiser type ships...

    without changing their Structural Integrity Field to counter the stresses. yes. and the power involved it would be limited to about warp 5... if we're going by canon

    you know this a star trek game right? technobabble is more or less required.

    Star Trek is full of technobabble. Without technobabble in STO or using technobabble to explain gameplay in STO, then this game loses its Star Trekness. Why aren't you using technobabble for this game?

    sorry this is a game not real star trek and dont act as real star trek so technobabble went out the door the day this game went live or do yall want to explain how your ship is not gone for ever after its pops or how your captain is not gone for ever after a T-Rex kill you with its friggin lasers on forehead it have fun with that one :)

    yea, i think they are over thinking it, besides, they warp towed ships in the show a few times...

    Technically there was no evidence of them ever towing the runabout at warp... Just that they could break warp with a tractor beam.

    I Entirely agree that it seems unlikely that they would be able to get damaged ships anywhere without warp... Heck I'd even refuse to believe anything else.

    But you will be hard pressed finding a single episode where one ship actually towed another at warp... Or them even mentioning that towing was done at warp.

    Simple. The same method that was used in City of Heroes. Emergency Medical Teleporters that teleport you to a safe area when you are about to be killed. For the ships, it releases a chroniton field that rewinds time for anything within that field.

    STO might not be real Star Trek since real Star Trek is limited to all TV shows and movies before Star Trek 2009 and any future TV shows and movies set in the original universe, but there are a ton of Star Trek fans that love to use technobabble to explain things away. As far as technobabble went out the door when STO went live, then you are mistaken. There is far too much technobabble in the item descriptions.
    The Tipler Cylinder console can actually rewind time! The dense beryllium cylinder core of this module rotates at near light speed, allowing your ship to perform a Temporal Backstep and rewind time approximately 13 seconds.

    Face it. You can't escape technobabble in STO.

    this is not i repeat not City of Heroes.................... and till the Day Tractractor beam act as the did in the show all the technobabble about Structural Integrity Field ...... and stuff means nothing in this game so plz keep talking about stuff that will never happen or means nothing in this game

    when a galaxy class starship puts a Tractractor beam on something smaller than itself that ship is not going to go any where but in sto its a joke

    subsystem targeting joke every ship could do that unless its was commanded by pakled's

    and thats been my point its a game and here we are talking about tractor beams at warp then got to bring in Structural Integrity Field to counter the stresses......... its a game

    and to be frank dont see the Dev doing this idea they got better thing to do and not to say who goes to sector space any more you do every thing in the game from a menu :D

    Towing might be a bit extreme, as an alternative what about slipstream? The lower level player follows the higher level player in their warp slipstream, so can go at the same speed since they are in the same bubble?

    warp speed towing was done without problems in VOY: Scorpion, Part II.

    Instead of towing, why not just have the lead ship extend the warp field around the other ship? This was done to take another ship to warp.
